The first punch from Vlad bypassed Dmitri's own guard, and just left an opening for his little brother to follow up with some good hits of his own. But Vlad is also just really strong, of course, and he ends up sending Dmitri hurtling backwards again. He'd found that the best plan when fighting his super strong brother was to just let the hit throw him -- it did less damage that way.
So Dmitri was thrown back, and he was hurting. But he was also recovering and getting up. He decided it would be a good idea to make an outer-armor, too. Double the protection, you know? yeah, really good idea. That would lessen the blow a bit more.
