Moonlight duels? What could be more exciting!
Kayura should have been more careful. She should have watched from further off. Or done more research on her computer at home. Things would have gone better. She realized that she was very lucky to be limping into the area reserved for training the next morning.

She didn't feel it. Normally she would dress in demure calf-length skirts with big shapeless tops not wanting to look too pretty or too eye catching. Besides, it was comfortable to dress that way. Today was a pants day though.

And the first time she was going to ask someone for assistance dealing with the supernatural since she had taken over her father's duty. She feels a touch of shame she has to ask for help.

"Hajime-sempai?" He has been here longer than her, he deserves that respect. "May I speak with you?"

She was glad it appeared that they were the only ones here this early in the day. She hadn't slept much after her defeat last night.

She is suddenly and sharply reminded of how serious Hajime really is. About everything really. She is honestly okay with that.

"Then I'll do more than try. I don't like disappointing people."

"I would not have agreed to teach you if I did not already know you could do it. The only person left to disappoint would be yourself. And that would be far more tragic than disappointing me. You can become Samurai, I already believe it. Now it is your turn."

Kayura blinked at him. She just knew she was very tired.

And she had never considered herself a Samurai of any sort. The armor is Samurai armor but it hadn't occurred to her to think like that.

He waits patiently for an answer.

Really? He's waiting, it's getting close to midnight and he expects an answer?

Really? Okay, for her it's early. Normally her hunts last until the early hours of the morning and she crashes after her last afternoon class.

"I know I'll eventually reach the right level in everything. But I don't think of it as becoming a Samurai. I just always thought of it as being the best possible hunter I could be," she admits.

He nods, heading back towards home now. "Good, that will do. The assignment stands, your spirit could use some balancing. By the way - you did very well tonight."

"I--" Acted as she knew was expected. Acted how she had known and needed to act because even though the spirit had killed he was still a good man trying to do the right thing.

"Thank you." She dips her head. "I am sorry I did not think to ask for back up the first time I came here. I did not think he would sense me from where I was. I had not been near the bridge."

He shakes his head. "The man who has never lost, and never made a mistake is a man with nothing to learn from. You made a mistake - and learned from it. Do not be sorry now - be stronger for having survived it. The point stands... last night, you failed. Because of that failure, tonight you had opportunity to excel - and you did so."

It's hard for her to accept that as a compliment to the fact she was learning. It also frustrated her she hadn't done what she was supposed to the first time.

not going to say that though. He was right, she needed to find balance. Find some way to get her head on straight to make things simpler so she wouldn't mess up in the future.

"Mmm." And the hour was late. They should leave.

Now that he's done talking and being patient, he's already moving, the last comments made as he started heading back towards their base. "You will wish to speak with Amiko-sama. She can make arrangements to get you where you need to go quickly, as I understand it. When you are ready, there will be a larger research project I need help with... but that time is not yet."

Oh of course. Of course she should do that and not think about taking a train because going by car would take all day.

Amiko would have a better idea. And help her with logistics to help smooth it all out. She might not have to use her studies as a cover.

She needs to start learning to trust this team thing.

"Hai." As they reach a cross roads she looks up at the signs.

"Are you fine to get back to headquarters on your own?"

If he is she's going to go to her home and rest. Her body is starting to ache again and she wants to rest.

"Oh yes. Looking forward to the walk, now that I have learned how traffic lights work."

She grinned faintly at the subject.

"It's not something easy to get used to. There's maps in lots of locations if you need to find your way." She decides on a quick polite bow before she leaves. "Good night, Sempai."

Her walk will be longer than his until she gets to the subway. She really is glad that there aren't any threats she can think of on the way back. She doesn't want to have to deal with anything else tonight.

He returns the bow, also not worried about her trip. He's sure he has a lot to reflect on, and even hurt, should be able to handle herself, should a problem arise.
