Names
They story goes that names -- their meanings, their personal significance in a family -- can end up having influence on a person. What do you think?

Couldn't say, myself. If I'd been a boy, Mom wanted to name me after my grandfather, Vernon Van Dyne. Dad just wanted 'Something French.' So they went with Vernique. French and before that Greek for Bringer of Victory. Same etymology as the name Bernice, so some would say I lucked out in that I didn't end up named Bernie.

I certainly like it.

	Mummy named most of us after family. Me after Granny, Danielle after Danielle Moonstar. And she's the one who's going to be a healer. Funny how that goes. But they're both fine names for fine people, and we're very proud to carry them. (Reply to this)

	I don't know. I don't know where Anya came from outside of being the Russian form of Anna. The rest of my name is pretty self explanatory. Antonovna is the Russian feminine of Anthony. Traditionally Russians use the father's name for the second name. (Reply to this)(Thread)

	Dad named me but he doesn’t remember doing it apparently he hadn’t slept in a week at that point, something about dealing with a pregnant wife, a newborn baby, and other important commitments, but Cian means ancient. Though my middle name is after grandpa Marc. (Reply to this)

	My first name actually comes from my father's good friend Justin Hammer. This was before I got to this dimension and found out what kind of person Justin Hammer was. 	My name is actually horribly mispronounced from what I hear, but I've learned to live with being called "Johnny", though I hate it. Meanwhile, my nickname "Joey" was an offhand comment my old man made when talking about me. He'd always ask Aunt Jenna "How's the joey"? It stuck. (Reply to this)(Thread)

	Giovanna's the Italian form of Jeanne. I was born on the feast day of Jeanne D'Arc. My parents had a certain fondness for her story (Father thinks she was probably a mutant). Here's hoping I can live up to the 'good soldier' part and not the 'getting executed' part. (Reply to this)

	It was a related name to my grandmother's that would 'sound a little better on an American playground. Nothing to do with the ridiculously overprotected and manipulated daughter in Shakespeare, my dad assures me. But it means 'admirable' and, well, I try. ::grins:: (Reply to this)
