My situation is probably different from that of most people, since I'm not stuck in one, but in a possibly endless loop of them, but maybe some of it will still apply.
Don't assume anything about anyone. People can fill drastically different roles, be better or worse than the versions you know, or polar opposites. Try and get reliable news or other information, figure out who you can trust, and get as much genuinely useful information as quickly as you can.
Figure out how comfortable you are or aren't with family. Its amazing how quickly some people take an especial interest in their other-worldly relations, but it can be awkward on all sides.
Guard your emotions and know yourself. In alien situations, people get lonely or feel out of their depth quick. For some people, having friends and support can help you adapt. But if you go back, how easy is it going to be to say goodbye? If you even get the chance.
Funny... well, hopping dimensions with my other-dimensional grandmother, my other-dimensional cousin, and my other-dimensional sort-of-uncle when none of them are from the same dimension as each other made for quite the coincidence... and kind of weird sorting it all out.
Craziest thing in another universe falls between a dimension where Mysterio was Sorceror Supreme and the dimension where we helped a rock band called KISS battle Dr. Doom for the power of rock.
Mostly, be ready for anything. If you find people you can trust to watch your back, help them out. When in unfamiliar surroundings, someone you can work with is incredibly valuable.
