Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
WHO; Melanie Roberts && Charles Vaisey
WHEN; Saturday afternoon.
WHERE; A moving staircase that's currently on the west side of the third floor! The Quidditch pitch later on.
SUMMARY; Quidditch honestly isn't that dangerous. The only logical thing seems to be a flying lesson.
RATING; PG, most likely?
WARNINGS; ♥ ♫
STATUS; In progress.

It could have been an inkblot, really. It was just a small thing, nothing too extravagant, but the second he’d hexed it private and placed his quill back in his bag, he felt a jolt through his stomach. Honestly, who drew hearts? Melanie did, but really, no one else. The whole thought that these journals had been devoid of scribbles was beyond him, after all, they were teenagers who were bored more than they had rights to be. But the heart was there. He’d written it. No dwelling on the past, right?

Charlie ruffled his hair and then let out a huff of air as he made his was up the second staircase, his Firebolt trailing behind him almost like a dog would. It was quite a sight, really. Some third years had taken to gawking back on the first flight of stairs, even though they weren’t relatively new; Firebolts were rare—one of the perks of being on the Slytherin Quidditch team. Charlie looked upward as he kept walking at a brisk rate, and opened up his journal again to see if Melanie had responded. It was odd how he would check this thing more than should be allowed, especially when he was expecting something from Melanie to pop up. He was just about to close it when he noticed that Melanie had responded back and without thought he stopped walking immediately. His broom bumped into him and a couple of Gryffindors gave him unpleasant looks as they walked past him. Charlie couldn’t help but smile and dug into his bag for his quill, glad to see that it still had ink it in. For all his boasting, walking and writing at the same time was rather hard, especially when the staircases were moving faster than he’d wanted them to.

You can't see me? Charlie nodded once before closing the journal quickly, smashing his quill in between the pages in his haste, and walking even faster. He looked around the third floor, before rushing past a group of girls hovering on one of the corridors. There was a small gasp as the Firebolt barely flew above their heads while it followed him. With a small sight of relief he saw Melanie on the staircase a couple of yards away from him, and walked forward quickly before it began to move again.

There was time to gain his composure, he would always try to, at least. Whenever Charlie was around Melanie he seemed to be more awkward than he usually was, which was saying something. Charlie smiled once and took a couple of large steps, holding on to the strap of his book bag, before coming to a halt and letting a smile come across his face.

“Of course you can’t see me, I’m right behind you.”

The initial scare of having someone sneak up on her had worn off quickly, her eyes returning to their normal size and her smile looking more genuine than queasy, so Melanie wondered why her heart was still beating as though it wanted to jump off her chest. She reckoned Charlie had something to do with it and she shrugged it off, not giving it too much thought. At least it was her heart acting crazy and not her stomach, which just last month had taken to doing cartwheels and jumping jacks, all at the same time, every time Charlie was around. And had it really been a whole month already? The thought didn't help slowing her heart, but it did widen her smile.

"No, no. Hm, that's not it," Melanie said in mock seriousness while busying herself with her journal and bag. "No, I could've--" The rest of her reply got lost along with Charlie's in the rough noise. True to her previous words, it took her all of three seconds to register what was happening and by the time she stood up, the staircase had already moved a few inches away from the landing. Melanie really wanted to laugh, because now Charlie had to walk all the way to wherever the staircase landed next to get to her. Or, well, that would have been the sensible thing to do, but since when did he do anything sensible? She watched with wide eyes as Charlie took the risk to jump over the gap. The gap wasn't too wide, really, but a simple slip would've had him falling down three floors. And crashing. And dying, most likely, because she doubted Madam Pomfrey had any remedy for death by stupidity. And, sweet mother of Merlin, the nerve of him!

"CHARLES VAISEY, ARE YOU INSANE!?" She all but screeched, ignoring his casual comment, before sitting down again and taking a deep breath, trying to calm herself. He was okay, he didn't die. He could've died, like Stewart and Garrick could've died that morning, but he didn't and it was okay and she should stop worrying so much about it because everyone's bound to die some day. Eventually. Yeah. "Of course you're insane, everyone's insane and you're all going to kill me one of these days," she kept muttering to herself as she waited for the staircase to stop moving to get off of it, trying to avoid looking at Charlie. She wasn't mad, but looking at him at that moment would make her want to either hug him to death or push him off the staircase herself, which would result in his death either way and she really, really didn't want him to die. So she waited and avoided looking at him and that's when she noticed the Firebolt hovering over them. So much for avoiding him. "Uh, Charlie? Why is there a broom following us?"
