For New Year's Eve!

Octavius thought, all things considered, this party had come together rather nicely. "All things considered" being the harrowing and oddly personal war Mira and he were currently battling out, and its various distractions. With the amount of sabotage his tricky personal assistant wreaked upon him (and, admittedly, some effects of his own retaliation, because he didn't have eight other siblings for nothing), he thought their end-of-the-year bash might never get off the ground. But the floating candles, the rather superb live, musical entertainment, and the food was proof of the fact that, in spite of the squabbling and havoc occuring at the Wizarding Wireless Network studios, they could still throw a rather excellent party.

He optimistically did not let it get to him that he had brought his sister as a date, and an offhand comment she'd made during one of their lunches had given him a spectacular idea for the grand finale of the night. Five minutes before midnight, the lamps would begin to dim to black as the ceiling turned into a reflection of the night sky. Then would begin the countdown, and at the stroke of midnight, ushering in the new year, a slew of firecrackers would be released over the crowd, all courtesy of some handy and pretty ingenious spellwork. Octavius was getting downright gleeful in anticipation of that.

Nor was he letting get to him the unfortunate fact that Mira and he, spitting claws and all, would be taking a portkey at the arse crack of dawn to Istanbul, for the European Cup beginning on the first (or, tomorrow). Select crew, and even some of the party-goers, were in the same boat, but Octavius had a feeling the sleeplessness would be worth it. Tonight would be a night to remember.

OOC refer here for kissing questions! Or ask me :]

Matt continued to frown, but because of Glenda’s reaction. He hated the sight of her, being upset over something that was not---it was serious, he supposed, but it wasn’t something of huge, earth shaking importance. People got caught up in things all the time, maybe she’d had too much to drink, it happened. It had happened and it had felt good. Matt bit his lip momentarily, watching Glenda as she grew even more embarrassed. That was no good, he couldn’t let her start off the year this way, not when she’d been such a good friend to him these past few months. Even if she didn’t reciprocate his romantic feelings, she still cared enough about him to let him off gently. That was fine. It was, it---made him like her even more.

So---he couldn’t let her feel bad about this. At least, not alone.

Glad that she’d shut her eyes, Matt stepped forward and bent forward to kiss her. Most definitely not as deeply as she had just kissed him, a very chaste kiss that would hopefully knock some sense back into her with how abrupt and quick it was. Matt straightened back up, face flushed deeply; he’d never imagined he’d be kissing Glenda Chittock to get her to stop worrying about kissing him. It was all a bit too confusing for this late at night for the former Hufflepuff.

“Now we’re even,” he said, putting his hand out to shake on it. Matt forced himself not to allow his mind to focus on how good her lips felt upon his, but he cleared his throat and threw on his patented smile once again. Glenda was too sweet of a person for him to allow to be upset. “I won’t tell if you won’t.”

Her eyes popped open, and Gleny couldn't help but feel a bit stunned into silence. And eased, though not fully, because nothing Matt could say right then and here would completely calm her, but the thick dread that embarrassment that had been filling in her stopped.

Now they were even?

She blinked quickly, accepting a reluctant truth to that statement. That was... true, she supposed, and though she could barely look at him, what little glances she did make at his face did show that he did not seem as... upset as she originally thought.

But wasn't it all incredibly rude of her? And inappropriate, for she knew how he felt about her, and to kiss him so thoughtlessly... Glenda pulled her lips back in an attempt to control herself. It was important, now, to focus on one issue at a time, so breaking out into tears because of this would have to wait.

"Alright," she spoke wearily, reaching slowly to finally grasp his hand in a light shake.

"I'm still sorry," she interjected, unable to let that go. It was important... that he understood her acceptance of making a mistake. An uncomfortable smile appeared on her face.
