You need to maintain your wardrobe if you're going to dress to impress... (Frances)
Martin might've not really understood why people where so against teleporting in, but at least he was learning to respect it. Which is why the young mage appeared at the door of the West Coast Avengers HQ instead of right in their living room. He'd even sent those blue magic lights as messengers ahead of him. Okay, those things weren't patient, they were nagging little things really, but they counted as giving a heads up! And much easier than dealing with knocking. It got people to the door much better anyway.

Plus, not like this was too out of the blue. Annoying squeaking lights should've gotten the message across. There needed to be dapper suit shopping! He couldn't do it on his own. In fact, he'd even dressed up a little more, with a blazer and pocket square to go with his usual vest, hat and gloves ensemble.

While he waited for the slow people on the other side of the door, Martin occupied his time by examining the door itself, tapping it with his hat and looking to see what sort of magical protection, if any, the building had.

Martin was about to throw back a 'I'm always on the Doctor's card! He has all the dubloons' but that wouldn't fit their game or story. "He doesn't have as good taste for suits," Martin sniffed before going back to looking like a smiling quokka with how pleased he was with the wingtips. When the shop people turned away to get something he even made the tips flap a little and his smile just grew even more pleased. Yes, he really liked this sort of collar, perfect for fancy events to go with the hat.

It was only when they left to go get rid of all offending patterns did he actually touch the jacket he was trying on to adjust it, then froze and gave Frances a wide eyed look. Maaaybe it hadn't been the best idea to try touching something after being crowded for that long. He gave her a tiny 'help!' look and opened the jacket to show that the silk lining inside, which had been a lovely almost silver to go with the very dark blue-grey of the jacket was now...not silver grey. Instead it was, a very nice actually, lighter shade of blue.

Oops.

She snickered, the Good Doctor was still rocking the Renn Faire Shirt tucked into Leggings look. Clearly it wasn't style that landed that man the ladies. "That's why I'm considered a good influence for you," she replied as if this was completely reasonable and tehy didn't have milk shakes with their all night movie marathons. Martin's joy with the wingtips (which even flapped about and now she was comparing shirts to Namor) made her smile.

Spoke too soon. Martin was looking panicky and at the inside of his new jacket and what was wrong it was a lovely color of light- That had supposed to be grey. The inside of the jacket was previously grey. She raised her eyebrows high and looked back at him, waiting for the next shoe to drop.

A tiny voice popped up in her head. I...don't think I can turn it back...

Which probably sounded ridiculous considering she'd seen him do massive dragon fireworks, long range teleporting, and all sorts of crazy ways of blowing up things. Surely turning some silk back to its original colour would be easier. But apparently that was a case of too little magic and too much precision needed. And he was terrible with those things.

Hell, some of the furniture at HQ had originally been different sorts of furniture before he'd accidentally gotten to it. Now he might be able to try changing the jacket back but...there was a chance the rest of it might change colour or stop being a jacket...

He made another distressed sound and the wing tips flapped a little in panic.

She took a deep breath, hand up and out to mimic her diaphragm to show him he should do the same. If he was starting to hype himself into a worry, his magic would do the same, only in more technicolor. And they so weren't going to be kicked out of one of these classy establishments. Leave it be, we don't need them wondering about if this is a scene from Sleeping Beauty, she thought back for him. Just.... keep it cool.

His wingtip collars were actually flapping and she had to not start laughing to keep him calm. It was funny, in a weird sort of way.

He stared at her in wide-eyed panic for a second before getting the message, giving an earnest nod to show he understood, his wing tips nodded in time with him. Right, deep breaths.

Martin took a huge breath in, if deep breaths helped he was going to go very deep, and was about to let it out when the assistants rushed back to double check swatch colours against him. Eeep! He froze, breath still held in and stood very very still staring at Frances still with a 'help help help!' look. The wingtips made shooing away motions at the shop people when they weren't looking but short of teleporting them off there wasn't much he could do.

Stay calm stay calm, magic accidents happen if you don't stay calm, he told himself. But it was really hard to do that while holding your breath and being crowded by people who he really hoped wouldn't check the inside of his jacket.

Frances put her tea saucer to the side and stood up, walking over in a not-rushed-way. "Excuse me," she announced and made shooing motions at the attendants to give the two of them space. "The lighting in here is grand and all, but some of these need to be seen up close." She fussed and adjusted the swatches over his shoulders and stood back to inspect them, hopefully giving him time. "I did like this style of collar, it doesn't really need to be ironed down as much as the other styles. But not for all looks, maybe we should change for the next suit."

When Frances managed to shoo the assistants away, he finally let that huge breath out. Deep breathing worked better when people didn't surprise you. By his shoulder movements she could probably see his breathing getting less exaggerated-calm to try and stay in control, and after a minute he'd managed to get back to breathing normally and gave her a small shy smile of thanks. He was a bit more on edge than he had been upon entering the store, but it was a vast improvement from the panic eyes from a few minutes ago.

Martin finally gulped and nodded, taking care not to nod the wingtips this time as he tried to slide back into normal mode. "Different for the next suit. But can we buy one of this collar at least? ...Please?"

It looked like Martin was coming back from the tipping point, so she kept on being an obstruction to the workers. Surely the two of them weren't the most eccentric and difficult customer they had ever had. She gave Martin a smile when he moved on from his panic attack, later on she'd mention he pulled himself back well. For now, she nodded and tilted her head. "Yes, a shirt or two in this style, I like what it does to the length of your neck. Now, something in black for the more formal settings." She waved down a worker to reappear.

He stayed quiet and kept up work on calming down as the worker reappeared and did the whole swatch routine. He still wasn't quite sure where those swatches seemed to appear from given they weren't doing any magic, but maybe it was something special they taught in suit shops. Once the workers scurried away to get him something to try on, a tiny petulant voice popped into Frances' head. Well...it looked better with the blue anyway, he sniffed with some dignity. It totally did! In fact he was considering getting the jacket now that it had blue. But he'd totally improved that jacket for them, there should be a discount. Or they could at least reveal the mystery of the swatches to him.

She smiled, faintly and out of the blue, it seemed. The blue did look good with the color of pewter of the outer part, she had to agree. But then they would have been jealous and wanted it back for their own collection, she offered back. Imagine the confusion they'll have when people come and demand that style of coat with that color lining and they have no idea. Walking back to her chair, she added as a afterthought, literally. And you did fine with that little dust-up. Getting better. Sitting down, she grinned at him before looking at the next suit to be tried on.

I guess..., he reluctantly agreed. Still, totally better in blue. His smile at that praise likely seemed as out of the blue as her smile before had been, but improvement! He was getting better, even Frances said so! That meant something.

As the evening suit was got out for him, Martin transitioned back into actual verbal speech now that he was calm enough again. "Are you going to get something for yourself?"

She stood up and looked through some of the different styles, picking and choosing. "His evening formal look, I'd like a similar set. The wingtips are his, I'll go with a very close collar. There's a charming set of collar chains that'd be striking with that cut." Strolling a little longer, she examined a few of their dark fabrics. "With an indigo vest and band. A blue-purple, yes."

If he got nothing else out of this trip but wingtips, he'd still consider it a success. But Frances got an approving beam for the choice of vest, he approved of vests across the board. "What're collar chains?" Martin whispered once it seemed safe to, they had to keep up the snooty act after all and he figured snooty people knew what those were. While the assistants were off getting Frances' suit, Martin took advantage of their absence to use some TK to help him get into the evening suit and button up the vest and shirt.

She was cinching up the vest's strap to fit better and looked herself over with an approving nod. Now they needed a good reason to dress up like this. "They're like little cufflinks for your collars with a little chain. Like the thingies holding the Doc's cloak closed," she described and pointed at where the closures would be on the good Sorcerer. His vest went drifting in the wrong direction and she steered it back towards him.

He tried to imagine what that'd look like, and so far it sounded good. Too bad he didn't do capes or cloaks. One day though, maybe when he was older and a more awesome sorcerer he'd go the cloak route. He still hadn't decided on his official future magic wardrobe. "Hmm, they sound nice. Are your going to have little arrows for the link part?"

Martin gave her a sheepish thank you smile as the vest was herded back. Concentrating on too many things with TK tended to lead to mind and object wandering. Luckily he managed to get into the vest, hands free, before any assistants returned.

She grinned widely at the arrows suggestion, of course a Hawkeye was going to have arrows for decoration. Actually no, her father and brother'd probably strangle themselves with the little chain part, so probably just herself. "Need to see if they have ones that look like the Eye of Amaretto."

"Seems like you've been practicing a lot with finesse," she pointed out before the assistants started coming close. "Is it because of the growth spurt, or you just were really bored during the meetings? Hmm, these will be adequate for now."

"Eye of Agamatto," he corrected with some dignity, unaware the rare magical artifact had been just called a liqeur essentially.

"It's because I've been practicing. A whole lot!" Because when you couldn't use your hands much, TK finesse was something you wanted to work on. Plus he was proud of how much he'd improved in the last few years. "...But meetings are real boring."

She smiled all the same, enjoying the misname-magical-names games of theirs. Kept her looking like a silly simple mortal who didn't get things, and Martin got persnickety. Snorting, she nodded her agreement of boring meetings. "Sometimes, I wear sunglasses on the off chance I fall asleep. Gives me at least fifteen-twenty minutes before someone catches on and starts yelling." And then the punishment duties, but hey, she was getting better at it.

He snickered then considered that. "Do you think I could do sunglasses? Or would it look funny?" He did have a pair, to use on the dressed up suit adventures, it gave the whole thing a GQ shoot vibe. Who said stylish and adventure couldn't go together?

"Sunglasses and suits are snazzy," she assured him, even if it'd make him look like a tiny drunk rock star. Wait, not so tiny anymore, she corrected to herself. "The trick is to not snore or bob your head about as you snooze. You know, the I'm-awake head jerk that never works. But you have your hat, that could shade your eyes if you tilt your head just right."

Martin took his hat off the coffee (tea, he corrected, tea not coffee) table where he'd put it while he tried on suits, and put it back on his head, adjusting it in the mirror to try and see if he could get that right tilt. He probably looked a little silly, tilting his head and his hat everywhich way. "But if I put the hat and the sunglasses it'd work twice as well?" As if that's how these things worked.

Frances worked really hard on not laughing at Flava-Flav in the mirror. "Don't over-do it, Kiddo. Now you really look like you've had too many dirty martinis and need no one to notice." Add a goatee and he'd be a young Tony Stark, sprawling in his chair and ignoring the meeting. "Yeah, no, skip the combo."

"Eww," he wrinkled his nose. "I'd have clean martinis. Why would you want dirty ones?" But he agreed, the combo would be too much. "Okay, you're not supposed to where hats inside anyway, so I'll just wear sunglasses for boring stuff if I want to sleep."

"Search me Pip, I'm not one for either gin or olive juice," she had to admit. "Which is what a dirty booze drink has, some kind of tomato and olive juice." She nodded when he pointed out the rules of hat etiquette indoors. Good for him to know, etiquette is a dying art. "Sunglasses before you enter the room or they'll see you put them on and know you're about to crash."

More nose wrinkling. "Why would anyone drink olive or tomato juice?" He wondered aloud, clearly disapproving of the juice choices.

But he made an effort to be polite and get his etiquette right, even if 'barging in by teleporting is rude' seemed to be a glaring blind spot in that knowledge set. But he'd been improving a tad at that! For select people at least. "Oh, I didn't think of that. It's a good thing I've got you to teach me this stuff, Dr. Strange doesn't cover it."
