Looking For Luck I Can't Even Buy
It was a perfect fall afternoon. The thermometer was in the low 60s, the sky was a bright blue and the sun was bright. The trees were vibrant oranges, yellows and reds as they showed off their colors of the season. It was also the time of the year for Dad's birthday and Anya was at a loss of what to get him this year.

It was a great excuse to shop.

Classes finished up early on Fridays and Anya was back in New York by two. Plenty of time to shop, grab dinner and then find something to do for the evening. The first thing she did was grab Toni to drag her along. Anya's free time had been in short supply lately as she got caught up with school and it had been awhile since she had some time with her bestest friend.

The streets and sidewalks were crowded as they made their way down Fifth Avenue.

At the groan, Jack shifted to lift his weight off Anya but still keep her protected from attack with his body. "You okay?" he asked urgently as he lifted his head to look around.

"She's pissed as hell." Seeing no Temujin, Jack sat back on his heels. "Can you move?"

"I think so," she said as she slowly sat up. "Ugh." She gingerly touched her cheek. Her cheek bone was probably broken. Dammit. "Temujin?"

"The guy with the attitude? He's gone." Jack moved to a crouch and offered his hand. "I'll help you up. We better get you to a doctor now."

"Get up slowly," he said patiently as he reached for her hand. "If you listen, you'll hear her yelling. Nobody that loud is hurt or lost."

"Yes, sir," she said and took the offered hand. Slowly she climbed to her feet. "At least she's not yelling at me."

Jack put an arm around Anya for support while they waited for Toni. "She yell at you a lot?"

Anya leaned into Jack a little bit.

"She has to. She's a Rhodes and I'm a Stark," Anya laughed. "It's a tradition for both families. Starks do stupid things and Rhodeses bail them out. Then Starks get yelled at being stupid."

"Okay." Not his problem, so he was going to shut up right now.

Jack continued to support her as carefully as he could. He could imagine how much it hurt.
