An Old Friend
Fred was enjoying a moment outside, taking in the cool night air. Work had progressed acceptably, Sasha was inside making cookies, and his therapy sessions with Xavier were going well. All-in-all, things were going rather well.

"Hey, Friedrich!" came an emphatic whisper.

Fred turned in surprise. "Gary!? What are you doing on the surface?"

"Nice to see you too, kid," came the snarky reply. "Just wanted to give you a heads-up on that stuff you sent the eggheads."

"You mean the genetics data?"

"Yep."

	Gary nods. "That's why I came straight to Fred. My power lets me teleport on a global scale, makes it easy for me to get to places quickly. I'll have to be heading back soon, but they did give me this." He hands Fred a computer disk. "Some of their prelem..pulmonary...?" "Preliminary?" Fred offered. "Yeah, that's it. Some early stuff." 	Cleaning up the rest of the dishes, she went and sat in the living room, lights low. She wasn't ready to go to bed until she knew how Fred was doing tonight - particularly if he was having a visitor from his past. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"It's..something to consider. So how bad would the Ascendants react if I were successful?"

"Depends on whom. Anders would scream the walls down on our heads. Masterson would probably be in the streets calling for an uprising. And Yurivich..God only knows what that psycho would do. But don't you worry, kid, we're keep them off you."

"Thank you, Gary. I appreciate that."

"Hey, you've done for us. Sanctum doesn't forget its friends." Gary's quiet for a moment. "You two boinking?"

"Shut up!" Fred said, turning crimson.

"Okay, okay," Gary let up. "I'll tell the guys you said hello. Take care of yourself, Friedrich." And Gary disappears in a flash of light.

Fred felt a little better, but also a little weightier. He went back inside.

	Curled up on the couch, she heard him coming in, scratching the fabric of the couch with her nail to let him know where she was if he was interested in joining her. It worried her, hearing about the fact that his work had people up in arms. It made her feel more like she wanted to wrap him up and take him away somewhere. Somewhere safe.
