Freedom always has a price.
The incursion into the Weapon X facility had resulted in the liberation of its inhabitants - one of them being Evie. During the chaos, she'd managed to slip through the building to a door... a door to the outside. The collar inhibiting her abilities was removed, broken into tiny shards, and Evie was free to use her powers as she wanted. Finally. Fear, panic and the need to flee had her lifting off the ground and flying as fast as she could away from the building. She didn't have any direction in mind, hell, she didn't even know where she was, but she wanted to be away. Far, far away.

She barely paid any attention to the landscape as she passed, merely trying to find a place she could easily lose herself in. A city came into view, one teeming with life and bodies and places easy to disappear into. Landing on a rooftop, she collapsed to her knees. Adrenaline and stubbornness had gotten her this far. She was already weakened from a week with no food - a punishment for disobedience - and needed a moment to catch her breath before attempting to fit in with the bustling bodies down below.

When she'd calmed enough and felt more steady on her feet, she went to the side of the building lined by an alley, making sure the coast was clear as she quickly lowered herself to the ground. She knew she shouldn't use her abilities in public; a fact that had been drilled into her by her handlers for the time when she'd been broken enough to be a useful asset. Landing in the middle of the alley, she leaned back against the brick wall, feeling her heartbeat slow from a thundering roar to something almost normal.

She couldn't believe it. She was free. A strangled sob left her, one she quickly swallowed back down. Now was not the time to fall to pieces. She needed to--

"Well, well, well. Look what the alley cat dragged in. What's the matter, Red? You get a little lost on the way to Grandma's house?"

The voice came from her right, three bodies coming from around the corner of the building and making their way over to her with smiles she recognized all too well. Mean, bullying smiles. Predatory smiles. The guards had worn those smiles. She'd hated them. Looking at the three of them, she pushed off from the wall and turned to walk to the other end of the alley. To the street filled with people that was visible from where she stood. She'd made it five steps before she felt her arm grabbed and she was whirled around, held face-to-face with that leering smile that made her hunch her shoulders out of habit.

"Didn't anyone ever teach you it's bad manners to ignore someone? We asked you a question, Red. And now you've gone and hurt our feelings." He was a bulky, dark haired man, teeth yellowed and eyes cruel as he looked down at her.

The thin blonde with the darting eyes snickered from beside him. "I can think of a few ways she can kiss it and make it all better."

"Great idea, Stan. Whaddya think, Red? Where you wanna kiss first?" One of his hand slid up her arm, cupping the back of her neck.

And Evie had had enough. Enough of the leering. Enough of the mean smiles. Enough of being defenseless. Without the collar, she was anything but, even at low reserves. Her hand came up and grabbed his wrist, an action that had him laughing for a heartbeat before there was a sizzling sound and the smell of burnt flesh filled the air. Then he was howling, jerking himself away from her and cradling his arm to his chest. "Bitch! Freak bitch!"

The whistle through the air warned her of the pipe aiming for her head, one she stopped halfway to its mark with a thought, turning to glare at the third male, one currently wearing a look of surprised fear. Another mental push, and the man - and his pipe - went flying into the opposite wall, a satisfying crunch as he landed face first, nose gushing blood as he slid down to land in a heap on the ground. The skinny blonde's eyes were darting even more as he hid behind the dark haired thug, tugging and screaming at him to get him to leave. Rage fueled the handful of flame that manifested in her palm, flames that grew bigger as she hurled them at the pair. A scream left her as she stood there, watching them both be enveloped in a pillar of fire, all the rage and fear crawling its way out to make a hideous pained howl.

The fire disappeared abruptly, a wave of dizziness flooding over her as her exhaustion finally began to win out over the adrenaline rush. Backing away from the charred corpses, she stumbled through the debris in the alley, not making it to the corner of the building before she collapsed, watching the world swim in front of her eyes, the colour leeching from it until everything was a blank slate of grey - then there was nothing.

Andrea quietly consulted several web-databases for information that might help her with this girl, information moving with speeds that DSL and broadband companies would have committed murder for.

She came up with several possible options based upon current information. She would need more data.

"Do not worry about it," she said instead. "Just relax and rest."

Easy for a robot to say. Did robots tense up? She didn't know. Maybe when she could, she'd ask her about that - if she was still here. She'd been quietly testing the exits of the room and was annoyed that they weren't easily overcome. She'd have to put more effort into getting out of here, which would be noticeable if, oh, say a door flew off its hinges by itself. She didn't know how much they knew of her, or what they knew, for that matter. She didn't want to give too much away.

At this point, Kristoff knocks on the door before opening it, a bowl of soup with utensils in his hands. "I managed to get this away before my wife became too... creative. Her cooking can be ... an acquired taste."

"She has not spoken, Kristoff," Andrea told him. "But otherwise appears reasonably well, given what she appears to have been through."

Evie looked between the two, still unsure what the endgame here was. Was this some kind of trial? A test that she wasn't aware of? She looked around for cameras.

Kristoff sets the soup and spoon on the cleared desk.

"It is understandable to be disoriented after being moved somewhere while unconscious," he admits to Andrea. Then, to their guest, "This is for you." The chair is pulled out in proper Old Europe fashion.

Andrea nodded slightly at Kristoff's statement, but otherwise did not say anything.

Now she had to look more closely at him, wondering if he was a robot too. Robots that didn't look like robots... She moved along the wall to the table, but didn't take the seat. It put her back to them, and that just wasn't happening.

"Am I interrupting something?" Vincent is in the doorway, regarding the new arrival.

Kristoff watches her. The circuitry at his wrists probably doesn't help much with concluding whether or not he's an android, though he's human as human can be.

Eventually, he picks up the chair, places it with it's back to the wall -- being careful not to get too close -- and then steps back to the table to pick up the soup again. "Andrea, could you please move the table to accomodate the lady's apparent preferences?"

And then his brother's here. "As you can see, phral, our guest is awake."

"Of course, Kristoff," Andrea said. She picked up the table without any apparent effort at all, moving it to its new location.

"There we go."

She almost jumps at the new voice. More people. More tests? She stops moving, eyes darting between the three.

Watching the rearranging of the furniture - apparently for her comfort, her chin tips up slightly. She could have done that herself. But she was still wary of letting these... people? know too much about her.

Sidling along the wall, she reaches over, grabs the bowl and brings it up to sip at.

Kristoff, the soul of propriety, makes himself not look at the spoon on the table with dismay.

He just observes. It's perfectly normal soup, as he had gotten it away from his wife before she overseasoned or otherwise 'perfected' it.

Andrea watched the girl carefully, noticing that her vital signs had stabilized some sense.

Just where had she come from? There was also something... semi-familiar about her, in a way she could not understand.

She opted to run a facial recognition program instead.

Evie eyes the new arrival over her bowl of soup. Brother, hmm? Interesting. A family hospital of some kind. Which meant the man with the circuitry wasn't a robot like the girl.

Finishing the soup, she placed the bowl back on the table, then stood there, hesitantly. She was waiting for the hazy feeling of being drugged to hit her - a compromise she'd been willing to make to get sustenance. They had to have drugged the food. She wouldn't let them near her any other way...

Vincent approaches the bedside. He murmurs something, then simply pulls his legs up from the floor and floats next to it, rather than pulling up a chair. "Hello. My name is Vincent."

"Vincent," Kristoff mutters in warning. He's not sure if too much sudden magic would be best used around an easily startled patient, so he doesn't want Vincent going too far.

Kristoff places a small tablet on the table. Even if there didn't appear to be any vocal cord damage, she might still be more willing to right than speak. "In case you need it," he tells the girl. Then, to Andrea and his brother. "I have some things to attend to. If anyone needs me, I will be in my laboratory."

Hmm. A few certain possible facial similarities to certain individuals, but nothing conclusive. Best not to ask as of right now.

"Of course, Kristoff," she said. "We will be fine."

Floating? She can do that. Chin still up in a stubborn gesture, she folds her own legs, mimicking him as she floats along by the wall.

She looks at the tablet, then at Kristoff as he leaves. Laboratory, hmm? So he's one of those kinds of doctors. God, she hoped they hadn't implanted her with anything while she slept. She hated that.

Vincent nods as Kristoff departs. "Don't overwork yourself." He looks at the girl. "He keeps very busy."

He grins as the girl copies him. "Very nice. Can you tell me your name?"

Unexpected power manifestations? This just got stranger and stranger. Andrea focused her sensors, to see if she could determine the source of the floatingness.

"Vincent," she said after a moment, "I am detecting low levels of cosmic radiation, similar to Franklin or Valeria."

Looking at the tablet, she floated it over to her, jotting down her name, then floating it over to Vincent. 'Evie'.

She turned when Andrea spoke, frowning. She wasn't toxic... was she? Had the facility done something to her to make her some kind of walking bomb? Oh god...

He examines the pad. "It's very nice to meet you, Evie." He gives her another smile.
