To Callaway, Backdated
"Are you sure I can't talk to him?" Parker said, clutching his manuscript to his chest. The publishing company had sent it back with a rejection letter and this was the last one Parker was going to take sitting down. He hadn't ever thought of getting an agent to do this sort of thing. All he knew about the writing industry was that he wanted in and damn if these people didn't tell him why his work wasn't good enough to get published when things like Twilight were being printed.

"No, Mr. Reigh. Mr. Sanders is in a meeting right now and even if he wasn't, it isn't likely that he would be able to take your request. He's very busy. Please, resubmit your manuscript at a later time." The woman was used to dealing with desperate writers who had been recently rejected by the company. Parker grit his teeth together and could hardly keep from slamming the stack of papers and the deceptively blithe manila envelope in which they'd sent his rejection down on the desk. He stood there, refusing to leave and the receptionist looked up at him blankly, stubbornly as their stand off began.

"No, I never really thought that," Callaway replied as he held his beer in one hand, swirling the liquid around lightly in the bottle with a faint flick of his wrist. "My father and I don't exactly communicate all that well. We only speak on holidays and birthdays, and those conversations are the most awkward five minutes of both of our lives, I'm sure."

"You? Awkward? I think I'd like to see that actually." Parker thought it might even the playing field a little. He felt ridiculous next to Callaway, ungraceful, without social skills. It was kind of exhilerating though.

He ate some more spaghetti, comfortable with momentary silence. He liked the clink of silverware on the plates. "Do you really think if they read my book that they'd publish it?"

"It's a sad sight, really," Callaway replied with an amused grin as he wiped his mouth with a napkin. "I talk about the weather, and his old dog, and the weather some more."

He reached for his beer and took a swig, and like Parker, he found that he enjoyed the silence as well. It didn't at all feel awkward or strained, and that sort of comfort with a new person was rare.

"I do," he replied almost at once, and he turned his attention to the younger man's face. "It's very good, very well written. And I think it'd do quite well if they do publish it. I really think you should let me hand it off to Sanders so that he'll at least read it. So many good novels get overlooked, and I'd hate for that to happen to yours."

"If I let you do that, do you think it'll color the fact that I want to see you again? I mean, can you be sure I'm not just pretending to be completely interested in you because I think you won't give my book to Sanders unless I act like you have a chance?" There was something distantly playful about that. Anyone else might have taken it wrong, but Parker was starting to trust that Callaway wouldn't get too riled even if the things Parker said were sometimes harsh or stupid.

"Well, given the fact that you snatched it away from me and bolted out of the receptionist's office at the publishing company, no. You were obviously intent on finding your own way, but sometimes our own way are the oppurtunites that fall into our laps," Callaway replied with a warm smile. "And even if you were just acting like a chance, I'd let you just to spend more time with you."

"I don't think I've ever wanted to fuck someone as much as I want to fuck you." He watched Callaway's expression carefully. It wasn't exactly a seduction as it was the inability to keep himself from saying it. "So whatever that might mean, it probably doesn't mean I'm just using you to get a leg up in the publishing world. It'd be really great if you could give my book to Sanders."

Callaway was more than a little thrown by those words, but he was infinitely good at not letting surprise show when he didn't want it to. He wet his lips and took another drink of his beer before he set it down with a smile, and he got to his feet so that he could reach down and gently tug Parker up to his own.

"Then I will," he replied softly as he lifted a hand up to cup the side of Parker's face, and he allowed his thumb to graze along the edge of the boy's jaw before he dipped his head down to press a soft kiss to his mouth.

Parker leaned into the touch so easily. This wasn't the sort of random hookup he was used to. He wanted to convey to Callaway that this wasn't going to be meaningless to him. It only made sense. Parker always tried to let people know that he wasn't going to get attached; it stood to reason that he'd want to express it when he knew he was going to get hopelessly attached. Maybe he just wanted to warn the other. He was so entrenched in his own thoughts that he almost didn't kiss back. Fortunately, his body responded before his brain could catch up and he melted against the kiss.

After a couple of seconds, he pulled back just enough to mumble against Callaway's lips. "I think you're biting off more than you can chew."

The moment that Parker started to kiss back, Callaway lifted his other hand so that the younger man's face was cupped in between the both of them. He deepened the kiss and stepped closer to Parker, wanting more, and when he heard the murmur of the other man's words he smiled and moved to gently push Parker up against the wall.

"You have no idea how patient I can be," he murmured back.

He should have, but Parker took that as a challenge. Just how obnoxious could he be and still have Callaway's interest? He quirked a brow at the gentle push. "You can be much rougher with me than that," he said. It was always easier if they were rough, made it more about fucking than about connection. Parker would beg for violence if he had to, just so he could remove himself from the sweetness of the way Callaway was touching him right now.

But the softness was making him weak in the knees and he leaned back thankfully against the wall, drawing the older man into another kiss.

Callaway could be rough, and sometimes that was fun and enjoyable, but not tonight. He could sense that something bigger was at play, he just couldn't figure out what. But he was a man who went with intuition, and he wasn't going to stop tonight, even if Parker's words were tempting.

Falling easily into the kiss, he parted his lips and let his long fingers slip up into the younger man's hair. They curled around the soft strands as he deepened the kiss and pressed himself even closer to Parker, and his other hand fell to rest at the boy's hip.

Parker's hands went up against Callaway's chest, fisting into the fabric of his shirt. For a moment, he tried to get the man to respond, fighting against the delicacy with harsher movements. But when Callaway refused his tempestuous maneuvers, Parker yielded to him and the release was like letting go with tired arms, dropping a thousand feet into god knew what. But it was such a relief.

He whimpered a little bit when Callaway got closer and he slid his hands against the man's waist, wanting desperately to lock him in place so he couldn't pull back. Inch by inch, his fingertips crawled beneath Callaway's shirt, the pads of his fingers finally touching skin.

The desperation in Parker's touches only made Callaway want more from the younger man. He could tell that there were parts of Parker that were fragile and broken, some healed and some not, but he didn't mind. He wasn't scared of them, or that Parker might be too much to handle. In fact, he looked forward to having someone to help, to protect, and to maybe even love.

The moment he felt Parker's fingertips on his skin, he let out a breathy sigh into the kiss and he moved to pull Parker away from the wall. He picked the boy up with ease, using his arms to secure Parker's weight against the front of his chest so that the younger man's feet were dangling as he carried him towards his bedroom.

Letting out a surprised squeak at being picked up, Parker grinned and pressed his face against Callaway's chest. He didn't know the layout of the man's house all too well, but he could have guessed where they were headed and that was more than fine by him. He curled his toes, wiggled his feet, trusting Callaway not to let him go unexpectedly.

"Can I spend the night?" Because he knew he couldn't stand to because he knew he couldn't stand to be kicked out afterward if that's how it was going to go down.

Callaway smiled at the little squeak and dipped his head down to press the tip of his nose against the top of Parker's hair so that he could inhale the boy's scent. He faintly smelled of some sort of fruity shampoo, and Callaway tightened his grip on the boy as he slipped into his bedroom.

"I was hoping that you would," he replied before he set Parker down on the bed and he pressed another kiss to the corner of the young man's mouth.

As soon as he felt the bed beneath him, Parker tugged at Callaway's shirt, keeping him close. He angled his face so that the kiss was on the lips this time. He twisted his hand in the fabric, a slow motion clutch that was filled with twice the need any roughness could have conveyed.

Keeping his hand there, he leaned back, pulling Callaway down on top of him. "Good, because I want to stay."

Callaway smiled into the kiss, enjoying the need he felt pouring off of Parker. It was intoxicating to feel so important to someone, and not just anyone, but this someone. Callaway couldn't begin to explain why. He just felt completely taken by Parker.

"Then I guess you're staying," he murmured against Parker's lips before he rose up onto his knees so that he could work both of the younger man's shoes off, and then his socks. Callaway's own feet were all ready bare, and he settled back down ontop of Parker to kiss him again as he mumbled, "Has anyone ever told you how lovely you are?"

"Not anyone who I believed," he said honestly. "I haven't ever really done this with anyone so--nice--before." Maybe that was sad to some people, but Parker was glad for it now because it made Callaway all that much more unique. "I--kind of do this a lot." He frowned and shook his head. "I shouldn't have said that out loud. You think I'm a slut now. I am, but I don't want you to think that." He kissed Callaway to try and cover up his little faux pas. It was so difficult to actually care what someone thought of him.

Callaway suspected as much. Parker seemed like the type to seek temporary comfort in sexual contact, but then he probably hit the ground running afterwards. Callaway just hoped that wasn't the case this time, he wanted this one to stick around.

"I don't think that of you," he murmured against Parker's mouth. "You know, we don't have to do anything tonight. We could just lay here together, sleep next to one another."

Relieved at Callaway's words, Parker let his eyes flutter shut. "I don't even know how to handle you," he said with a breathless laugh. "It's scary as fuck. I feel like I'm walking off a cliff." Tumbling end over end.

He whimpered a little, thinking about not doing anything tonight. "But I want you," he said as if tonight might be his only chance to get what he wanted. How could he let himself get to this point with the same person twice?

"Sometimes falling can be freeing," Callaway said with a smile, "Free falling," he added with an amused little smile.

He lifted a hand and gently pushed Parker's hair away from his face, and he allowed the side of his thumb to brush back and forth against the younger man's cheekbone before he pressed another kiss to his mouth.

"Trust me, I want you too," he said softly against Parker's lips. "But you're worth the wait."

Parker took a deep breath and then exhaled it, trying to release his frustration. Callaway was right, but Parker wasn't very good at putting off his impulses.

Kissing him one more time, he wriggled out from underneath him, but kept his arms around him. He was going to have to calm down a little and Callaway's weight against was not helping that process. "Okay," he said with a nod. "I think I like this."

Everything about Parker was unique and adorable. Callaway smiled through the dim light as the boy got settled against him, and he kept an arm looped around Parker's waist.

"Do you want something to sleep in? You'll swim in it, but it'll be cute," he said softly.

"I definitely think that clothes would be a good idea." He couldn't get comfortable enough to sleep in his jeans and god forbid he be naked all night next to the most attractive man he'd ever met. He bit his bottom lip and peered at Callaway through the poor lighting. "Are you sure you don't just--want a blowjob or something? I mean, honestly Callaway, I'd do just about anything you wanted right now." He would need one more stop to put him down for the night and this last effort was one about control. If he could just get the other man under his thumb with sex, then maybe he wouldn't feel so alarmed by this situation and he could relegate the man into the category of 'just like everyone else.'

He pushed his lips in against Callaway's neck and made a little sound that was pure sex as he rubbed up against him, thigh slipping over to rest on the older man's hips. "Absolutely anything."

Callaway smiled faintly and closed his eyes as Parker pressed close to him. He sighed quietly before he gently to pull away so that he could get to his feet.

"You are very tempting," he grinned before he went over to snag some pajamas from one of his drawers. He grabbed a pair for himself as well and handed one pair to Parker. "Here ya go. I'm gonna go put the food away."
