Canadian Winter (in June)
It was a risky move, but it had to be done. Shostakov was no friend to the royal family and if he was taken into government custody decades of work would be lost. If his comatose body could be grabbed by those who had the same interests, he could possibly be revived and work on the projects could resume. That 'son' of his knew what his father had been doing, but the kid didn't know half as much as his 'father'. No, they needed Shostakov and they had to get him before others did.

The warning was sent from a small internet cafe computer and bounced through two dozen different nodes around the world before it reached its destination in Canada. They had to be warned that the Russians were coming. Hopefully they would respond appropriately to the incursion into their land and during the conflict and chaos Shostakov could be taken out of there.

There were a lot of variables, but it would go as planned. It had to.

"Good. SHIELD has better info resources than we do, report to them, and they'll check your info. I've already turned over the computer trace to them... if, and only if, you cooperate fully with their investigation, I'll consider turning it over to your government as well to help you try and find the leak. Meanwhile, I'll try and smooth things over a little with our politicians, seeing as, you know, we've been invaded."

Yeah, not happy at all. He'd love to clock this guy... but right now this was a disaster, and he's having to swallow his pride and be reasonable.

Well, at least Mason hadn't seen her change like that. He'd already seen her at her worst once. She didn't want him seeing her like that again.

When Alpha had beaten Omega Flight, she'd nearly beaten one of them to death, had lost control. When Mason had been fighting for her honor and his life, she'd very nearly started changing--only Kassi's telepathic intervention had reigned her in. Then she'd nearly...

And now this.

A hybrid of Plodex, Atlantean, and human... who knew what other dark secrets lay inside her.

Somedays, she wonder if she was fit for human company.

Zviad took a step forward.

"No one is disputing that fact. Yes, this was done the wrong way, but in all honesty do you believe your Department H would have willingly released the criminal to our custody?" Zviad wanted to cooperate and he sure as hell didn't agree with his government's actions, but he didn't appreciate the younger man's attitude. If even half of what he'd heard about their superiors was true, then they had little right to lecture the Guard.

Jordan looks at the Dynamo, unruffled.
"With all due respect, sir, if I didn't understand your motivations, I would be turning over all of this to the international court, not offering to help you plug your intelligence leaks.
That said, he was captured because he was operating here. He should have been turned over to you immediately, to avoid international problems. But that wasn't my decision, and there was legal right to hold him... despite my disagreement.
There is no legal justification for invading a sovereign nation and attacking a hospital. None. This should be seen as an act of war...

And I'm going to do everything in my limited power to make sure the Canadian government gives you a free pass, provided your information checks out - because we benefit more from working together now than waving our dicks at each other.

I'm doing this because, first, I understand the frustration with politicking... secondly because as long as we have the tapes on hand, instead of sending them to the U.N. security council, it makes it far, far less likely there will ever be a repeat performance. Third, because I think working together will achieve more results, and finally, because I believe strongly that he should be in someone's custody more than I want to fight over jurisdiction.

So, do you want to argue and let the bureaucrats decide this, or do you want to play ball with me? You'll prefer the results of option B, I guarantee."

Red Guardian held his hand up to silence Zviad. They didn't need to have things escalate again.

"Kiska Illyavich is the name of the Crimson Dynamo pilot who took off with the body," he said. "She has always been loyal until now. I can provide the names of the other pilots of the Federal Dynamos.

"Believe me, I have little love for political bullshit myself. I wouldn't trust bureacrats to change a light bulb." He sees the gesture from Red Guardian. "Apologies."

"No apologies necessary... we have a chance to sort this out between the super-people before the bureaucrats get involved. As long as you guys can see fit to make sure repairs to the hospital are paid for, I think I can smooth this over. Right now, we've all lost a terrorist. Given that they were wearing Russian hardware, I'd prefer SHIELD verify that no one is lying... as soon as they clear you, I'll give you everything in our records on Alexi's operations here in exchange for everything you know on those pilots, and we'll see if we can make progress by sharing... deal?"

Red Guardian nodded. "Shostakov is wanted in Russia as much as he is by your government. The repairs will be made and we have a deal."

"Alright, go talk to SHIELD then. In exchange for your cooperation in making sure there's no more traitors in your number, if we do capture Shostakov as a result of this joint operation - you guys can have him. Holding him here is ore trouble than I want to deal with. I'll apologize to our government when the time comes."
