What's more, as the dust is clearing, it does look like Dmitri is still there. But he wasn't-- he left his outer armor there as a decoy and hoped his brother would fall for it. Dmitri had tried making his way behind Vlad, using rubble and debris and stealth training to keep out of Vlad's sight.
And while he did that, his little net (which he'd formed out of his previous gauntlet), was just trying to latch onto whatever body part it could. Since Vlad had grabbed it with his hand, it was trying to cover his entire hand and lock in place.
