From someone who's living the same situation, here are a couple of things:
1. Don't expect a warm welcome from everyone who "should" or does love you back home. Even if they're decent to you, they aren't the people you know, and don't have the benefit of knowing you outright.
2. DO try to build bridges. If you end up with a kid sister, or a semi-cousin, build those bridges. If your mother passed away back home, but is alive here, get to know her.
3. Look. At. Everything. Especially if where you come from is a hellhole compared to where you are now.
4. Get to know people outside your "family" and "friends". Find people who don't know you as "that guy from the other dimension". It'll help you settle in.
5. Make your own way. It's good to accept help, but show people that you didn't come here to freeload or that you don't think you're entitled to things just because you technically share DNA.
6. If you can go home, work on that. If you can't, live the new life you've got and try to move past whatever you lost in your old world.
