Night on the Town
Senagi was...well..culture shock didn't really describe what he was seeing. He went from a small village to..this. Being in a place like this with all the power sources would have been a nightmare normally, but he'd be outfitted for this. Under his clothes was a dampening suit which greatly hindered the amount of excess energy he'd passively absorb. He also wore a pair of thick glasses, Andrew said it was similar in design to his uncle's protective eyewear. If someone asked about the glasses, he'd just say he had "eye problems..which was technically true.

"Angelo..no words come to me to describe this."

Angelo nodded sagely. "That's understandable. This city... well, for all there is to complain about it, there is nothing quite like it anywhere else."

He looks to Sengai. "What do you normally do for fun? I was planning on us taking in a movie, just about the most American one possible, but the plans are flexible."

"You must understand Angelo, I come from the outskirts of Sri Lanka. Nowhere near the citites. I either played in the streams, went to town with mother, or trained with father." Sengai's look changed to mild depression. "Of course when my powers developed I couldn't really go into town. I assure you you'd know better on what to doi than I."

Angelo pats his shoulder sympathetically. "I'm sorry if I offended you..." A moment's thought. "I know a good place to start."

He pulls his companion into an alleyway, and after a quick check around, teleports them to another obscured (as obscured as is possible in Manhattan) spot near Grand Central Station.

"This is, for all purposes, one of the nerve centers of the city. The people coming and going... the beautiful construction, but most important at the moment..." He leads Sengai inside and then downstairs.

"Lots and lots of different foods." He grins.

"You didn't offend me, my friend. My mother often lamented she couldn't take me with her when she traveled. I've been called demon eyes more than once."

Sengai allows Angelo to pull him along and gives a slight start and the change in scenery. "It is beautiful." Sengai agreed at Angelo's assessment. He then smirks. "You think of food a great deal."

Angelo grins. "Non si vive di solo pane. One does not live on bread alone, my friend. Come on, there's a surprisingly pleasant little gelato stand. We can start with something sweet."

"Tha t sounds agreeable. What do they..." Sengai's train of thought is broken by a pair of girls wearing what can only be described as scandalous clothing. As the two passed, Sengai's mouth ajar, he slowly turns to Angelo. "They can wear that?" Sengai was embarassed to realize his voice was somewhat hoarse.

Angelo notices as well, but only because Sengai did.

Yeah.

"Yes... legally, allowed to wear even... less appropriate clothing." That's polite enough for him to get out. "It is a very different country here."

"My mother mentioned something like that, but I thought she was just being overprotective." Sengai shook his head as if clearing cobwebs. "What were we doing? Sweet food, right?"

"Gelato, yes." He leads Sengai around a corner and points out the various flavors at the booth. "Now, I tend to adhere to the fruit flavors, but pick whatever flavor you feel suits you best."

Sengai looks at the food, slightly confused as he's never seen anything like it before. "Um..I..hmm. Do they have apple?"

Angelo nods, pointing out a white and green mix. "Yes. Tart apple, right here. I tend to prefer green to red apples myself."

He orders himself a cup of mango and strawberry.

"No, it's a bit thick for that." Angelo passes him a spoon. "It's similar to ice cream, if you're at all familiar with that. You scoop it out of the cup or bowl, then eat it."

He demonstrates, hoping this is sounding less patronizing to Sengai than it sounds to him at the moment.

"I had it once. Mother called in some favors from friends she had living in one of the cities. She had it brought home for my birthday when I was ten. father said it was a waste of contacts. Mother said 'well then, you can't have any'. The look on his face was priceless." Sengai scooped some of the substance up and brought to his lips. "Mmm, not bad at all."

Angelo laughs amidst his own mouthful. "Mhm..." He wipes his mouth with a napkin. "Yes, Mother has a similar humor about handling Father's... well, my Father is understandably 'old world', I think explains it best."

"Yes, Father mentioned your father's past. I found it more akin to a story of fiction, though it seems not so odd when compared to what else is seen in this modern world. He mentioned your mother as well. His precise words were 'good fighter' and left it at that." Sengai paused to take another bite.

Angelo turns his chin up slightly. "Father would never exaggerate the details of his past, so I'm sure he related them exactly to your father as well.

Mother is wonderful. She taught me much of what I know about cooking. People tell me I take after her more than father, and the reverse for Gio."

"I did not wish to imply your father was lying. I only meant that when Father related it to me, it sounded unbelievable.

Well if Giovanna is any indication than your father must be a formidable man. Se htold me that because of their powers that all their arguements are done telepathically."

"Yes..my parents never bothered with that. When they fought, it was always a spectacle. It'd sometimes turn into a contest of who could mock the other in a way they hadn't used before. Sometimes get outright mean. No blows were ever exchanged, but it was loud. Sometimes afer particularily vehement encounters they'd..abruptly leave the house for a couple minutes." Sengai din't clarify.

Angelo ate more of his gelato, resisting the urge to ask if they left the house together or only one of them. "I see...

What kind of food do you generally enjoy for a main course? As you noticed, there are a great number of options here." He smiled.

"We lived on the outskirts of a village so it was either bread, meat, fruits, vegetables, and milk. As a result, I developed as a man of simple tastes. I'd have no idea what to go with. What do you like?"

"Hm. Well, it's hardly my favorite, but I suppose we should start with the token local cuisine..." Angelo shakes his head to himself.

"You'll find that, for lack of any true cultural background of its own, 'American' food centers around cow beef, potatoes, and white bread, in one form or another, with copious amounts of salt." He leads him to another section of the dining concourse, having them seated by the hostess, whom Angelo smiles politely at.

"Hamburgers. Introduced at the world's fair just over a century ago, and a regular fixture for Americans ever since. I prefer mine cooked medium rare, that's with just a bit of red in the center of the meat, with bacon and cheese." He points out the other topping choices on the menu to Sengai. "Most popularly paired with--" He grimaces slightly "--'french' fries, or just 'fries'. Fried sticks of potato, which are served with ketchup themselves."

"I..I cannot et beef. My apologies friend, but i was raised Hindu. The cow is sacred in our faith." Sengai notes his look. "French fries? They originated in your father's homeland?"

Angelo's eyes widen, and he lowers his head in apology. Despite the inherent complications of Bennet family background, religious edicts are always to be respected, so long as they themselves respect others.

"I'm very sorry, I didn't realize. However, there is a chicken cutlet sandwich, as well as a sandwich with shredded pork. Both of those meats feature heavily in American food as well."

He can't help but roll his eyes at the inquiry about the fries.

"It is a very complicated, very American, issue... but largely irrelevant one. In this case, it's just a name that stuck."

"No apology is necessary, Angelo. You didn't know and I didn't mention it." Sengai mulls over the options. "I used to have chicken at home. I try the chicken sandwich to mentioned." Sengai feels a slight twinge, an indication that his body was attempting to absprb energy but the suit was aloowing it. He rubbed his templefor a moment, not wishing to compalin aloud.
