Worlds Apart
Since arriving in this dimension Emily had found herself pulled all over the place. First into the conflict at SHIELD, then Nightingale's revelation and Anya's suspension, and Halloween....

For the first time today she felt that she had some time to sit down, breathe, and move ahead with two things she really needed to do.

Finding some work so she could feel productive and earn some money, and researching a little about what her family in this world was like.

The work part was rather difficult, really. Emily was used to having a reputation in translation circles - being fluent in as many languages as you were years old would do that - but here she was all but unknown and she had spent the morning sprawled in the living room on a borrowed mansion laptop firing off sample translation pages to about two dozen potential jobs.

The research - which she was now in the middle of - was easier and rather more interesting.

"Gamma radiation?" she muttered, sipping on her mug of tea. "Radiation shouldn't work like that..."

ooc: open thread for people to chitchat with Emily about her world and theirs and the differences and samenesses - a sort of 'get to know' you thread. feel free to ping in with anybody and to join existing 'conversations' with a character. :)

Sammy was passing through to Hydrobase. Her mother had made it clear that the only way she would consider letting her keep her clearance at S.H.I.E.L.D. was if she also began therapy with Doc Samson. It could have been worse, but since Dad and Dum Dum had also been brainwashed, Mom was in charge and Dad was agreeing with her. For all Sammy knew, Dad might be having a session or two himself with Samson.

She spotted Emily and paused to consider if she might interrupt her muttering. She was still a stranger to Sammy and they hadn't exactly met under ideal circumstances.

"Hello."

	James wandered in. He just finished school for the day and needed the daily required time playing video games. Something fun was required before he started his homework. 	"Oh it's just... weird. I looked up my dad in this universe and all SHEILD's information on him is so bizarre compared to my world back home." Emily shrugged, sipping her tea again. Emily shook her head.

"The Hulks in my world were changed by the seventh re-engineering of the super soldier serum that created Captain America in the 1940's." she explained, sifting through the files again with a flick of her finger.

"They called it the gamma serum. The initial unstable version made my mother into the first hulk, and then my father changed himself a few months later with a stabilized version, so his transformation between the two states is more controlled. I'm the only born Hulk in the world. It's just us three. Well and Archie but I don't know if he counts."

She smiled sheepishly. "Uhm, Archie is our dog."

	Sammy didn't bother telling James that Nick Fury had files more extensive than the ones Anya would have been able to access. It was poker strategy. You didn't let anybody know your hold card but let them think what they did know was all you had. "Pets always count," Sammy said with an encouraging smile. "They're part of the family." "Not quite. It's a magic thing from his mom's side of the family. Like a really specific set of spells he can cast on himself and people close to him. Speed up, slow down, or stop. And he's got an internal clock like a fine swiss watch."

Emily frowns seriously.

"God help you if he comes to your house and your DVD player flashes 12:00 cause you can't set it. That'll drive him bonkers."
