DIAGON ALLEY, EARTHQUAKE
"And you know what? There is not a sale worth going out in this heat, I'm serious!"

Javier grinned, putting up his hands in a defensive manner, "I'm sorry, but I don't need a pair of robes that badly, have you seen those temperatures? I'm surprised Fortescue's is still standing, would've thought they'd have melted awaaaaaay----whoa, what is---"

He gripped onto the desk, eyes widening as he rumbled and rolled away because the fucking building was shaking! Javier let out numerous words that were not politically correct to say on the wireless, and toppled out of his chair, busting his head on the floor. Strings of angry Spanish soared out of his mouth as he crawled up to his knees, and Javier grabbed the microphone.

Through the glass he saw that the other members of his staff were looking like they'd just been shot, and it took Javier a few good seconds to realize what the fuck happened, as another rumbling, rolling coursed through the studio. Javier dropped to the ground, covering his head with his hand as he shouted angrily into the microphone:

"ARE WE EXPERIENCING A FUCKING EARTHQUAKE IN DIAGON ALLEY?"

Jonas's vision was blurred when he came to. All he could hear was the shrill, fuzzy ringing in his ears and beat of his heart. He couldn't smell right away and it hurt to breathe -- it really, really bloody hurt to breathe. His mind was sluggish but he knew he had to move. Jonas's forearms scraped against the concrete of the patio as he attempted to get roll to his knees, but failed. His dazed brown eyes cast around a slow and ill-aimed glance to see a piece of heavy steel pinning him to the ground. It was something like an out-of-body experience as he kicked and shoved himself outh from beneath the scaffolding. His arms were scratched and his jeans were ripped at the knee, but at least he was free and was immediately snapped back into the world of mass panic.

There was screeching and calls for help coming from every direction and that sent pangs of worry straight through Jonas's chest. He could hardly believe this was happening. He glanced up at the ice cream parlor as he climbed to his feet. It was miraculously mostly-intact -- albeit a tad wrecked on the inside. He looked around to his band-mates rousing from their spots and helping each other to their feet. He called out to them anyway and was waved off.

Oh, Zeus! There was still Kobe! Their one fan. The Florean's sign had come careening for them both and he was praying that she'd managed to scrabble away. He heard her shout. His heart broke and his breath hitched when he saw her blond hair peeking out from beneath wreckage. Putting a had to the screaming pain in his side, Jonas tensed his jaw and dizzily went to her. "Kobe?" he called out as he lowered himself down to get a better look at her. He swallowed in worry when he saw exactly how resolutely she was pinned.

Standing once more, he futilely pushed at the heavy sign that refused to move. Oh, for the love of... "It's not budging!," he sadly announced before kneeling down to her again. "Can you move at all? How badly are you hurt?"

Kobe was naturally bad at hiding the emotions off her face, so when Jonas let out his question, her eyes shot to him as if she was hoping the killing curse would shoot out and strike him dead. How badly was she hurt! She was about to be cut in half, she was very badly hurt. But Kobe couldn't even think to respond with a sarcastic remark, and just rolled her head back away on the cement to stare up at the perfectly blue sky. Disasters like this should not happen on beautiful days.

"I can't feel my legs," she admitted, her flash of anger at Jonas' stupid question dissipating immediately as her eyes filled with tears. She'd noticed it before, but she hadn't really thought about it and---what did that mean? Was it---for right now, or was it---what if she couldn't walk after this? Kobe didn't know if she'd rather die than be paralyzed, but then she smacked the thought out of her head and---she supposed she could get around, but she didn't want to not walk---

"Oh God," she let out, pushing her hands to her face. The tears, the realization that she may never walk again, the pain--it was making her head throb. Kobe let out a low hum full of pain and kept her face away from Jonas. After everything that had just happened, she really did not want to die under the gaze of her favorite musician. That was just unnecessarily tragic.

Jonas flinched when she glared at him. Maybe he should just stop talking and save them all the trouble of his idiotic comments. He was trying to stay calm, but his panic was fluttering out of control. So out of control that he'd momentarily forgotten that he was a wizard.

Your wand, your wand, your wand!

He hastily reached around to his back pocket. A helpless grimace crossed his face when he proffered a splintered bit of wood that was no longer than the width of his palm. Jonas tossed away the wand remnants when Kobe went into hysterics.

She couldn't feel her legs. Oh, this was bad.

Jonas slid from sitting on his haunches to drop his knees to the pavement. Swallowing over the knot of fear in his throat, he reached out to stay her squirming, but stopped short of touching her. He looked around wildly in attempt to think of something -- some sort of plan to help her.

Well, his other mates were there and maybe, the two of them would be skilled enough to levitate the sign off of her?

Climbing onto to shaky but determined legs, Jonas called out to the drummer -- only to learn that their bassist had buggered off. Brilliant. The drummer pulled out his wand, but his attempts to lift the sign just jostled things around a bit. Kobe's cries made Jonas feel sick and he waved off the drummer.

"Just -- just go to Mungo's," he stammered. "Get a mediwizard. I'll stay with her."

The drummer was gone and Jonas timidly knelt down next to her once more. "Kobe," he tried gently as he reached out and seized her arms. "I--I--" he forgot his words at the sight of blood in her hair. He drew in a sharp breath. "I'm sorry. I don't think there's anything I can do until Philip comes back."

There wasn't even a cloud in the sky for her to focus on. No funny shapes for her mind to obsess with, and not even a bird had fluttered across her line of vision in all the time she'd been lying back. Kobe's tears had stopped and her breathing had returned to somewhat normal, maybe even slower than normal. It didn't feel good, exactly, but it was definitely putting her to sleep. It was the kind of breathing you took on when you got sick, and each breath felt like it was pushing you further and further into the sleep you desired.

Kobe's face had paled greatly, it was almost like she could feel the blood rushing out of her. She blinked slowly, her eyes shutting for a long moment before they opened up and looked over at Jonas' worried face. Merlin, he was cute. That thought was overwhelming in her foggy mind, and the bright spot of 'at least you'll die looking into that man's eyes' sparkled in front of her.

"S'alright," she slurred, her arms hanging loosely in his grip. "I'm tired, s'okay."

"No, no, no," Jonas desperately sputtered and he released her arms which limply fell. He leaned down closer to look underneath the sign. His face blanched -- as far as he could tell, the debris had flattened her middle until it was out of sight. If fear wasn't strangling him, he doubt he could have held back the sudden urge to vomit.

Looking back to Kobe, he saw her eyes slipping closed. She was ghostly pale. Jonas cupped her face with one hand. "Kobe," he tried but got no response. He put a second hand to her face and gave her a gentle squeeze. "Kobe," he said, louder than before. "I--" he began and glanced around him. People were darting this way and that while others cried out for help -- no one was going to stop to help them.

"Kobe, I'm going to go grab the journal and see if WWN has said anything, okay? Just please, please stay awake!"

Jonas wiped her brow clean and ran the back of his hand over her clammy cheek before he reluctantly scrambled away to go find his journal and hopefully, some good or helpful news.

Stay awake! Jonas Ackerly was telling her to stay awake. Well, then. She should probably stay awake. It would do her no good to not listen to him! He'd never want to talk to her again if she went and disobeyed and all that rot. Stay awake. Mmm, that was proving harder than she thought it would, but Kobe took in a deep breath and started singing the only song that she could recall at the moment.

"Hogwarts, Hogwarts----Hoggy, Warty--Hogwarts---"

Why was she having flashes of the boarding school right now? Kobe had been such a dismal student, and angst-ridden the entire time because she felt as if she didn't belong there. She wasn't any good at any of her subjects, she couldn't make friends as easily as her roommates had, and all she had going for her was the fact that she was the little sister of a rock star. And she was apparently a very good snogger.

Oh, great. Her lasting memory on her peers was that she was a complete and total tart. Lovely.

"...just do your best...we'll do the rest," Kobe heard the sound of footsteps pounding toward her as she finished the song. Ooh, see. She'd stayed awake, "...and learn until our brains all rot..."

Jonas skidded on the crumbled pavement and fell on his arse when he reached the guitar case he was looking for. He cried out at the dizzying jab of pain it sent to his aching ribs, but he hugged his chest and crawled anyway. He reached into the case and licked his lips as he tugged the journal free. Jonas dumbly stared at it's unmarred cover before hastily flipping through until he found an entry from the WWN.

"--experiencing an earthquake in Diagon Alley--"

Jonas breathed out a swear and scanned quickly through the comments. He saw nothing about rescue efforts. Digging out a pen, he scribbled out a plea for help. The journal was slammed closed and tucked under his arm. He grimaced as he got to his feet and walked back to Kobe, straining to breath through the pain.

Then he heard her sleepy, slurred singing. Oh, Zeus...

Jonas took off in a sprint. He yelped when he banged a shoulder into the Florean's sign as he rounded it and dropped to Kobe's side; the journal hit the pavement next to him. She was singing that stupid bloody Hogwarts song of all things.

He snorted as he slumped down to sit on his hip and lean over her. "I always tried to come up with new words to that one," he told her as he moved her arms to lay across her torso so she wasn't so sprawled. "Every year. It never was any good," he added with a hiccup of a laugh.

Kobe's eyelids fluttered asynchronously and Jonas's breath hitched out of fear. He scooted himself closer to her and propped himself on an elbow to bring his face near hers, curbing the urge to swear at the searing pain in his side. She was really dying. He didn't know if he could handle this.

"Do you want to hear a song?" he asked quietly, his voice cracking. He clamped his mouth shut to hold back a sob; tears were pricking at his eyes. He gently brushed his palm over her pallid cheek.

"Kobe? Do you want me to sing?" It was the only thing he could think to do. "You have to stay awake, love."

It really didn't hurt anymore, Kobe mused as she watched Jonas talk. She wasn't capturing his words, but she was watching him talk with the utmost interest. He had very pretty lips. Very nice lips. They were probably the reason he had such a lovely singing voice. No, not probably---Kobe was certain his beautiful, perfect lips were the true masters behind the voice she loved.

Do you want me to sing? Kobe's lips curled into a placid smile and she nodded, wondering what he would sing. For her! He was going to sing for her. That was awfully sweet of him. Kobe was glad that Jonas was here, she really was. There weren't any heart wrenching tears, or long, drawn out goodbyes that she could imagine her family dishing out, just...a song. He was going to sing.

Yes, that would be lovely.

"Okay," Jonas breathed out and petted her mussed, blond hair. The bleary smile on her face made him feel sick. "Okay, love," he repeated with a nod and rolled his lips together tightly.

He looked back over his shoulder and willed his band-mate to reappear with an army of mediwizards in-tow, but that was delusion of grandeur. Wincing, Jonas rubbed his shirt sleeve over his wet eyes and turned back to Kobe, who was still blissfully smiling. At first, Jonas completely blanked on a song and simply stroked her hair, but words poured out of him when her eyelids drooped further.

"I've bee so many places in my life and time," Jonas crooned in a raw, shaky voice. It was a Muggle song. One of his favorites and he didn't know why it was the one that came to him, but it had. "I've sung a lot of songs; I've made some bad rhymes..."

"I acted out my love in stages!" His voice loudly cracked and he gasped, but pushed on through the lyrics with a clenched jaw. "With ten thousand people watch--ing."

Jonas drew a harsh, shaky breath and cupped Kobe's face. "But we're alone now," his voice quivered as her eyes closed and her smile softened. "And I'm singing this song for you..."

She stopped moving entirely. Jonas sniffed back his tears and continued to pet her hair. "Kobe?" he quietly prompted. The last of the color had left her complexion. "Kobe!?" he gasped shrilly.

Jonas gripped at the side of her face. His fingertips pushed into wet hair. He drew his hand back and lost the ability to breathe as he stared at his bloody fingers. "Oh, Gods," he woefully sobbed as tears spilled down his cheeks.

Pop! Pop! POP!

Jonas jerked toward the noise and saw that a half a dozen or so Mediwizards had appeared in Diagon Alley.

"Here!" he hoarsely shouted. "Over here!" He was on his knees and waving. Two Mediwizards broke off running in their direction. Jonas sucked for breath as he sobbed. He hoped they were in-time to save Kobe. He didn't know if he could live with himself otherwise.
