Names
They story goes that names -- their meanings, their personal significance in a family -- can end up having influence on a person. What do you think?

Couldn't say, myself. If I'd been a boy, Mom wanted to name me after my grandfather, Vernon Van Dyne. Dad just wanted 'Something French.' So they went with Vernique. French and before that Greek for Bringer of Victory. Same etymology as the name Bernice, so some would say I lucked out in that I didn't end up named Bernie.

I certainly like it.

Mummy named most of us after family. Me after Granny, Danielle after Danielle Moonstar. And she's the one who's going to be a healer. Funny how that goes. But they're both fine names for fine people, and we're very proud to carry them.

I guess maybe it could? I don't know. I'm named after my grandmother. My middle name's Heather after Miss Hudson. I'm not all that much like either of them.

For family names on my mom’s side there was Peter but that doesn’t sound very good with Spector. On Dad’s side there was Randall my dad’s brother but he was insane and almost killed Mom with a hatchet like Dad’s girlfriend in the CIA and Elias was Grandpa Spector’s name but Dad hated him and Mom’s not mean enough to do that to me. So Mom found my name in a baby book and though it sounded really good with Spector so that’s how I got my name.

I don't know. I don't know where Anya came from outside of being the Russian form of Anna. The rest of my name is pretty self explanatory. Antonovna is the Russian feminine of Anthony. Traditionally Russians use the father's name for the second name.

And Anna, if I remember, means 'Gracious'. Least there's nothing embarrassing here.

I think In my case I influenced the name, since all I've got is Leech. And sometimes I steal the last name Maddicks from my brother.

Dad named me but he doesn’t remember doing it apparently he hadn’t slept in a week at that point, something about dealing with a pregnant wife, a newborn baby, and other important commitments, but Cian means ancient. Though my middle name is after grandpa Marc.

My first name actually comes from my father's good friend Justin Hammer. This was before I got to this dimension and found out what kind of person Justin Hammer was.

My middle name, of course, comes from my Uncle Tony. Also before I got to this dimension and saw how different things were.

Mom named me after the patron saint of childbirth (the ultrasounds had really scared her, so there had been praying), who has some very pretty shrines in Italy.

Dad says it's after Sylvia Avery, a featured character in a ridiculous Dr. Hook song covered by Bon Jovi.

As the name means forest, and there's no way to become one, I'll either have to be a saint or get a silly song written about me to live up to it.

My name is actually horribly mispronounced from what I hear, but I've learned to live with being called "Johnny", though I hate it.

Meanwhile, my nickname "Joey" was an offhand comment my old man made when talking about me. He'd always ask Aunt Jenna "How's the joey"?

It stuck.

I prefer the name I was given by my adopted parents, as I hate my real name passionately.

Especially since Dracula loves calling me by it to piss me off.

Giovanna's the Italian form of Jeanne. I was born on the feast day of Jeanne D'Arc. My parents had a certain fondness for her story (Father thinks she was probably a mutant).

Here's hoping I can live up to the 'good soldier' part and not the 'getting executed' part.

It was a related name to my grandmother's that would 'sound a little better on an American playground.

Nothing to do with the ridiculously overprotected and manipulated daughter in Shakespeare, my dad assures me.

But it means 'admirable' and, well, I try. ::grins::
