Cepheus was always so miserable when he was bored. He'd read through all his comic books and he'd played through a few games. And then he'd listened to all his Queen and Adam Lambert albus. He really needed something to do. He grumbled and rolled around on his bed for a moment, then pushed himself up and walked into his brother's room.

"We need to find something to do." He informed his brother. "Or I'm literally going to die of boredom. And that's a shitty way to go."

	Cepheus arched a brow at his brother. This was going to be fun, especially if his brother didn't want him to tell anyone. "It's not bad," Scorpius said. "Not really. Just..." He wasn't sure he should tell Cepheus now. He looked like he was thinking about running off and telling as soon as Scorpius offered a suggestion.

"I've been reading ahead in Ancient Runes. I think I can get rid of the spells Bill put up to stop people going in the wing we're not allowed in," he said. "I've always been curious about what's back there."

"It's not," Scorpius said. "I just want to see if I can break the wards Bill put up. I think I can." He eyed his brother for a moment. If Cepheus was excited, he probably woulnd't tell. This seemed to appeal to his Gryffindor sensibilities.

Scorpius got off the bed, bringing his textbook with him. "Let's go. As long as you stay quiet when I need to concentrate this will be fine."

	"It might be dangerous," Scorpius said, willing to give their father the benefit of the doubt. "The manor's very old. I just don't know why they wouldn't do something to fix it if that was the problem. We have enough money." He looked around the hall to make sure there were no elves about either. "Nothing dangerous," Scorpius said, opening his textbook and then tapping his temple so the runes showed up when he looked at them. "It's just like... alarm spells and wards and a couple to make you not want to keep trying to break in. They're not very strong. It just makes it so you can't get in without taking them down."

He looked in his textbook again, then made a few motions with his wand, taking the alarm spells down and smiling to himself when they folded away easily. "Bill probably didn't expect anyone to try that hard to break in."

	"He probably thought we are good kids. He's clearly wrong." Cepheus pointed out as he leaned against the wall. He had no clue what his brother was doing. He didn't take runes. "Dunno," Scorpius said, banishing the spells that encouraged you to leave the wing alone. "You're supposed to be quiet while I take them down. I'm doing the wards now."

Obviously, Ancient Runes wasn't a useless class. It meant Scorpius got to break them in. In a few more minutes, the wards were down and he shut his textbook, grinning to himself. "Try opening the doors."

Cepheus still had some Slytherin tendencies. The last thing he wanted to do was get shocked or something by trying to open the doors. But, he was in fact a Gryffindor. And that meant he would stupidly try.

He grabbed the door handle, wincing in fear that he would be shocked, but nothing happened. He looked around the hallway for a moment, then opened the door to the rooms behind it. "I... Wow."

Scorpius's grin widened when nothing happened to Cepheus. He couldn't believe he'd managed to take the wards off that quickly. He hurried behind his brother, looking into the rooms and then pushing him forward. "Let's go explore," he said.

He glanced around. "I don't see anything that looks dangerous, do you?" Scorpius glanced over his shoulder at Cepheus. "Close the door so they don't suspect anything."

	"No. This room looks completely normal. I don't think anything is wrong." Cepheus glanced around and then moved towards the desk in the room. He picked up some papers and read over them. He paused. 	"Lucius," Scorpius said, looking over the books on the shelf. "His name is on the family tree in the library, and I've heard Grandma mention him once or twice." 	"Really?" They didn't have many pictures of their grandfather. One or two, in old albums, but nothing on display. Scorpius had always thought it was because there weren't any. He put down the book he was looking at and walked over to Cepheus, looking down at the photograph. "Dad looks miserable, doesn't he? Moody. Lucius looks really old-fashioned." "They've never really talked much about him. I guess I kind of assumed he'd look like this because of that." Cepheus replied, looking his brother over. "Like not knowing about him makes him seem more ancient or something. I don't know."

He pushed over some more of the papers and found another picture laying loosely. He picked it up and arched a brow. "Is that Mum with him?"

Scorpius looked at the picture. "I -- yeah, it is," he said. "She doesn't look especially happy either. I guess we know why they don't talk about him much. They don't like him."

He picked up some of the papers on the desk, looking them over. "I'm not looking forward to having to do all this banking, are you? No wonder Dad's a solicitor." Scorpius wanted to be a curse-breaker and forget about all the Malfoy stuff.

"I'm sure he does," Scorpius agreed. "Even if he doesn't want to force us to get married to someone or any of that. Victoire seems to think I'm going to have to do it, since I'm the oldest." He made a face, then looked at the draped thing Cepheus was staring at.

"I don't know," he said, stepping forward. He grabbed the edge of the drape and tugged, pulling it off the frame and jumping a little when there was a face there, frozen. A disturbingly still portrait. "That's... It's our grandfather, right?" He glanced at Cepheus, then leaned closer to the painting, frowning. "I think Bill put something on it too."

"Spell, I think," Scorpius said, getting his wand out again. "Let's not talk about how Victoire wants to marry me. I love her, but not like that. We're just friends, and I know Mum and Dad are happy, but it's not... I'd rather just be with who I want to be with."

He tapped his temple again and grinned when the runes showed up. "It's some kind of stasis spell to freeze the picture. Should I take it off?"
