And now, back to our story, already in progress... (backdated to the original posting date)
In spite of all her efforts, Rachel had come no closer to freeing herself than when she'd started. Three rounds of Mojo's sadistic game had passed in all, and she'd picked Starbridge, David, and Torn Ear once each, trying to give them what respite she could. And each time, they had survived the challenge. As had Sweepzweak.

It was enough to drive a girl mad.

And perhaps the worst thing of all? She'd actually already made up her mind before they'd gotten kidnapped. She might have hemmed and hawed a bit, but when it came down to it, she realized who she wanted as her boyfriend.

As the guys returned to the contest area, she resumed marshaling what little psychic power she could.

C'mon guys... Rachel thought, her mind and heart racing. She'd never forgive herself if anything happened to any of them, even though she knew that this was entirely Mojo's fault.

How in the heck had she ended up with three different guys (four? She really had no clue what was going on with Mojo's number one contender there) all vying for her attention?

Her chair started dropping and she forced herself to close her eyes. She needed to gather up as much mental power as she could...

The only way to do it being teaming up is, of course, because thinking of others and their welfare is consistently what Mojo can't do, and thus always overlooks.

"Ok, all the lasers, robots, everything have a pattern. Some of them are confusing patterns, long ones, but there's still a pattern. I'll keep the killbots off of you..." and look good doing it, of course. "...You guys, figure out the patterns, get through the laser fields. Someone will have to distract Humungo the Super-Slicer - Mojo loves that robot, so just distract it, don't blow it up, or he'll gas the arena... and just one person, cause it will take at least two to get up the pole, across the water trap... which is really full of acid..." he let's the others decide who will do what, just describing the course as quickly and quietly as he can.

"I'm counting on you losers to save the woman I love, so don't let me down."

	"Oh, Rachel will be saved; never doubt it. Torn Ear, you're the quickest on your feet. Distract the Slicer," Starbridge says as they head towards the lasers. Then he starts analyzing the laser patterns as best he can, almost as if they were the paths of a vision branching out, and sharing this information aloud with the others. 	Torn Ear nods, stretching his back. "I can keep it occupied as long as necessary. Good luck, my friends. And you." He smiles, exposing his canines, maybe exposing them a bit more at the scoundrel than necessary. He follows Starbridge's instructions exactly, soon finding himself facing a giant metal beast with blades all over it. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	"Good call," David agreed as he moved in to do what was needed. He could follow through on the other things easily. And honestly he could feel the burn in his muscles from fatigue. 	Torn Ear nimbly danced in and out of the Slicer's reach, taking a handful of superficial wounds to help sell the act. His eyes remained fixed on Rachel, however. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

That's his cue - dodging lasers, he can't actally get to Rachel. Someone else needs to do that - but its the last possible moment - and moments like these, literally, are what he was made for.

Dylan draws a knife and throws it, a one in a million shot tacking the snapped cable to the wall - it won't hold long, but it might buy the others a few more seconds.

And, of course, Mojo will punish him later - but though he is technically a slave to Mojo, Sweepzweak is, and always will be, first and foremost, a slave to drama.

	Torn Ear's heart stops when he sees Rachel fall. Following David, he evades the machine and makes a prodigious leap. He has no time for relief when she stops, only pausing to change his stride to match her swinging. He leaps for her, praying to the elder spirits that he has enough force to break the cable free now to get them both to safety. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	Rachel gasped as she fell, screamed in spite of herself. The knife buys her time, but leaving her heart beating in her chest like a jackhammer. "Any time now, guys..." she whispered as she started to fall. Safe, strong, and fuzzy arms arrested that fall, landing them on the other side of the vat. She realized, suddenly, she was crying.
