Scorpius was on the verge of a breakdown the entire trip from his and Albus's flat to Cepheus's place. The cab driver kept giving him worried looks. Scorpius wasn't even sure how he felt about everything. Guilty and miserable and humiliated, maybe, all twisted together in some demonic combination. Mostly he just hurt.

He overpaid the cab driver when they reached Cepheus's building and got himself into the lift before he started to cry again, but was still kind of holding it together. Maybe if he just repressed his emotions enough he wouldn't have a meltdown. Scorpius rubbed his eyes until he stopped crying, standing outside Cepheus's door, then knocked.

Cepheus had been in the middle of kissing James when he heard the knock on the door. He grumbled to himself and kissed him one more time before he pushed himself up from the couch and walked over to the door, wondering who could possibly be bothering him.

But, on the other side, his brother was standing there. And he looked so upset. He bit his bottom lip. "What's wrong? What happened?"

Scorpius stood where he was for a moment, not sure if he wanted to admit to the truth and make everything seem more real, but not telling Cepheus wasn't going to take back their fight. "Albus and I broke up," he said, breaking down for real, sobbing into his hands.

"He didn't -- I couldn't make him happy and I got home from Paris and he was so mad and upset and Kit was there and we... we broke up." Scorpius wiped at his face, looking up at his brother. "I love him so much, Phe."

James had been hoping it would just be Mormons or something at the door so Cepheus could tell them to fuck off and then come back to kiss some more, but this didn't seem like something that could be shooed away. He sighed, pulling his shirt back on and getting off the couch. "I'll pour you both a drink," he said.

Cepheus stared at his brother, then pulled him into the flat to wrap his arms around him. He held him there, petting at his hair, unable to imagine what kind of pain he was going through. But, he wanted to fix it. Because he loved his brother.

"I'm so sorry." Cepheus whispered as he held him close to his chest, letting out a soft sigh. "Do you want me to beat him up for you?"

Scorpius shook his head a little, clutching at Cepheus and pressing his face against his shoulder. "I just... I just want him to be happy," he said. "And I don't make him happy. Kit makes him happy."

He sobbed against Cepheus's shoulder. "It's not fair. I wanted him for so long and I only got him for a couple of weeks."

"It's going to be okay, Scorpi. I promise." Cepheus pet at his brother's hair and sighed, looking at James and giving him an apologetic look. "You can stay here with us until you want to leave. You can sleep in my room."

And he'd sleep with James. Or on the couch, if that made Cepheus uncomfortable. He pulled back to look at him. "Ice cream?"

Scorpius sniffed, wiping at his eyes. "Okay," he agreed. "Thank you. Ice cream would be good. I just... I just don't understand it. I don't understand why we broke up."

James made a face when Cepheus invited Scorpius to stay with them, but it wasn't like he could object without looking like a dick. His brother was the one who'd done this. He poured them each a couple fingers of whiskey, then went to the freezer to get the ice cream. "Sit," he said. "I'll bring it over."

Cepheus led his brother over to sit on the couch and smiled at him. "We have spumoni. I know how much you like it." He told him, then took the carton from James and held out one of the spoons to him.

"What did Albus say?" He asked. "You don't have to talk about it if you don't want to."

Scorpius took the spoon, but didn't dig in to the ice cream yet. He curled up on the couch and shook his head. "He said I was selfish and I didn't care about his feelings and I should have asked him to come with me on my trip even though he didn't want to come to my shows in London and he didn't want to be photographed with me. He missed our skype dates, but he said I was supposed to text him more because Kit always texted him and things were easier with Kit."

James brought the drinks over, pressing one into Scorpius's hands and then sat on the other side of Cepheus. "Albus is clingy," he said. "He's always sort of been that way."

"He is clingy. I mean, I can understand him getting upset about you not inviting him." Cepheus admitted as he looked at his brother. "I mean, James and I aren't dating, but he invited me to go along to his games next week."

He sighed softly. "But, I'm going to stay here with you. And we're going to have boy time."

Scorpius broke down again, putting the glass and the spoon down on the table. "It's all my fault," he said, shaking his head. "I got everything with him wrong. I messed it all up. I'm not good enough for him." He leaned against Cepheus, pressing his face against his brother's shoulder and letting out a shuddering breath. "I shouldn't have come back. I should have just stayed in New York."

James felt like pouting about Cepheus not coming on his trip with him, but now probably wasn't the time. "Should I... call you parents or something?" he asked.

James wasn't sure telling Scorpius he and Al were meant to be together was the best idea, but he nodded, getting to his feet after squeezing Cepheus's knee. "Okay, I'll call them. Hey, Scorpius, Al isn't the only fish in the sea. There's a whole ocean out there for you to look through to find someone who won't make you cry." He ruffled Scorpius's hair and then moved away to track down Cepheus's phone so he could call their sisters.

Scorpius sniffed, shifting a bit closer to Cepheus after James left. "I don't know, Phe," he said, voice soft. "Just because I've loved him for forever doesn't mean he has to ever love me back."

"How did you get over Xavier?" Scorpius asked, looking up at Cepheus. "I don't want to hurt anybody, Cepheus. I liked him. He was nice. But I don't want to just... I don't know. Date someone for a while to make me feel better."

He rubbed at his face. "Maybe I'll ask Lala when she comes over with Toni. I just feel awful right now. It wasn't this bad before. When we slept together and he left me. I didn't have as much time to build up my hope."

"Well. You don't have to date Rex. We could get you a hooker." Cepheus told him with a small, reassuring smile. "I think Lala has a thing for him anyway. Something about his baked goods."

He thought about Xavier. "For a while, Xavier and I weren't working out. I think I knew it was coming to an end. We ended up shagging a few days ago and it got out everything we felt for each other. And it was over. We agreed it was over."

"I'm sorry that you and Xavier broke up, but I'm glad you're over him. I want you to be happy too. I want you to be with someone who really loves you and not someone else."

James came back into the living room with a tin of Molly's biscuits. "I called your sisters. They said they'd come over." He set the biscuit tin down. "I thought you two might like this to go with your ice cream." He sat beside Cepheus again, touching his hand. "You want me to go out to get you anything?"

Cepheus glanced at James's hand on his for a moment, then shook his head. "I think we're okay for now. We should turn on a film that Scorpius likes." He told him, grabbing the remote and holding it out to James.

Rex didn't know why he'd come along with Antonia and Lavinia, but they had insisted. He was carrying a huge basket of his sweets and was thankful he didn't live far from Cepheus and James. "Are you sure I should be here?" He asked as Antonia knocked.

"Not at all," Lavinia said, shrugging. Rex was her first awesome friend and she didn't think lying was a good idea either. "But you have sweets and they're amazing so that'll be good."

"I'm guessing that's not a horror movie?" James asked, turning the telly on. He got to his feet when there was a knock on the door. "I think I have one of those makes-you-sad-on-purpose Nicholas Sparks movies on here if you want a good cry. You know how much I like Ryan Gosling." He opened the door and raised an eyebrow at the addition of the porn star with the basket of sweets, but stepped out of the way. "Cepheus and Scorpius were just talking about maybe watching a movie. Come in."

Rex stepped in and glanced at Scorpius on the couch. He gave him a warm smile and walked over to where he was. "I brought you this basket of sweets. I thought you could use them."

Cepheus arched a brow at that, then turned on a non-romantic movie for them to watch. "Are you sharing?" He asked, then stood up, walking over to Lavinia. "Smart, bringing the porn star. He'll need a rebound."

Scorpius looked up at Rex, surprised, and then watched Cepheus walk away. He wiped at his face, trying to make himself look more presentable. "I'm sorry," he said. "You don't need to be nice to me. I probably deserve this. I stood you up. But... thank you. The sweets look nice."

Lavinia frowned at Cepheus, even if he was her favourite. "His name is Rex," she said, shaking her head. "He's not a rebound. He's really nice, Phe. He really liked Scorpius." She sighed. "I knew Scorpius and Albus were going to break up. Albus didn't deserve him anyway. You can't not notice that someone's in love with you for five years and then turn into the perfect boyfriend." She looked at Antonia. "You're a girl. That's true, right?"

"It's okay, Scorpius. I understand why you did what you did." Rex smiled at him, then held out a chocolate chip muffin to him. "Come on. The best part of a break up is eating and getting fat. What are you watching?"

Antonia glanced at her sister. She was busy staring at James. "I'm sorry. What are we talking about?"

Cepheus frowned and punched his sister in the breast. "Stop looking at him like that. Anyway, I know he's nice and all that or you wouldn't talk to him. I defended him to our Dad's."

Scorpius hesitated for a moment, then took the muffin from Rex, tearing off a piece and popping it into his mouth. "Fashion week is over. I'm allowed to gain my five pounds back. This is really good. Thank you." He smiled at Rex, then looked at the television. "I have no idea. Phe chose it."

"Dads were a couple of bitches to him," Lavinia said, scowling. "I probably should have known better than to let him be my date for their stupid party, but I thought it would be nice to be there with someone for once."

James smiled when Cepheus punched Antonia's boob for him. Cepheus was so cute when he got violent. He wrapped an arm around the other boy's shoulders. "Well, I haven't spoken to him, but I do like his work," he said. "I'm James. I haven't really met you two before. Cepheus and I are going to have a house warming party eventually."

"It doesn't feel like it'll be okay," Scorpius told Rex, glancing at him when he took his hand. "I was in love with Albus for five years. He was the first person I kissed. Scorpius laughed a little at the kiss, taking another bite of his muffin. "I don't know," he said. "Phe broke up with his boyfriend recently too, and they were together a lot longer than me and Albus. Two years." He looked down at his muffin again. "He's probably not really ready for feelings yet. James is Albus's brother though. That's a bad idea, right?"

"Wikipedia. The site anyone can edit?" Lavinia gave Antonia an unimpressed look. "I can't believe you want to go to a public school. You need our college." She was not going to punch her sister's other tit when they were supposed to be mourning Scorpius's ill-fated relationship. Antonia was pretty. She could marry well and be happy with love instead of brains. "How are things with Jude?"

James kind of wanted to pout, but he and Cepheus were just friends who fooled around. It didn't matter that he had feelings for him. "Yeah, you're right. I'm sure it'll be fine. I'll instagram the hotel rooms so you can see what you're missing. It won't be much. We never get suites or anything."

Scorpius wasn't sure where he sat with the idea of revenge. Albus had made him feel horrible and worthless and unlovable though. He glanced at James again. "James is gorgeous," he agreed. "He's pretty nice though. Under his smugness."

"I don't need a boyfriend," Lavinia said, shrugging. "I can validate myself plenty of other ways. Besides, I don't need anything distracting me from getting top grades in my A-levels and I have friends." Friend and brother, but whatever.

Scorpius took another bite of the muffin and nodded. "Thanks," he said. "I should have treated you better. I'm glad you and Lala are friends. I'm glad you're here. It's different than talking to someone who knows everything about me and Albus. It's easier."

"Don't watch his videos! He's my friend," Lavinia said, frowning at Antonia. "Just because he's a boy and he likes girls too doesn't mean we have to be like that." She looked at Rex and Scorpius. "Besides, I think he fancies Scorpius." Even if she was a little resentful of that. She wanted Rex to be her thing.

James laughed. "I'm not going to apologise," he said. "I'm not looking at you any way. This is just my face. You know, you'll probably have to room with me while your brother's here."

Scorpius looked back at Lavinia and Antonia, who seemed like they were bickering, but that was pretty standard. "Do you like her?" he asked Rex. "I don't think she's a lesbian. She's just not very good with people unless she's getting something from them. She's a lot like our dad. Her biological one."

Lavinia looked at James took and snorted. "He's super gay and super into Phe, Toni," she said. "I guess looking never hurt anybody. At least if they start dating you'll be able to ogle him all you want."

"Good plan," Scorpius agreed, nodding. "Be careful with her. If you hurt her, our father will reign hell on you and he's pretty vicious when he has to be. James loved the pleading expression on Cepheus's face, but he was being mean. "Okay," he agreed, nodding and leaning in to kiss his neck. "I'll stop. But later I'm picking this up again. Your sister keeps checking me out. Does that cool you down?"
