What's the payoff for kids following in their parents' footsteps? If you have a talent, why not make it work for you instead of them?

I know I don't want to follow in my parents' footsteps.

I've been hanging around the fringes watching and all I see are do-gooders kids doing just what they're told to become more do-gooders.

My parents aren't what most people would call do-gooders, so yeah...not really itching to be just like them....

I can see that. It has to be a choice.

The payoff for me is running a multi-billion dollar international company. And kicking ass on the side.

So you picked it, it didn't pick you because your parents think you should follow their plans?

I picked it. Though I think my parents would have preferred me doing other things.

"Depends on the circumstance. Dad'd love it if I'd gone into business with him, but he knows I like Mom's style of separating business from let's face it, volunteer work, better."

It's your choice, right? Parents with a mission seem to be pretty heavy-handed when it comes to what their kids are doing.

I'm sure some are. But even Mom'd take it fine if I decided I didn't want to As it is, there's some aspects of following in Mom's footsteps she doesn't want to let me do fast enough.

Well...sometimes a boy just wants to be close to his Da, you know? I mean, I assume it's true with girls, too.

I don't know about other girls. My dad is mostly rumor but I hear he made an impression around here once.

Never met mine until I was 19, but I still had him on the brain a bit when I was wee.

Where I'm from, everyone has to help out, and this was one of my talents. I learned a lot from my old man and my uncle, so I honor them with what I can do.
