All Hallow's Eve
All Hallow's Eve, or Halloween as it has been come to be called, is a popular holiday with children and adults alike. It is a holiday that had its roots in the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain or Summer's End. Samhain celebrated the end of the "lighter half" of the year and the beginning of the "darker half".

On this evening the barriers between this world and the Otherworld were believed to be thin and the spirits, good and bad, of the dead could pass through. The spirits of the family's ancestors were welcomed in while evil and bad spirits were warded off by the wearing of masks and costumes. The costumes and masks disguised one as a harmful spirit and avoided harm from others.

It was also a harvest celebration and time to take stock of food stores for the winter. Livestock were slaughtered and the meat prepared for storage. It was the final harvest of the year and the crops were then stored for the winter. Celebrations included bonfires and tales of the family's ancestors.

It was a celebration of the dead and of the harvest.

Today we dress up in scary and not so scary costumes and masks and go door to door for candy or attend costume parties. It is a night for revelry, pranks and fun.

El laughed then looked both ways for Bea before offering.

"If it's a very small explosion I could absorb the blast and your sister wouldn't know, but I don't know if a small explosion would be entirely to your taste."

She grins.

"Or if you decide to go out and want company I'd be glad to go with you." The nightlife experience in Alabama was limited far more than it was in Boston Elodie was sure, and any time with Kelly was bound to be interesting.

"Ooohhh, small explosions are better than no explosion at all. I like the way you break rules. And... we'd need to go somewhere that my heavy ammo won't get us in trouble. There's this really hot cowgirl dancer down at the strip club ten blocks from here, and they're doing a costume contest?"

El blinks. She hadn't expected an immediate invitation.

"Okay. I'll just change out of my dress quickly and we can go." She'd also have to grab her staff. She wasn't sure what sort of 'cowgirl strip club' things there were in Boston, but the ones at home had a tendency to turn out fights...which probably would only endear it to Kelly even more.

Well, yes and no. El hasn't discovered Kelly's gun fetish just yet, it seems. The 'cowgirl strip club' is... really just a higher end strip club... that happens to have one cowgirl themed dancer with natural breasts and really nice fake six-shooters as part of her strip club... making Kelly an immediate fan, of course. Mostly of the six-shooters, but the breasts are nice too.

"Sounds good, what're you going as?"

El laughs.

"Well, you said it was a cowgirl thing right? I'm from Alabama. That's practically my whole summer wardrobe. So I don't even have to make too much of an effort."

She wiggles her fingers at Kelly and turns back down the hall undoing the buttons on the back of her dress as she goes. Less than ten minutes later she comes back wearing a red flannel shirt with its tails tied under her breasts and the sleeves rolled up, short denim shorts, and worn but cared for boots with a girlish design on them. Her trench coat is thrown over the bend of her arm and she's got a cowboy hat sitting on her head with two low pigtails coming out the bottom.

"Will this do?"

"Baby, if you added the six-shooters, it only wouldn't do because I'd be pouncing you now." she replies, before offering an arm. "Let's go."

El blushes and slings her jacket on before taking Kelly's arm.

"I can use guns okay enough, but hands and staff are generally more effective with my ability. Why carry the metal when I can fire the equivalent of a bullet without it as long as I've got the energy?"

"So, let me get this straight... and this is purely theoretical, based upon limited knowledge of your abilities. So, if I gave you a spanking, you'd be able to put bullet holes in me?"

El pursed her lips setting aside the embarrassment that spanking brought up and considered the question seriously.

"It would depend on how many strikes and how strong they are. The amount of energy I output is almost exactly the same as I input. I can expand or compress the area it covers, but that will also diminish or compound the effect. How much energy my actual body uses can make a difference too." She motions with the hand that isn't looped through Kelly's arm.

"For example, if I absorb a small explosion that's enough energy for my body to live on without actually eating and producing it's own for a couple of days, or I could expel it immediately even increasing the strength slightly with what energy my body has made naturally because of the food I've eaten today, but that would likely leave me collapsed until I'm given some sort of jump start."

Kelly ponders. "I bench press about one ton, and can move at... well, slightly more than human typical top speed. So generate a fair amount of force, and in this... purely theoretical case, could quite happily generate an awful lot of strikes. So if each blow builds up more energy, and you can take greater than human force... I'm sure we could build up quite a charge. I'm thinking this may require some suitably scientific experimentation... I'll even wear a labcoat and glasses."

El shivers noticeably and turns her face to look Kelly in the eyes even as her arm tightens on Kelly's.

"I've never--" She stops and gathers her thoughts a moment forcing them back to the 'theoretical'. For now she was going to have a nice night out with Kelly and worry about explaining her limitations and inexperience later.

"It sounds like a good experiment. Though I should probably mention I have an overload point. I don't think we could reach it without some well sized explosions but it bears mentioning."

Kelly grins. "There's a first time for everything. Besides, if Mythbusters has proven nothing else, its that good science always involves explosions. But we can discuss this overload point and other scientific principles at our leisure."
