The First Day of School is Always Memorable (After the big fight and bendytimed to Tues 8th)
Nothing was more enjoyable to a parent than the first day of school after a long and interesting summer and today was no exception. Sydney was enjoying the peace and quiet that came with a child at school. Zoey wasn't a bad kid, she just had a lot of energy and Syd could barely keep up to her daughter some days.

Once Zoey was off to school for the day, the whole day to boot, Syd went to her morning class and then hit the grocery store on her way home. Someone, she had a sneaking suspicion who, had eaten the last of her not so secret stash of Ben and Jerry's Brownie Batter ice cream and Syd was craving chocolate. It had to be PMS and if she didn't get some chocolate ice cream even the gods would be fearing her.

Class was done, ice cream was acquired, and Syd was now sitting quietly at the table in the kitchen eating her ice cream and reading her assignment for her class in sociology. The house was eerily quiet and a small part of her brain wondered what the godlings were doing, or more likely getting in to. Naw. She didn't want to do know. The day was going too well and she didn't want to ruin it.

It wasn't to last. Instead of the peace and quiet being ruined by something crashing, getting broken, or demons showing up at the front door, her cell phone ringing shatter the quiet reprieve.

"Hello."

"Yes. This is Sydney Ashcroft."

"She did what?" A heavy sigh. "I'll be right there. Thank you."

Syd disconnected the call and sat there for a long moment. Well that was unexpected, sort of, not really. She really shouldn't be surprised. Not in the least. Of course she had to go in and talk to Zoey's principal on the first day of school.

She closed her book, grabbed her phone, grabbed her car keys and headed for the door.

	Zoey was still waiting an adjacent room to the principal's office when Sidney arrived. "Ms. Ashcroft, thank you for coming," Mr. Cooleridge said, his tone just a little anxious. "It is, after all, school policy to try to get this sort of thing sorted out as quickly as possible." (Reply to this)(Thread)

Ohu couldn't let Syd go alone. Thus, he came with her as she left, making sure that she had proper support. Going to the principal's office, however, is a big deal, and he wanted to be sure he was ready. He is dressed as a father should be: a suit and tie; a mustache dangling from his nose; and a pipe is clenched tightly between his teeth.

"What sort of problem does there seem to be?" he asks in an artificially low voice, then he clenches the pipe between his teeth. Bubbles drift up from the end.

	Bringing Ohu was definitely not Syd's idea. He had caught her on her way out the door and the next thing she knew he was climbing into the passenger's seat of the car despite Syd's insistence that a trip to Zoey's school was something she could handle on her own. Mr. Cooleridge...blinked for just a moment at the bubble pipe, then shook it off and addressed Sydney again.

"As far as we can tell, Zoey seems to have abruptly approached Jamie Zielinski -- who happens to be the tallest boy in the grade but, honestly, has not shown any particularly aggressive behavior -- and punched him several times until he was knocked over. Jamie's still with the nurse, but he's essentially fine."

There's an expression on Mr. Cooleridge's face of I-can't-believe-I'm-saying-this-but... "I think one thing that definitely needs to be made clear to Zoey, based on what she was apparently saying afterward, is that the lunch line operates alphabetically, and not on some kind of....wolfpack-like hierarchy structure."

	"We moved this past summer and I started a new job," Syd explained. How in the world could she explain what happened at Disneyland or that a horde of demons and soldiers attacked the house? Or that they were living with gods for crying out loud. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"Of course not," Ohu replies to the principal. "She has had a wonderfully fun summer without stresses (except for the demon attack, of course, but that was nothing) and she was looking forward to school. She should know better than to attack another child. With great responsibility comes great power... or something like that." He takes another draw from his bubble pipe, and the mustache dangles for a moment. Ohu presses it firmly back into place.

"I don't think you'll have a problem with her acting aggressively towards another student again. We'll have a serious talk with her about her responsibilities towards other students."

	Syd wasn't even going to try to explain Ohu or what the hell he was currently doing. Since taking the job, there were a lot of things she figured were better left unexplained. "I will talk with her and see that she is properly punished for this," Sydney assured the principal. It appeared she needed to have a talk with the others living at the compound as well. "You just picked on someone who didn't deserve it, to protect yourself. This means you owe someone an apology."

He crouches to look Zoey in the eye.

"Halbjorn is a good warrior, Zoey, but that is most of what he knows: fighting. And if you ask him for advice, that is what he will tell you: how to solve your problem with fighting. But there are many ways to solve problems, and fighting is not always the best way. His advice was right... the bullies won't get you now... but it has consequences that now you must live with."

	Zoey's mouth twisted as she thought about what Ohu just said. She eventually nodded in agreement as tears started to form in her eyes. "I'll say I'm sorry." "I won't beat anyone else up." A pause. "Unless they try to beat me up first." (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)
