Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
WHO; Charles Vaisey && Melanie Roberts. (A bit of Stewart Ackerley)
WHEN; Thursday Morning, after study hall.
WHERE; An empty classroom.
SUMMARY; Just a talk.
RATING; PG for now~
WARNINGS; Rambling? Gosh we're the people that ramble so much.
STATUS; In progress.

There was a small hole in Charlie’s robes, just near the cuff so he could put his finger on it and try to push through it even though it was obviously not big enough to do so and he wouldn’t want to tear it more. It was just one of his ticks that he’d have whenever she was around. He’d been vaguely scratching his quill against some parchment to prevent Professor Snape from telling him to get to work, the only problem was that he didn’t have any ink in front of him, and he didn’t feel like actually completing the façade by simply bending down to grab some from his book bag. Charlie shook his head as he thought how lazy he was, and took a hesitant look up across the room only to see Melanie talking animatedly with Stewart Ackerley. Charlie sighed once and gave Malcolm an elbow attempting to get his attention.

Once he did so he gave a nod over in Melanie’s direction, and then mouthed the word “today” and then went back to his time wasting motions of pointlessly moving his quill. He’d told Malcolm about what had happened, and how he’d been avoiding Melanie all week. Charlie had even gone so far to ask a few other Slytherins in the common room if he’d be missed at study hall. But that was complete nonsense, why on earth would he try to skip study hall only to be so close to her during Care of Magical Creatures? Charlie had grinned and bared the class reluctantly, striking up conversation with every other classmate than with her so he wouldn’t have the opportunity to talk to her or vice versa. He still couldn’t believe that she thought he was joking. Honestly he’d laid everything out for her in black and white and she still couldn’t believe him. The only one that stood to lose anything from that was Charlie, and he had. All week he’d had been acting oddly and when asked why Charlie would just claim that his classes had had him busy and he hadn’t had much sleep. Malcolm was most likely the only one that noticed- the only other boy in the sixth year Slytherin dorms that would notice that Charlie was always either sleeping or doing class work or at class. The last week had been bleak, but Charlie had come to a resolution and, after a run through as to what Malcolm thought, he was going to do it.

He’d just ask her for a word. It was almost too logical, actually. He’d explain that yes, indeed he did think of her in that manner, no, it wasn’t a joke, and then ask her something that would hurt badly but he’d need to hear. If he let this ridiculous hope go on he’d drive himself insane. He’d been thinking ultimately too much lately, and even though to anyone else he’d look like the model student his thoughts were somewhere else entirely. The second that she just said that the feeling was not mutual he could go on- only in theory of course. Charlie gave Malcolm a grimace of sorts as he looked once more at Melanie and waited.

His bag was ready to go for the second that they were excused. Charlie was certain that he had to do it today otherwise he’d never work up the nerve again. He gave Malcolm a semi-sarcastic thumbs up as he took a deep breath and walked to the doors of the Great Hall to wait for her. Once he saw the recognition on her face of seeing him his stomach went into the automatic knots that they knew so well from being around her. Determined not to lose his cool like the other day Charlie reminded himself to breathe and gave both Melanie and Ackerley a weak smile. The two had been at the back of the group of students rushing to get out of Study Hall, and for that Charlie was grateful.

As soon as she was close enough Charlie gave another awkward smile and held onto the strap of his bag for dear life. She wouldn’t say no, would she?

“Hello Melanie, Stewart,” he felt a small shiver as he turned towards Melanie but tried to not let it phase him, “Could I have a moment of you time?”

He turned and bit his lip as he started pacing back and forth though the classroom. Most of the unused desks had been shoved against the wall furthest from him, giving him some room to walk around, as if walking around would calm his nerves. It hurt just thinking about what he was about to say, but he had to say it. He closed his eyes, feeling like he was about to jump from a cliff. No, this was scarier.

He blinked a couple of seconds and then looked at Melanie, a significant distance was between them from the pacing he’d done. “Look, I just,” another breath, “I needed to tell you that I wasn’t joking when I said I fancied you. I honestly do, and I have for quite some time. It’s not easy to say,” Charlie rolled his eyes when he said this; of course it wasn’t easy to say, “but it’s true. That’s the reason why I kissed you. This isn’t a joke and this isn’t something just to see your reaction. I don’t even know how you could see this as a joke. I mean I’m the one putting myself out on the line.” Charlie stopped walking, and sighed before sitting on a desk near her and looking towards Melanie. “I—I wanted you to know all this, because I feel you needed to hear the truth, especially after the…” kiss. He had kissed her. Even if she told him that she loathed him, and that she never wanted to speak to him again, that one day would overshadow everything. Because despite the problems that had come of it, it was one of the best feelings in the world. Charlie paused and then looked up, making sure that his train of thought wasn’t ruined. There was only one other thing left he needed to say, after all. And it would painfully end whatever it was that they had. Who was he kidding, they were just friends, if even that.

Charlie stood up solemnly, and walked towards Melanie slowly, ready for the rejection, but also the closure. He’d said that he needed this, after all. He looked up, a sad smile on his face, and put his hands on Melanie’s shoulders. Hey, if this was going to hurt he might as well make it hurt as much as possible. He looked at her for a few seconds, and then swallowed once before continuing. “One of the main reasons I needed to talk to you is that I don’t think I’ll get over this—this foolish hope that you might like me too. I mean, you’ve made your opinion towards me quite obvious. But I still can’t get over this.” Charlie paused again and blinked. All he wanted to do was simply lean forward and kiss her again but that was out of the question. He could only inflict so much pain on himself. “So if you could do me the favour of just saying it. Saying that you don’t feel the same way. If you said it flat out, I would be able to get past this a bit easier, maybe. So, please?”

Charlie gave her a crooked smile, not wanting to take a breath. His heart braced itself for its end.
