Open scene at x-mansion
Having helped with the car washing for a while, a slightly troubled Lucas has moved off to sit in the grass, discarding his sirt and jacket - easier to meditate that way. He chants softly, almost inaudibly, pausing every now and then to look about, or cock his head as if listening to someone or something.

"Mental powers, like illusions, have so many little quirks and need so much finesse. I know its taking me forever to learn all the little details. But, as you said, that's why I was sent here too. Some things my mother and mentor could teach me, but not everything. You seem to have done a great job self instructing though. If the rabbit had had a spirit... and, I suppose, if you hadn't told me you were an illusionist, I'd have believed it."

"I'm a Cheyanne and First Nations shaman, studying to be a medicine man. One of the little quirks to that is, well, being able to pick up on things like that... if animals are natural and all that. Basically, I'm fluent in rabbit, and wolf, and so on. Your illusion was physically perfect... but it wasn't, well, talking to me, in a manner of speaking."

"Like Danielle? Danielle is good people... but then she's neither fully human nor wolf. She's part Asgardian shapeshifter, part human mutant... so her spirit is... very powerful, definitely partly lupine, but definitely not a normal wolf."

"Yeah, I can talk to her. She still speaks wolf just fine. She's a nice girl, but communicating can be hard through that kind of language barrier. I hang out with her and her sister quite a bit."

"Well, it has its upsides, but learning magic also was a matter of an added five to ten hours a day just about every day after schoolwork, and even then, you have to convince the spirits they like you enough to help. I'd be happy to translate for Danielle for you sometime though. Her sister can also help."

"I try to be nice." She smiled big. Hey, the theory worked! No mention of telepathy and they could be friends. That was easy enough. She didn't hardly use it anyway. "Sure. I love to show off my card tricks. They're my specialty."

"Fantastic, I'll look forward to that then." he replies cheerfully. Of course, Lucas is pretty easy to make friends with. "I wasn't sure if that would bother you or not... since you had to do tricks on stage and everything, not sure if you'd want to ever look at a deck of cards again when you're not getting paid for it."

"Nah, I don't mind. I loved all the tricks and illusions. I only quit because I wanted to stop traveling so much."

She fully intended to continue practicing and keep up with her tricks. They weren't good for much here, but they made her happy.

"That's great, thank you." He considers a few moments. "We're probably also going to have a lot of the same classes and power instruction. Try try and group people with somewhat related powers. Once you get whatever schedule they're going to give you, I can look it over and give you some warnings, tips on the instructors, and study materials... if I'm right anyway. I'm guessing they'd put illusions with the psionics."

"Well, the magic stuff is pretty varied. Partly depends on how well the spirits like me that day. My specialties are healing and protection, but I'm still pretty early in training. All those portrayals of medicine men as tribal elders? Pretty accurate, and for a reason. Mutant genes? I'm a dreampath. Pretty much immune to having my mind messed with, but otherwise pretty useless during the time people are awake. For the most part though, just lets me enter and interact with people's dreams."

He shakes his head. "Never without permission. A lot of people get understandably nervous about someone wandering through their subconscious mind and most hidden thoughts. For that matter, a lot of people don't really like someone watching them when they sleep even. I try and help where I can, but it can be a tough one to practice."

Well, that was a relief. "Yeah, I can see how that would be problematic. I never really thought such a thing was possible. Of course, I'm feeling a lot of that in the last few days."

Then she blinked and shook her head. "Sorry, you were doing something before I interrupted you. Am I being a pest?"

"Not at all. I was just meditating and doing a little bit of warding. Misha has been through a lot lately, so I'm working on cleansing the area a little, help him sleep easier. There's no rush. Besides, I like people, including new ones. If you ever need anything, you can usually find me out in the woods or next to the water. Don't worry about interrupting me."
