Just Your Ordinary Family Dinner (When the combined attendees could probably level a small nation)
The first thing had been Gio's insistence that the dinner take place in Genosha, for security reasons. That had been a non-issue for him to agree to. Then there was some discussion of a menu, and the headcount range. The seating arrangement had nearly been the source of a small anxiety attack, before Andrew helpfully intervened.

It had taken multiple jumps, both the day before and the day of the dinner, but Angelo had assembled everything he needed for dinner. Mother's kitchen was the next best thing, of course, but it wasn't his kitchen. Besides that, there was a balance of ingredients he wanted to buy the day of, fresh, rather than drop them off the day before. Genosha was, of course, the most beautiful country in the world, but as Andrew had pointed out, it was somewhat lacking in cattle, and even some poultry. It was amazing what putting together a large scale tapas-French fusion meal did to calm his mind and keep it off the Worst Possible Outcomes of the dinner.

Plus, his girlfriend loved watching him prep and cook, which made him feel wonderful. True to his word, he'd let her help to the best of her ability, which also included making sure Mother didn't lift a finger so far as dinner preparation went. He left it to Andrew and Gio to handle any interim small-talk until he put the first course, a simple set of salads, out.

He gave Charlotte a brief kiss before they headed out, ringing a dinner bell before grabbing the tray of dishes and heading to the dinner table, set for a very decent number of people. Angelo, Charlotte, Gio, Andrew, Sengai, Rikki, Simon, Magneto, Paris, Carmella, and three extra seats kept ready in case Alex, Lorna, or (for a very slim chance of likelihood) Raven made themselves present.

"Dinner, is served."

Magneto's temper rises. He's unused to being contradicted, or even interrupted. He locks eyes with his grandson, and one can almost envision the unspoken exchange between the two of them. With the unrest in portions of his nation, he's almost recalled the mission as it was more than once. He very nearly does so, or at least uses that suggestion verbally now - or any number of others.

He is Magneto, he does not take well to being challenged. He does not compromise his ideals.

And with that thought, two things make his mind up.

First, Sam Guthrie. The comments once exchanged on how those very ideals, the inability to bend, to see the world changing would cost him those who might believe him. That the tighter he closed his grip, the more students would slip through the cracks. He lost them, failed Charles, failed their chance at compromise - and whatever she may think of him, he does not want to lose his daughter.

Second, Andrew himself. He had expected some flinch, or further sign of disrespect. He finds neither. Instead, they meet eyes, and he sees... himself.
It wouldn't matter if he recalled them, if he forbade Charlotte, any of it. He wouldn't change any minds any more than all of Xavier's idealism has changed his.

"On one condition. You will let Angelo transport you back and forth. Xavier's may be as safe as the embassy, but the open road isn't. Please do not try and push me further."

...wow. An honest to god compromise. It gave her...hope for her dad. It was a little overwhelming, she never realized how much hinged on her father choosing her happiness over his philosophy.

"...you could just buy me a car, my 19th birthday is in 3 weeks..." Hey, she had to try for it..but she definately looked less anxious.

He bent, he compromised, he offered one condition - and joking or not, she immediately chose to push it and ask for something else that was not the compromise. No, Magneto looks neither amused nor happy. Not even a little.

"Do you want to accept the terms, or not?"

"Please, darling, just take the win with grace." Angelo pleaded asked his girlfriend quietly.

Well. This was getting... tense.

Rikki subtly increased her density just a little, just in case things went flying.

Geeze...did his sense of humor disappear along with his hair color..?? "It was just a joke...if it makes everyone feel better...of course I'll do it. For now. But at some point *everyone* is going to have to cut the apron strings or else someone's going to get strangled with them."

Sengai strangely enough had remained completely nonplussed by events. In truth he simply decided if he was going to die, then he was going to die happy. He finished his salad and promptly took a drink.

"It is not a matter of growing up or not. Who you are places you in an unsafe position. Many people would attempt to kidnap or kill you, car or no, given easy opportunity. Diplomats, and their children, many times your age, recognize and take advantage of secure transportation and limited bodyguards. Restricting it to Angelo should be sufficient show that I'm trusting you."

"Dad.." She geared up to argue, to poitn out that beyond the hard core militant groups on both sides...the general public just didnt care..but she stopped herself. It just..wouldnt go over well. "I understand. Thank you."
