All Hope Abandon, Ye Who Enter In!
Between Marlow and Dawn the Defenders had managed to track the shadow demons who had abducted Svalin to the gates of Hades. Countless shades wandered on the shores of the river Acheron. These were the paupers and the friendless, those who did not possess an obolus to pay Charon.

A small boat floated on the dark waters of the river and the cloaked figure of Charon stood in the boat waiting to ferry souls across the river. A skeletal hand clutched a pole and the other was outstretched waiting to receive a fare for crossing.

On the other side of the river stood a large three headed dog and a large two headed dog. Cerebus and Orthus guarded the entrance into Pluto's realm.

Even with a master mage, it could get interesting. If he lives, in time, he'll heal - but he's missing a lot of flesh. If someone didn't know him, he wouldn't be recognizeable, covered in bites, burns, cuts and netherworld gore embedded in the wounds.

For once, Asleif did not bother with a flashy entrance. The summons had been dire sounding enough that she did not waste time with such things. Instead, she simply appeared, perhaps with just a touch of green smoke which quickly dissipated.

She held a hand to her mouth to cover her surprise. And she was--and here mark this for absolute certainty--not misty eyed at all.

She spoke not a word, but went to work at weaving spells right away.

Svalin wanted to thank her sister, but she kept quiet. The last thing Asleif needed was a distraction. Svalin left the bedside and went to the door. She wasn't going to leave, but she didn't want to be in the way.

Aridis joined Svalin at the door. Worry is clear on her face but she says not a thing.

She just watches.

The breathing becomes steadier, less labored. The wounds begin bleeding out the hellstuff infecting them. His own nature makes him hard to affect with magic - but the worst is being dealt with, and at least its easy enough for a mage of her skill to get the things that shouldn't be inside him, like brimstone, hellhound ichor and hound-tooths out - and after an hour, it seems he's stable, anyway.

Svalin slipped a hand in her twin's and held it. She gave it a small squeeze. "He wilt be fine. He hast to be." Her voice was barely above a whisper. She didn't want to disturb Asleif.

After an hour of continuous casting with no stopping, even Asleif's resources and physicality were beginning to tire. She was never as fit as the others or possessed of their stamina, and here, she had taxed herself greatly.

She herself sank to her knees.

Svalin was immediately at her sister's side and put a shoulder under her arm to help her stand. "Sit, sister," Svalin said and guided her to a chair. "We wilt get food and drink for thee."

"And if thou needs sleep," Aridis said slowly knowing that Aslief may need rest.

"Thou wilt have whatever you need."

Asleif was nearly too proud to accept the help up, but she did. Sweat drizzled down her face and her eyelids drooped.

"No... Halbjorn needs me."

She tried to stand up straight, and failed.

Svalin caught her. It was awkward with her large stomach, but she kept her sister from falling. "Sit," she said with a slight edge to her voice. "It wilt do him no good if thou'rt passed out on the floor."

While obviously not healthy, Halbjorn is stable, and no longer infected or bleeding - in time, he'll heal once that point is reached, at least.

"Aye." Aridis moved to provide assistance.

"We can help thee to a chair. At least rest thine feet for a bit. You spent a long time casting to save our brother. You did well. He ist still with us."

Reluctantly, Asleif accepted the offer of help. "Very well," she said at last, with just the smallest suggestion that she was doing them a favor (merely for formality's sake, of course) by accepting.

"I shall rest."

Svalin smiled as she and Aridis helped Asleif into a chair. "Halbjorn wilt live because of thee," Svalin said. "Asgard wilt not lose a mighty warrior and we wilt not lose a brother. Mine thanks."

"I didst not think it his day to die. Thank thee for proving me right."
