For New Year's Eve!

Octavius thought, all things considered, this party had come together rather nicely. "All things considered" being the harrowing and oddly personal war Mira and he were currently battling out, and its various distractions. With the amount of sabotage his tricky personal assistant wreaked upon him (and, admittedly, some effects of his own retaliation, because he didn't have eight other siblings for nothing), he thought their end-of-the-year bash might never get off the ground. But the floating candles, the rather superb live, musical entertainment, and the food was proof of the fact that, in spite of the squabbling and havoc occuring at the Wizarding Wireless Network studios, they could still throw a rather excellent party.

He optimistically did not let it get to him that he had brought his sister as a date, and an offhand comment she'd made during one of their lunches had given him a spectacular idea for the grand finale of the night. Five minutes before midnight, the lamps would begin to dim to black as the ceiling turned into a reflection of the night sky. Then would begin the countdown, and at the stroke of midnight, ushering in the new year, a slew of firecrackers would be released over the crowd, all courtesy of some handy and pretty ingenious spellwork. Octavius was getting downright gleeful in anticipation of that.

Nor was he letting get to him the unfortunate fact that Mira and he, spitting claws and all, would be taking a portkey at the arse crack of dawn to Istanbul, for the European Cup beginning on the first (or, tomorrow). Select crew, and even some of the party-goers, were in the same boat, but Octavius had a feeling the sleeplessness would be worth it. Tonight would be a night to remember.

OOC refer here for kissing questions! Or ask me :]

Greta had been in two minds about going out to celebrate New Year's Eve, but Miranda and Ralph had talked her into going to the WWN's party they were planning on attending. Since she didn't really want to be sitting home by herself (with Maddie, of course!), it wasn't very hard to convince her. Asking Iwan Quigley to accompany her had been a last minute idea, but she was glad she had. Realising she'd been coming to lean on him quite heavily over the last few months, she was pleased to be asking him to do something fun with her for a change.

And it had been, in fact! Greta was enjoying herself immensely, and it seemed as if her friends were, too. New Year's celebrations were always the liveliest, and even her usually-reticent date was getting into the spirit of things. Speaking of Iwan, it was nearly midnight, and she had been a rather awful date for the last half an hour, or so. It had started with spotting a colleague and wandering off to say hello, then she'd been distracted by sampling one of the sweet bites (and finding it rather lacking), and just when she'd gotten the inkling time was getting away from her, the lights had begun to dim.

While she wasn't going to kiss Iwan, certainly, it would be rude to not make an attempt to find him when midnight struck, so she was strong-arming her way through the boisterous crowd when the countdown began. Still fighting her way through it, though it was a bit more difficult, she counted along with them, randomly slapped the hand of another body in the crowd, and whistled as the new year was greeted with a boom.

She looked up at the fireworks for a minute, awed, until her senses came to her. She had a date to find! "Pardon me," Greta said with a smile, tapping on the shoulder of the man blocking her way, "I need to—"

He had to run into her here, didn't he? At a fun end of the year party that he was actually enjoying quite a bit because of the crowd and atmosphere! The year had been a good one, with only slight bumps and mishaps, and it had been so good because he hadn't laid eyes on the miserable Regina Bagshot the entire time.

She was on the arm of some no name second string player, but second she'd spotted Thomas staring (glaring, glaring!) it was as if she was some sort of magnetized parasite on his side. It literally took five seconds for the yelling to start and luckily for him he had chosen the emptier bar by the entrance because he’d said some nasty things in return to her salacious comments. Face redder than a quaffle because of the fury of emotions swarming through him, Thomas had stormed outside to catch his breath. He hated her, he hated her, but seeing Regina after more than a year of completely eliminating the woman from his life caused his chest to remember the pain she’d caused him with her betrayal. Thomas stayed out in the light snowfall for some time, feeling guilty about these feelings, for leaving Samantha with his team poking and prodding playfully to tear the mickey out of him later. He even felt guilty about being here when Rose was at home, like he shouldn’t have accepted the invitation because of who was hosting the party. Everything swirled angrily in his mind and he was a moment from simply going home and apologizing to everyone the next morning.

But, he’d done some growing up in the past year, and he knew that he couldn’t just sulk away back to his flat like he used to. That was a major accomplishment, feeling that sense of responsibility for others, and Thomas made his way back into the party. By the electricity of the crowd he could tell that they were close to midnight and he stood in the sea of people, straining to catch sight of Samantha or his teammates. Bugger it all, he did not want to start the New Year on the wrong foot, especially with how the last hour of it had managed to be awful. The clock struck midnight and he stood, shoulders slumped and feeling defeated. The crowd jumped and screamed, the fireworks sparkling down upon them. Thomas was shaken out of his thoughts when someone tapped his shoulder, and when he turned it was to see the most entrancing woman to ever walk the earth standing behind him. He gaped at her for a moment, unsure where this overwhelming feeling had come from, before reaching forward to put his hand to the back of her head and pull her forward into a sound kiss.

For the moment, Greta was hardly questioning what she was doing. She hadn't gotten a good look (a look) at the face currently plastered to hers, but good golly, she didn't need to. This was probably the best kiss she'd ever had, and she knew kisses. Not that she was promiscuous, or anything (the opposite, really), but there was nothing she liked better than some intense snogging.

Even after the pleasure-induced haze had lifted, and the part of her that eventually talked Greta into making sound, logical choices began making noise about kissing strange lips at strange parties, her hands fisted into his collar and pinned the wizard right where he was for an extra enjoyable five seconds, or fifteen.

When sense (and a need for air) finally pervaded, she yanked her head back, with eyes the size of saucers. And there was that face. That really nice face, whose really nice lips she'd just been really nicely sucking on. All right, maybe she was a little promiscuous, but this was pushing it! This was pushing it by—a lot! There were—well, other sort-of-boyfriend lips she maybe ought to have been kissing tonight, but definitely, less-confusingly, a date she had to find!

"I—" she began, opening and closing her mouth soundlessly, as all rational thought had fled her about a minute earlier and was seeping back in at the speed of sludge. Most likely from the panic, her fists curled tighter while clutching at his top."You—crikey, are a very—very good at that—thing."

He kissed her like he imagined it would be to kiss one’s soulmate. He felt intoxicated but hadn’t had a drink in over an hour, he was warm all over with the rush of heat pulsing from the woman he’d grabbed, it felt like the most honest kiss he’d ever had, given, taken. Thomas’ prior thoughts of misery and guilt had been washed away for those few precious seconds and he reveled in it, but as the woman pulled him closer everything that had been on his mind for the past hour crashed to the forefront of his mind again. His eyes shot open as they finally pulled apart, and he stared agape at her.

Thomas cleared his throat, his face burning a deep red at her words. This was quite honestly the last thing he had on his mind to do: kiss a random girl when his current and ex-girlfriend were in the same room. How he had gotten himself into this, he couldn’t understand! Had she grabbed him? No, no it was most definitely his hand resting in her hair, it was him that was not pulling away at her tight grasp. What kind of deluded blackout had he just experienced? Thomas pressed his lips into a thin line, unsure whether or not to move as that meant breaking out of this moment and dealing with reality, or to risk splinching himself to get the hell away from this disaster of a party.

“Thank you?” he mumbled, terrified of moving from his spot as the repercussions were endless. At least he’d chosen a pretty face to accost, because managing to take out whatever blinding fury he seemed to have been in on something of a troll would have been unfortunate. Thomas let out a breath, only squirmed slightly to get free from her grip. “I have a date I should be kissing.”

It was absurd to feel slightly let down when he said that, because of course there were other people—person!—she could (should?) be kissing, too. As sense and mortification continued to return to her, Greta noticed her hands still locked securely onto his person, and dropped them immediately.

"Oh, sure," she said easily enough, still lacking the proper faculties for coherent conversation. Those had definitely been some fireworks, and she wasn't just talking about the brilliant display of lights that had been overhead. She touched her fingers to her lips absently, almost certain the sensation of them pressing them to his very nice ones could still be felt. "I've got a—someone or other, that's—somewhere."

It was then, thinking about at least Iwan and the poor manners associated with ditching a date, that she remembered how she'd even wound up in this position to begin with. Or the beginning of this position. It was tempting to say this man had just grabbed her and laid a solid one on her, but it felt very mutual. Not that Greta would ever object to a man who looked like that casually grabbing her any day of the week.

"Speaking of… that…" Ordinarily, she'd be appalled at her flourishing vocabulary, but bells continued to jangle in her head as she struggled to get said head on straight again. She looked about them, and opted not to try and squeeze through her right, as a drink had just been tossed in a face, and the left seemed rather obstructed given a couple that had just dropped into a horizontal position on the floor. Greta pointed over his shoulder, trying her best to look upbeat, "May I get by?"

“I---of course.”

Thomas remained still for a moment, still utterly confused about what had transpired. He had most definitely initiated the kiss, she didn’t seem very upset about it, and now they were to part ways and find their respective dates. That was it? It didn’t seem right, as if it were too easy to get out of the mess he’d created. Thomas supposed he should be glad that all he was going to get out of this was a strange mess of emotions and not a life-shattering kick to the privates that he most definitely deserved. He nodded numbly at the girl, taking a step to the side even though there wasn’t much space to pass by with how the crowd was surging, either to continue partying or to leave for the night. The new year had begun and it seemed to be ready to hit him hard.

He was supposed to be leaving now. There wasn’t much point in sleeping before his early portkey, but mentally he needed to lie down to stop his head from swirling. Seeing Regina tonight had thrown him completely off course and it had managed to wreck his last moments of the year. As the girl squeezed by him, his chest clenched in a panic, not wanting to continue out into this next year without having some sort of answer for his strange behavior. Why her? What had made him choose her out of all the women in the room? Instead of finding his girlfriend and kissing her fiercely to rid himself of all the anger and shame Regina had spurned, he had chosen the beautiful girl in the blue dress.

Completely having lost control of himself in every sense, Thomas reached out and grabbed hold of the passing girl’s wrist, tugging her back to him. He had to know. “What’s your name? Before you go.”

There was no denying Greta was still flustered beyond capacity, but she slowly began to see this peculiar little hiccup as a positive encounter. Mind-blowingly good snogging aside, she was hopeful it was a sign that the new year had goodness in store for her; by the nature of the event, she was assuming the sign indicated finally finding proper, suitable boyfriend material, but if 1984 wanted to throw some prosperous developments in her career and personal lives, she would be a cad to turn it down.

After all, If an extremely fit bloke was getting handsy with her apropos of nothing but a tap on the shoulder, surely that had to be the best of omens.

When he called out to her and grabbed hold of her wrist, Greta couldn't ignore the sharp, small tug of hope she felt, though he had clearly mentioned (and seemed upset over) having had a date waiting for him. Not to mention Greta had assured him she had the same. The date who had been a perfect prince of a friend to her all night, and didn't deserve her to — squinting, she rose on her tiptoes, and though she could just make out the curly top of her giant date's ginger head pressed close to that of a blonde's. Dropping back down, she smothered a laugh, and thought it looked as if it wasn't just her the new year was off to a good start for, after all.

"Oh, of course!" Silly of her not to say, although it was a strange situation to make introductions in. Though her lips had been pursed to try and staunch the grin threatening her, and she'd felt slightly crestfallen when he established he wasn't calling her back to lock lips once more, she had a rather brilliant smile by the time he'd yanked her back to him. "It's Greta."
