Names
They story goes that names -- their meanings, their personal significance in a family -- can end up having influence on a person. What do you think?

Couldn't say, myself. If I'd been a boy, Mom wanted to name me after my grandfather, Vernon Van Dyne. Dad just wanted 'Something French.' So they went with Vernique. French and before that Greek for Bringer of Victory. Same etymology as the name Bernice, so some would say I lucked out in that I didn't end up named Bernie.

I certainly like it.

Mom named me after the patron saint of childbirth (the ultrasounds had really scared her, so there had been praying), who has some very pretty shrines in Italy.

Dad says it's after Sylvia Avery, a featured character in a ridiculous Dr. Hook song covered by Bon Jovi.

As the name means forest, and there's no way to become one, I'll either have to be a saint or get a silly song written about me to live up to it.
