Hitchiking from Home
Alex runs across the hangar, even as he can hear the engine of the craft humming to life and the door is closing. "Hold that shuttle!" He manages a leap and manages to get in the door narrowly enough that it would have caught a boot-heel if he weren't carrying them in his arms. He's holding a jacket as well, and his belt and top button of his pants are still undone. He'd found out there was a suitable departure just after he'd checked his calendar and realized what day it was, and had ran at top speed from his room, despite being fresh from the shower.

Once he's safely onboard (read: sprawled across the floor of the entry area), he takes a look around. Checking which ship it was had escaped him at the moment.

"Between the talents and the family reputation, I'd have a rough time getting a business permit anywhere in my own country."

"Ah... I can understand that. I kind of lucked out on notoriety so far as parents go, but it can be a lot to live up to. Even had a cult expecting me to be some kind of Messiah just because of who my mom is for a while. Still show up and bug me once a year or so." Alex shrugs.

"You got any music or anything on here?"

"Earth Classical, John Denver, or Lila Cheney?"

Alex looks surprised, then chuckles and runs a hand back through his hair. "Lila. Cheney. Gods, I haven't listened to her since... since Dad tried to give me 'the talk' and I ran screaming from the room. Fire it up." He gives an approving nod.

She presses the button, and Miss Cheney's guitar will start to howl.

He leans back in his chair slightly. "Nice... takes me back. My dad turned me onto this stuff. You?" He might be folding his arms just a little bit tighter as the temperatures are dipping.

"Honestly? I liked her business plan before I started truly appreciating her music. Before I understood how she operated, I didn't give her much chance."

"Y'know, she doesn't explicitly make it clear to people on Earth that she works multiple galaxies. Pointing out you're a mutant to most people is bad for business."

"Ah, that. Yeah... some of the more hardline Kree get all 'racial purity' every couple decades, but most races find plenty else to fight about without splitting hairs over genes. Always thought it was weird that even knowing how much else is out there, Earth still finds so much to fight over just inside it's own atmosphere."

"I guess so." He tightens his jaw, adjusting the blanket a little, humming a few bars to distract himself. "How'd you get the ship situation sorted out?"

"No worries there. I'm no good against beautiful women, that's why I don't play against Azura anymore, and Eliza never got invited to the weekly game. The game I won Ride in it took me two hours before I started setting the hook to get the ladies out of the game. Free drinks, compliments, and a very good friend I still owe a favor acting as wingman."

Alex sits up a bit straighter.

"Miss Reece, let me make one thing very clear.

If you don't see any playing cards in front of me, you can trust me to be playing straight with you.

On my team or on my station, I'll always promise you that."

She actually chuckles now, huddled up though she is -- huddled up by herself. "Sorry, Star Lord. Human nature. Nothing we can do. We'll fight over anything. Pizza's just classier than genes or religion."

"I guess... but which city's version do you like best?

And do you know Jeff Dunham or Captain America?"

Even out in the more Terra-savvy parts of space, being from Earth is (erroneously) regarded in much the same way that Americans generally regard being from Canada.
