SHIELD Thanksgiving (meme)
Unsurprisingly, SHIELD had plenty of people who stress-baked, used cooking as an outlet, or just like tinkering with food (in and outside the Biolab). This widespread trend in culinary skills made Thanksgiving more of a gastric marathon than a hearty meal and emails would go around jokingly about fasting on Tuesday and Wednesday to prepare, or rooms commandeered and stuffed with pillows and blankets for the post-eating/drinking food comas.

The buffet tables were daunting to say the least, groaning boards living up to their name, and by the time you went up for seconds, the spread was different. After a tragic mix up between the hot mustard and nacho cheese, all the dishes were clearly marked with what was in them, and even some suggestions for pairing written in pencil by previous grazers. Val went for the mulled wine first, for liquid courage.

"Nicer, or foisting leftovers on others so they don't have to deal with them," she pointed out with a smirk and headed for a table to set her drink down to claim a chair. "Wish me luck, diving in."

"I'm an optimistic and hungry so nicer it is," Brad says as he takes his seat to start eating. "Good luck."

She chuckled and slipped into the crowds to be spat out later on with a sizable plate of foods. "It seems like the R&D department decided to optimized their roasted-turkey-in-the-jet-exhaust technique," she added and sat down, starting with the nutmeg pumpkin soup.

"Well as long as its not one of my jets it seems fine to me," Brad say between bites of food. He was almost halfway through his plate already.

She chuckled and nodded. He was fast but at least the food stayed in his mouth when he chewed. "Well, if you suddenly have a craving for stuffing and candied yams during a practice run, you'll know why. Rumor has it they made pumpkin and egg nog ice cream with the liquid nitrogen again."

"And I guess I'll know which side of the helicarrier to accidentally buzz with a sonic boom," Brad says, "That's why I usually just go for Ben and Jerry's."

"You'll fly at crazy speeds without batting an eye," she pointed out with amusement. "But food vetted from the labs makes you leery."

"Food made using questionable methods does," Brad points out, "Plus Ben and Jerry's is awesome."

"So I guess that means you steer clear of lye-soaked or strategically fermented foods too," she replied and lifted her wine. "Barring wine and beer, of course."

"I'm not going to lie. I'm not really sure what those are," Brad says having a bit of his own drink.

"It is good to be open-minded, but there's some delicacies out there that make me wonder how drunk those people were," she stopped and shuddered. With a deep drink to wash the taste out of her mouth, she picked up some casserole. "Ooh there's potato chips on this."

"Probably very drunk but then again who are we to judge with hotdogs and what not," Brad says. "Why do people put potato chips in those."

"It's crunchy and salty, and who can say no to that?" she asked and poked the dish some more. "It's not like whatever healthiness was in here wasn't beaten into submission with the cream and the cheese. Why go halfway?"

"But you still don't want to know what it was made with," Brad pointed out. "True you've got a point there. Though I thought to day was just all about some good food."

"Yup," she toasted to that. "I'm sure there's many different reasons to observe today, but I'll settle for another round of overeating and trying new dishes."

Brad raised his glass to that and took a sip. "Food holidays are the best."

She had to nod around a mouthful of food when he toasted, following suit quickly with her own glass. "Aww it's empty now," she eyed the drained cup. "Seconds at the drink table it is, you in?"

"Sure," Brad says grinning. He was almost ready for seconds at the food table as well.

The perk of heading for drinks was walking past the food and planning her attack. "I think I saw prime rib being cut and plenty of shredded horseradish. Good place to start the next dish."

"Prime rib sounds like a great idea and I saw some awesome looking roast potatoes up there earlier that would probably go great with it."

"Earlier? Hm, might not be there any more," she teased and with drink in hand, headed for that rib and some vegetables to go with it. For appearance's sake.

She chuckled and picked another sizable plate before getting one full of mash potatoes, squash, mushy things. "Nice choices. Did you get a spare plate. For later?" she asked, stressing the last word.

"No. Mom always said never grab more food than you can eat so," Brad as he sits down to start eating again.

She shrugged innocently and took a neat bite. "Just so you know, word is a food fight might possibly erupt after a few rounds," she added in a conspiratorial voice. "After everyone's had their fill."
