Cepheus was kind of nervous. James was away at practice and he'd decided it was time to become friends with Xavier again. Xavier had always been one of his best friends and he did love him. Xavier laughed, giving Cepheus a small smile. "I miss having someone to complain about their hair with," he said. He picked up his chopsticks, breaking them apart and then just playing with them.

"You know, I really want us to be able to be friends again, Phe," he said. "I know things aren't so great right now, but we've known each other for so long. And I... I don't know. Are you happy with James?"

"Happy with James?" Cepheus asked as he looked back at Xavier. He laughed softly and shook his head. "James and I aren't even dating. I just keep taking him to events and things because I don't have anyone else to take anymore. You should have seen my hair the other night. You would have hated it."

Xavier relaxed. "Good," he said. "That's good. I mean, I know I don't really have a right to have an opinion about your relationships, but I'd like to think that you have much better options on the table than that. He's such a playboy. You deserve better."

He ran a hand through his hair, feeling much better about this whole thing now that Cepheus didn't have a boyfriend. "I'm sure there are pictures of your hair for me to look at somewhere on the internet."

Xavier looked at his hand and then laughed. "Fuck, I let myself relax for a moment and I give away that I'm worried," he said, shaking his head. "I just want this to go well. It's too weird, not having you around. I don't like it."

He turned his hand, linking their fingers together. "I'm glad you and James are friends, but not boyfriends. There's this part of me that's still possessive over you, even though I have no right to be."

He squeezed Cepheus's hand. "And... even if I start dating someone else, you're always going to have part of my heart, Phe. I want you to know that. I know I didn't always make you feel as happy and secure and loved as you deserved, but I do love you and I always will."

Xavier wasn't expecting the kiss, but he wasn't going to pull away either. He leaned closer to Cepheus across the table, kissing him back. It felt good to kiss him again. Familiar. Even if this wasn't something they should have been doing.
