Pancake Tuesday (Open all)

About a week ago Casey had made a passing mention of how in Ireland on the day before Ash Wednesday they would celebrate Pancake Tuesday. Well apparently one of the higher up though it was neat and would be a good event to have at Finnegans.  The bar had done some mild advertising for it and they were hoping for some increase in business which is why Casey found himself working a longer shift than usual he barely had time to get to work after teaching his recitation but at least he was certain to make a lot of money today.

When he got there the place was already hopping and the waitresses looked busy. Apparently they were giving out free pancakes and were hoping to use that to make people buy more drinks. By the time Casey got behind the bar he could tell their plan was working with the amount of drinks he had to get. He was definitely making a lot of money today which made him very happy with how crazy it was going to be this afternoon.

A guy had to eat, and Jack burned up a lot of calories during his nighttime activities. He liked Finnegan's and when word of Pancake Tuesday reached him, he made plans to be there for it.

He had a table near the far end of the bar where he could watch people while he ate and sketch to his heart's content.

Casey had noticed that Jack had come it and was sketching. It took an almost an hour before he could take a break to walk over and say hi. Which was what he was walking over through the bar to do right now.

Jack looked and grinned. "Casey, right?" he asked when the bartender was close enough to hear him. "Got quite a crowd here tonight."

“Hey, Jack right,” Casey says as he gets closer, “Yeah things are starting to get crazy around here, so figured I’d take this break to come by and says hi.”

Jack set down his pencil and held out a hand. "I couldn't resist a pancake feed. Don't think the Guinness will go with the syrup, but there's always Irish coffee."

“Very true Guinness isn’t much of a morning drink like Irish coffee tends to be,” says Casey as he finishes shaking Jack’s hand,”And the pancakes really are quite good.”

"I'm looking forward to it. This'll be as close to a homecooked meal as I've had in a while. Something to tell my mother when she asks if I've been eating well."

“I can’t really afford to eat out so I guess you could say most of my meals are homecooked, I’m actually starting to get good at it,” say Casey a bit proud of himself. “I think that’s a universal mom question, kinda like are you getting enough exercise.”

"That's one question she doesn't ask me. I can cook okay, but I forget to eat when I'm working at home. It's easier to grab a sandwich when I'm out." Between school and 'urban gymnastics', Jack looked pretty lean for his height. "I save the real cooking for when my girlfriend comes over and I'm trying to impress her. I think she'll like the bar. I'm going to bring her the next time she's in town."

“Every mom’s different I guess.” His mother rarely ever asked him to stay safe or anything like that on account of his luck which worked as a pretty good deterrent as long as he didn’t over do things pushing his luck. “There is something special about a good home cooked isn’t there. I’m sure your girlfriend would like it here,” Casey says, there always did seem to be a lot of woman in here whenever he was working.

"Oh yeah." Elektra didn't do homecooking or normal mothering, but Jack didn't miss a thing growing up. The lessons he learned from his retired assassin mother were invaluable. Everybody needed a back up plan if their first didn't work out.

Jack looked around at the decent turnout. If the atmosphere was something to judge by, Kalypso would really like it. It was a little female heavy, but as soon as the guys figured that out, it would probably balance. In fact, he noticed several tables of women checking out the bartender. Good marketing scheme for the owner.

"I think you're being paged at a few other tables," he said with a chuckle.

Melissa loved the smell of pancakes, if only for the happy times it reminded her of when she was a kid. So when she saw the flyer on campus advertising Pancake Tuesday, there was really only one thing to do, besides go there and eat pancakes, of course.

"May, it's Mel. Pancakes at Finnegans, today. We must do this. Bring the books if you have to. Ciao." she says, waiting for confirmation that her message was received. Once she's certain it is, she walks into Finnegans and finds a table, sitting down to wait for May.

When the waitress arrives, Melissa smiles and orders the pancakes and a two waters, thinking of her friend. Meanwhile, she lets her gaze wander around the busy bar and settles on the good-looking bartender.

She offers him a wave and a smile, as she waits for May and the pancakes.

May walked into Finnegans, bag slung over her shoulder and a smile on her face. "Never fear, May is here!" She grinned when she spotted Mel, laughing at how corny that sounded. "You had me at pancakes," she said as she took a seat across from Mel at the table, "My stomach followed the aroma from my dorm."

That, and web-slinging her way made it easier for her to get there in record time. But Mel doesn't need to know that.

"Pancakes are the second most wonderful invention that man has come up with. Anyone who tells you different, or that waffles are better, is lying and should be tarred and feathered." Mel says as May sits down.

"Hey, check out the eye candy at the bar." Mel says, nodding slightly in the direction of the bar.

"Does he look familiar to you at all?" Mel asks. She hasn't be staring at him, so much as she's been looking with great interest. There's something familiar about the guy, though she can't place what it is.

The waitresses had been very busy and since he had thing under control at the bar Casey offered to help one of the more busy waitresses. She told him to bring 2 orders of pancakes and 2 waters over to the young women whose friend had just sat down and then pointed to the table to make sure Casey knew where she meant.

Getting their glasses of water Casey headed over to the table.

May tilted her head to look at the bartender. "Not really...but he's really hot. Aaaand...he's coming this way."

"Oh, you're kidding me." she says, as May mentions that the bartender is coming to their table.

"Okay, play it cool. Play it cool." Melissa says more to herself than May. When the bartender arrives, she gives him her best smile.

"Thank you." she says, letting her eyes linger on him for a second more than normal as she takes a sip of the water.

“Right two waters for ya,” says Casey with a smile after putting down the two glasses in front of the girls.

“Your pancakes will be here shortly,” Casey says with another smile as he starts turning around to head back to the bar.

Melissa offers Casey a slight smile as he turns to go back to the bar, turning to look back a May again.

"My god. I think they broke the mold with that one." she says, maybe a bit louder than she intended.

"Hey, he can try his luck with me anytime." Melissa says.

"So, I think I managed to finish my homework on my own last night. It might even be correct! Hanging out with you is rubbing off on me.

I doodled a chemical equation on my Poli-sci notes yesterday and got a '?' back from the Professor." she laughed.
