So. I've pretty much come to terms with being stuck in an alternate dimension.
I was wondering if anyone had any words of advice about adapting to such situations?
Do's and Don'ts?
Unwritten Rules?
Funny Experiences of your own?
Heck, what's the craziest thing you've found in an alternate universe?
Anything's helpful even if you're only planning for a 'what if I end up in another dimension?'

Oh, alternate universes are great! I'm hoping I'll get an alternate universe version of me eventually.

Because meeting a new version of myself will be so much fun!

I dunno...I heard stories about alternate universe selves being evil and trying to kill the people they meet.
Doesn't that concern you?

Oh, yes, the evil twin brother alternate self! Wow! That'd also be fun! Think of the mischief he'd cause for me, and the fun it would be to resolve it all!

Sure it would! What if they brought me a lightsaber?

From someone who's living the same situation, here are a couple of things:

1. Don't expect a warm welcome from everyone who "should" or does love you back home. Even if they're decent to you, they aren't the people you know, and don't have the benefit of knowing you outright.

2. DO try to build bridges. If you end up with a kid sister, or a semi-cousin, build those bridges. If your mother passed away back home, but is alive here, get to know her.

3. Look. At. Everything. Especially if where you come from is a hellhole compared to where you are now.

4. Get to know people outside your "family" and "friends". Find people who don't know you as "that guy from the other dimension". It'll help you settle in.

5. Make your own way. It's good to accept help, but show people that you didn't come here to freeload or that you don't think you're entitled to things just because you technically share DNA.

6. If you can go home, work on that. If you can't, live the new life you've got and try to move past whatever you lost in your old world.

My situation is probably different from that of most people, since I'm not stuck in one, but in a possibly endless loop of them, but maybe some of it will still apply.
Don't assume anything about anyone. People can fill drastically different roles, be better or worse than the versions you know, or polar opposites. Try and get reliable news or other information, figure out who you can trust, and get as much genuinely useful information as quickly as you can.

Figure out how comfortable you are or aren't with family. Its amazing how quickly some people take an especial interest in their other-worldly relations, but it can be awkward on all sides.

Guard your emotions and know yourself. In alien situations, people get lonely or feel out of their depth quick. For some people, having friends and support can help you adapt. But if you go back, how easy is it going to be to say goodbye? If you even get the chance.

Funny... well, hopping dimensions with my other-dimensional grandmother, my other-dimensional cousin, and my other-dimensional sort-of-uncle when none of them are from the same dimension as each other made for quite the coincidence... and kind of weird sorting it all out.

Craziest thing in another universe falls between a dimension where Mysterio was Sorceror Supreme and the dimension where we helped a rock band called KISS battle Dr. Doom for the power of rock.

Mostly, be ready for anything. If you find people you can trust to watch your back, help them out. When in unfamiliar surroundings, someone you can work with is incredibly valuable.

As someone with a cross-dimensional sister, I do suggest that you try to talk to the people you're "related" to. It's important, for everyone.

Good idea. Now it's just a matter of finding them all...and learning who they all are.

The pizza so far is great in both worlds.
Haven't touched any tacos yet.

I've never been to another universe myself, but dad's told me stories, both being a visitor to other worlds and times, and hanging out with people from other places and times. He says it's easy to forget you're not where you actually are from, and that makes it all the tougher when you remember again.

I don't have too much experience with this type of thing but I would recommend not getting into a fight with Conan.

1. Keep your eyes open and listen.
2. Don't make assumptions or think you know a person. Every version is different.
3. Ultron is bad in any dimension.
4. Not funny, but I met an awesome girl.
5. Family. I got a lot of it and they're all insane.

Get used to the fact that "Mom and Dad" may not be exactly the same as you know them. While Dad may come pretty close, Mom could be completely different.

Yeah. They're not even a couple here. Younger too...come to think of it...I've heard about Dad but no one's told me about Mom...she may not even exist here. Man...

So far? It's all completely wretched. Maybe billions dead. Can't go home, because it's been turned into an alternate reality itself, and there are hundreds of millions dead. The only thing kinda funny is the six-year-old who magically aged a decade.

I have occasional hopes that any minute, I'll wake up to my stepfather yelling at me that I've been burning the wrong chemicals.
