Out of curiosity, who here has to get, or has had to get, psychiatric treatment?

...It can't be just me, right?

It was suggested a couple times back in elementary school, but that was more along the lines of misunderstandings and cultural differences than anything else. I mean, back in New Morlaidh, anyone who isn't deathly afraid of ants is basically a dead man walking.

Well, that'd be a bit of trouble in America, I can see.

My phobia's generally the least of Mum's worries.

Yeah, a bit. I think it was less the ant fear and more the part where I pulled all the alarms and hysterically locked myself in the principal's office until they called my dad.

Oh. Aye, I can see how that'd be.

...What's your dad like, then?

Ants in the Amazon rain forest are very serious business. Especially when your people don't usually get more than six inches tall.

Dad's...one of those people who can somehow manage to be both a brilliant scientist and a warrior-king. Tough to live up to, but pretty cool.

What about your mum?

I'd bet. My sister's got a friend from the Amazon. Some of the wildlife's just creepy as is, so I can imagine it's a lot to deal with when you're that wee.

Now that's impressive! Mum's definitely more on the brilliance, less on the warrior, although she's a good shot.

Oh yeah. If they've told you about the foot long spiders that hunt birds right out of the air? They really aren't exaggerating.

It gets pretty interesting around the house, I can tell you that much. Does your mum prefer bows and arrows or guns?

I could have gone the rest of my life thinking that was a joke.

Guns, though I think she arched in school. Not the biggest fan of guns myself, though I know how pretty well. I'm guessing yours is into bows?

Of course, Mum's preferred traditional use of a gun is as an accessory for the 'get off my property and leave my tenants alone' lecture. She takes being a good landlady very seriously.

My homeland is second only to Australia and supervillain lairs for places on Earth where everything wants to kill you.

Yeah, the weaponry in New Morlaidh doesn't get very far beyond poison-tipped arrows and the occasional siege weapon.

Sensible choice. And good for her! I imagine her tenants are very pleased to have her looking out for them.
