To Larit
Speeding down the street as was his routine, Roger pedaled as if his life depended on it. Funny, how that was the last thing his life would depend on. More to the point, his life was very soon going to be at the mercy of a werewolf and the auror sent to hunt it down. Roger knew nothing of that world and the freight train of disaster barreling toward him on that unusually crisp Spring evening. The sky was cloudless and the moon hung full.

What he knew was that he had a package to deliver on St. John street. A very urgent package, according to his boss. Roger never asked questions about what he was carrying. Being a bicycle messenger, he was used to being told to hurry up, but Mr. Wallington had been especially anxious about this particular parcel, so there Roger was, pedaling rapidly down a twisty street, cutting through a back alley as a shortcut. That was his ultimate downfall. If he'd stayed on the main road his life would have carried on normally. The main road was safe while the alley contained a lurking dark creature.

When he realized that this particular alley was a dead end, Roger cursed under his breath and turned his bike around to head back out as he lamented how much time that wrong turn had probably cost him.

Part of Roger was still aware, reality mixed with dreams and he relived the attack over and over as he slept. He heard the strange words coming from Larit, but of course he had no means to understand them.

Roger's roommate was going to wonder where he'd gone. In fact, the man would never see him again due to the way Roger's life was about to change. But if there was a way to get bit by a werewolf that was advantageous, Roger had hit the jackpot with Larit. The man knew what he was doing. When he woke up with a flush of heat and a twist in his gut, he cried out as if waking from a nightmare. Unfortunately, he was waking into a nightmare. "Help," he whimpered to no one in particular, only knowing that he needed it.

No part of him understood what was going on and he felt as if his body was revolting against him. He wasn't even aware enough to realize that he wasn't still on the street where it had happened. Fingers curling inward, he couldn't fathom his own strength and ripped through the fabric of the couch, tearing up a bit of stuffing.

Larit had filled the tub with ice and now he was working on the correct herbs to toss in it as well, to help take the fever down and lessen the pain. Sure, he could let the kid die but... For some reason he wasn't willing to do that. Part of being an Auror was helping good people just as much as it was sometimes killing the bad ones. When he was finished, he could hear Roger coming around. The tiny little 'help' made him frown, and he came out of the bathroom to go over to the boy.

"You are very sick, but I am going to help you. I need to take your clothes off so we can get you in the ice bath and get this fever down," he told the boy before he started to strip off his clothes without waiting for an answer.

Still delirious, Roger tried to focus on the man who was undressing him. "I'm not sick," he protested with a bit of a struggle. Even though his adrenaline was pumping and he was very strong thanks to the growing infection, he wasn't coordinated enough to do much of anything against Larit. Immediately, he felt tired again and so he stopped moving at all and just let out a groan of pain.

The magic in the virus was attacking every cell in his body. It was the same in wizards as it was in non-magic folk. The werewolfism didn't care one way or the other. Wizards, however, were of hardier stock, and so Roger was taking this particularly bad. The fever shot up and when he finally hit the ice water, he yelped with surprise and agony. But there was relief in it too and it shocked him into a moment of clarity. He looked up at Larit. "What happened? Who are you? Where's my bike?"

Instead of trying to argue with a delirious and sick muggle, Larit just continued to strip his clothes off and then he plucked him up to carry him into the bathroom to slip him into the tub. Once Roger as settled, he stood back up and finally unbuttoned his coat, though he was mindful to take his wand out of his coat pocket so that he could put it on the counter top. He was going to have to make Roger a potion to drink, something that would help strengthen him so that he could survive the transition easier. If at all, really. Werewolf bites were tricky and nasty things.

"You got bit by a werewolf, your bike is back in that alley, and I'm Larit," he said not answering the questions in the order that Roger had asked. "I need to make you a strengthening potion to drink to help you survive the bite, you need to stay in the bath. Understand?"

The answers were not at all comforting, except perhaps the last one because now he knew the man's name. Somehow, it was better to be held captive by someone with a name. And that's what Roger was beginning to believe. This man was the one who had attacked him and he had imagined the whole monster thing. Now he was playing out some twisted fantasy where he played the hero and--another wave of pain took him and his thoughts stopped abruptly.

He didn't have a chance to answer, but from the look of it, Roger wasn't going anywhere as all of his muscles were seizing up. The ice was somewhat numbing, at least, and the herbs were keeping him from exploding out of his skin. The virus wanted him to shift now, overtaking his system quickly because he was a muggle. But his cells weren't ready to shift and survive. He needed to wait until the next full moon.

When Larit returned, the spasms had passed and Roger was lying there perfectly still. His breathing was so shallow that he looked dead, serene in his moment of relief.

Larit honestly didn't even think of the possibility that Roger might think he was crazy and living out some insane fantasy. In the end, it wouldn't matter at all because Roger would quickly discover that Larit wasn't crazy at all. In fact, the boy might find himself crazy for a little bit. Discovering a whole new world that had been there all along that you had no idea about was hard for a muggle. For new wizards, it could even be hard to grasp - but at least they had the ability of magic and could prove to themselves with certainty that it existed.

"This is called Banestooth," he said as he knelt down. "It tastes like shit, but it will help with the pain and help the shift to stop trying to come so fast. Your body isn't ready for it, you can't shift yet," he instructed as he held the potion out. "Drink."

The man roused him again and he opened his eyes drearily. Everything was blurry and Larit was nothing more than a blob of shadow against the back-lighting in the bathroom.

"The werewolf thing? Don't be--" Roger sucked in a breath as if he wasn't able to get enough oxygen. "Don't be ridiculous. I'm not drinking anything--let me go." His brain tried to parse together what was going on, settling more firmly than ever on the idea that he'd been attacked and kidnapped. He sat up in the tub, looking down at his own naked body. When he saw the scar on his leg, he reached down to touch it. There had been a ghastly wound there, he'd felt it happen.

Roger pushed the potion away stubbornly. He could be difficult under normal circumstances; the situation at hand was only making him more steadfast in his resistance.

Lifting the potion out of harms way of being spilled, Larit got to his feet and reached for his wand.

"Immobulus," he said with a flick, causing Roger to be unable to move any longer. "I didn't want to have to do that, but you're being difficult," he said as he set his wand aside and moved to kneel over the muggle. Tipping his head back, he poured the potion down his throat, then reached for his wand to touch Roger's adam's apple so that his throat was no longer immobile and with a mumble the liquid when down into his belly. "There, that wasn't so bad now, was it? Within a few minutes the pain will lessen and it'll slow the cells in your body from changing so rapidly so that they can adjust to the change."

If Roger had been afraid and bewildered before, it was nothing compared to what he felt now that he couldn't move. Not even his mouth could move to form words but a spark behind his eyes conveyed the kind of horror he felt.

With the release of his throat, he understood now that Larit had complete control and there was something very real going on. But that couldn't mean that he really had been bitten by a werewolf--it just couldn't. Making a sound with what little he could move, his eyes went from fearful to surprised. The pain was subsiding, just like Larit had said. As the pain eased, his brain became more logical and present and he started to recall the truth of what had happened to him.

"It's good that you're relaxing, that means what we're doing everything right," Larit sad as he unbuttoned his dress shirt and rolled his sleeves up to his elbows. "You starting to feel a bit better, then?" he asked with a raised brow as he knelt back down and reached out to feel Roger's forehead with the back of his hand. "Your temp is still up but you aren't burning up as much as you were, so that's a good sign. I'm going to need to keep you a bit sedated for a few days, just to prevent a premature shift. You won't survive a shift if it's too soon - it needs to wait until the next full moon cycle."

"We?" Was his first response. "You've been doing all of the work. I've just been convulsing." Even under the circumstances, Roger got his wits back rather quickly. He was so relieved by the break in pain that he wasn't even concerned with the whole magic display. Falling into a distant silence, he stared down at his feet, just now starting to feel the cold. His fever was still present, but it wasn't raging as it had been before.

Finally, he looked back up at the man and fully registered his appearance. "Of course I'd meet someone gorgeous in this state. Naked in an ice bath." He glanced down at himself pointedly, wondering if he could claim shrinkage. His voice was quiet, as if he'd meant those words just to be for himself but didn't quite have a grasp volume just yet. "I'm going to get fired," he continued to ramble. "That package was important. Oh, shit, I was supposed to pick up milk. A few days?" It was hard to tell what he meant for Larit and what he meant for himself.

"Well, technically you met me in an alley while you were being mauled by a out of control creature," Larit said as he sat back on the floor and brought his knees up a bit so that he could rest his forearms against them. "The package doesn't matter any more and neither does your job, but I'll explain that later," he added as he stared over at the young man.

Now that he'd gotten Roger calm and taken care of, he was able to notice just how attractive he was. Small, pretty. He even had elf like features, in that ridiculous Lord of the Rings way that Larit was so fond of.

"What's your name? I'm Larit."

"My package?" his mind went immediately to his junk. Why didn't that matter anymore!? But realization dawned and he nodded as if he'd known all along that Larit was referring to the package that was supposed to be delivered. Leaning his head back against the tub with a thunk, he sighed. A part of him suddenly felt like crying, but he held it back because that would even be more embarrassing.

"Roger," he offered. "By creature you mean werewolf, right? You've been--I think I remember you talking about shifting. Are you serious? How do you know this stuff?" He desperately wanted it to be an elaborate prank and he sat up suddenly to check his leg. Had he seen a scar before? There had been a wound there. His knowledge about his own body kept slipping away and coming back.

At Roger's confusion, Larit arched a brow. Anyone else might have laughed or smirked, but not Larit. Clearing his throat, he waited for the young man's brain to catch up with him and once it had, Larit got to his feet again.

"Yes, a werewolf, and yes I am very serious," he told Roger as he reached for his wand. "I'm a wizard. I know your kind has been taught not to believe in magic, and this is going to be a bit of a shock and a difficult transition for you to make. But I assure that magic is real, and so are werewolves - and you are now, in fact, a werewolf as well. Or you will be, when the next full moon comes."

"A wizard," Roger laughed. It was a natural first response. The hot ones were always crazy. But no, he was certain that he'd felt his entire body paralyzed just a moment before and he'd definitely seen a gray mass of fur coming at him. "Sorry," he said when Larit didn't laugh with him and he cleared his throat. "Do you--I mean do all wizards have a stick up their ass?" He smiled as charmingly as he could, hoping that Larit would take it for the joke that it was.

Larit's expression didn't change, and he crossed his arms over his chest as he looked down at Roger with a bit of a frown.

"Well, we usually use the term 'wand up their ass'," he explained. "But no, generally that doesn't happen ... Very often. "I think you're good to come out of the bath now, I can put you in a robe for now and conjure you up something more suitable to rest in."

As soon as Larit indicated that it might be okay to get out of that ice, Roger was trying to stand up. He wanted to be covered up instead of lying there so vulnerable. His legs were shaky though and he had to cling to the wall of the bathroom to steady himself.

"You should smile," he suggested and didn't know if it was genuine concern for Larit's mental health or just the desire to feel less scrutinized under his stern gaze. Sucking in a deep breath, he let his cheek rest against the tiles of the bathtub. "So is there a spell to cure me? A potion?"

The comment made Larit want to smile, but only because he found Roger very attractive. Of course, he didn't let on about that fact at all and remained serious.

"Unfortunately, no," he told Roger as he grabbed a fluffy towel and helped him out of the tub and into the robe. "Steady yourself on the wall," he instructed as he stood back and leveled his wand, and with a quick flick Roger was suddenly dry.

Without saying a ward, Larit tucked his wand into his back pocket and then lifted Roger up as if he weighed nothing so that he could carry him out of the bathroom and over to the bed where he set him down.

Roger let out a squeak, seeing the flick of the wand and somehow afraid that Larit was going to turn him into a frog or something. But when all it did was dry him off rather pleasantly, he felt stupid for making that girlish sound.

When he felt himself be lifted up, he looked at Larit with a sort of damsel in distress face and just said 'wow.' He was clearly impressed, chest heaving a deep breath at the feel of Larit carrying him like that. With the robe wrapped around him, he felt snug and exhausted. As soon as he was set down on the bed, he curled onto his side and hitched his knees up to his chest. This had to be a dream. Larit was just far too handsome and the whole situation was crazy.

"It's okay if there's not a cure. I'm sure that everything will be fine when I wake up," he said drowsily. "But you won't be here and that'll be sad. I'm tired. Should I be tired? I want to stay awake. How long have you been a wizard? Can I learn?"

Usually Larit would notice a look like that from someone that he found so attractive, but he was so focused on tending to the situation and Roger that it slipped past him for the moment. He tugged the covers back and tucked the younger man in before he straightened up and looked down at him with a raised brow.

"It's not a dream," he told him honestly. "I'll still be here when you wake up, and you'll still be in my bed," he added. "I've been a wizard well - technically since birth, but I didn't start proper schooling until I was thirteen. And no, it's a gift that you are either blessed with, or you aren't."

He spoke so matter-of-factly, as if he were explaining how the moon worked with the tide.

Roger stuck his tongue out at the man before realizing how childish that must have looked. But it was just his youthful personality showing through. "That's what stupid elitists say. It's all about breeding. I'll bet I could learn if I really tried. Nothing is unlearnable." At least, Roger liked to think that. He was also just being contrary.

"This is your bed?" Even though he was tired, he had a mind to sit up and look around at the man's bedroom. The herbs were still coursing through his system, stemming the fever and the muscle cramps. It was almost as if nothing bad was happening to him, nothing worse than a hangover, some dizziness.

"Trust me, that is not what an elistist wizard would say at all - they'd say something much more harsh and demeaning, and no you can't learn it," Larit said as he unbottoned his shirt and slid it off. "That is my bed, yes," he answered as if Roger had really been expecting one. "And the next time you stick out your tongue at me like that, I'll enlarge it so that you can't put it back in your mouth," he added as he dumped his shirt into a box.

The box made a strange sound, and suddenly the shirt came out clean and on a hanger, which Larit plucked up to go hang up in his closet.

Roger's eyes went wide at even more evidence that Larit really was what he said he was. Would he ever get used to seeing magic? He really didn't think so. Then, of course, there was the issue of Larit without a shirt and that was some sort of magic too, though the kind to which Roger was (only slightly) more accustomed. He was staring at the smooth lines of Larit's back as he moved. There was something inside of him that felt hungry and it alarmed him to realize that the hunger was more to bite into Larit's skin than to just touch it. Yes, there was lust there too, but he found himself wanting to rip Larit apart in the process. Letting out a gasp, he covered his mouth with both hands as if that would prevent him from biting the man.

"I don't feel so good," he said through his fingers.

Larit pulled out a clean v-neck t-shirt and tugged it on before he snatched his wand out of his back pocket and pointed it in Roger's direction. He mumbled something quietly, something to calm the young man's nerves, and then he put his wand back and went over to the wall. He tapped it with his wand, and another room opened up. This one was full of potions that Larit kept on hand, in stock, for his travels. Just in case he needed to pack up and go somewhere - he might need a little help.

"It's the virus, the change, it's going to effect your appetite and your sex drive," he said absently over his shoulder. "You're hungry? I can make you a steak - I hope you weren't a vegetarian before this. You most certainly won't be now," he added, then paused. "Well, you might be able to pull it off but it'd be very difficult and a little stupid and stubborn of you."

His cheeks went pink at the mention of a sex drive and he had to force himself to squeeze his eyes shut. "I wanted to eat you. You're not at all disturbed by that? You'll feed me a steak instead?"

Just because Larit had said that about it being stupid to be a vegetarian now, Roger wanted to become one. In spite of his renewed alarm, he laughed at his own desire to contradict everything. "You should make me a steak. And maybe stop pointing your wand at me and making me feel things that aren't real. If I'm not calm, then I shouldn't be calm. It's weird."
