Flashback - Siege!
*BAM*

*BAM*

*BAM*

The pounding on the door was strong enough to make it sound like the door was being pounded in. Svalin ran to the door but she didn't open it. She knew it was her brother. "Thou'rt not going to take this hall!" she yelled out to her brother.

It was actually their house, but to Svalin at the moment it was a great hall to be defended at all costs. The princess of the realm, really a hunting dog, had to be protected and the hall had to be defended against the Dark Elves and Frost Giants. Said "princess" was sound asleep on a rug in front of the large hearth and enjoying the warmth of the fire.

Svalin was holding her wooden sword Father had made for her and upon her head she wore a great helm (one of their mother's cookpots they bent out of shape for dragon hunting). She wore her normal clothes, but did have a small dagger tucked in her belt.

She climbed up on a chair and then up on the table and moved to a nearby window. She pushed the window up and looked down at her brother.

Halbjorn is pounding away at the door with his third or fourth makeshift club. He'd already broken the wooden sword made for him, so now he's tearing up the fencing of Einmyria's garden to make new weapons... to break against the house, mostly.

"I'll have this fortress by sundown, Asgardian!" he yells back at her.

"Nay! Thou wilt ne'er take this sacred hall, Frost Giant!" she yelled back. Svalin had alternated between calling her brother a Dark Elf and a Frost Giant. At the moment he was a Frost Giant.

"Asgard wilt ne'er fall to the likes of thee!" She climbed down off of the table and ran over to the sink area. There was a bucket of water sitting on the floor next to the sink. Normally it would be used to wash dishes, but today it would serve as burning pitch.

Svalin hauled it to the table and hefted it up to the top of the table. Water sloshed onto the floor as she accomplished the feat.

He prefers being called a Frost Giant. Not only was it partially true - but giants are big. And Halbjorn takes a certain amount of pride in also being big - for a five year old, anyway.

Seeing the bucket of burning pitch, he begins tearing up the stones in the walkway to fling at the windows and into the house, trying to stop the dishwater... burning pitch... either, really, from being dumped on him. He has no substitute for a catapult, but the idea comes across, anyway, as he tries to hit the bucket - and probably ends up hitting some other things in the house with thrown stones in the process.

"Thine hall wilt be mine! If thou surrenderest now, puny little god, I wilt allow thee to live on as a serving wench!"

"Ne'er!" she yelled defiantly and tossed the "pitch" at the frost giant. Rocks struck and broke the top part of the window and Svalin ducked to avoid being hit. Some of the rocks sailed inside the open part and struck various things and the sound of things breaking was barely noticed by Svalin.

Svalin scurried off the table and went to collect the rocks. They would be thrown back at the attack frost giant.

Great, now he's soaking wet. The cold doesn't bother him in the least, but already simulating a battle that he's gotten into, plus the indignity of doing it soaking wet just makes him more determined, and blind to any idea of consequence.

While she's running around, he tears up more of the garden to find weapons, breaking two more barriers to use as clubs. He's smashing them on the door and walls, when the rocks start coming back at him.

He flings his weapons first, then gets into a rock pitching war - thank goodness for Asgardian durability, even in kids!
The bigger problem is that she has cover, he doesn't. He may be stronger - which he's using to launch his projectiles harder and harder - but she's more accurate and makes better use of strategy, while he's just a big target - getting pelted with rocks a lot.

He's yelling back at her, but its getting less and less coherent as threats.

Svalin ducked as the rocks came sailing into the house. The upper part of the window is about gone from the onslaught of rocks. She waited until there were a bunch of rocks inside the house and then started putting a plan into action.

She piled a few up near the window she was at and then went to other windows and piled rocks under those while he pounded on the door.

She went to the first window and threw all the rocks and then dashed to the other windows doing the same. This way he had rocks coming from different directions.

"Give up now!" she yelled. "Thou wilt ne'er succeed!"

She can adjust to every angle, and he has no real cover out here. The world starts to tunnel vision down to just one goal - get inside the house. Admitting defeat is entirely out of the question, even if he's the villain here.

Back to the edges of the garden, he strains at the base, finally tearing up one of Einmyria's immature apple trees. He staggers under its weight, weaving back and forth with the tree set over a shoulder - before he finally rights himself.

"Raaaaaahhhhrrr!" he howls, charging at more or less the direction of the door, with the tree as a battering ram.

Svalin wasn't quite expecting him to pull up a tree, but when he went for it she knew what to do. She ran to the table and pulled it over on its side. She pushed it up against the door to reenforce the door.

She braced herself for the inevitable crash against the door.

She has to dump everything off the table in turning it on its side, but she manages to get it in position just in time. The door cracks and splinters a bit, but holds. There's a few moments of quiet other than the frustrated shout, and then the heavy impact again. The door and table hold.

Halbjorn backs up, staggering and stumbling under the weight of the tree, but managing - getting far enough to get a /really/ good running start.

The door, reinforced by the table as it is, would hold - except he misses, and the roots and lower end of an apple tree come crashing through the wall six inches to the left of the door.

Svalin jumped from her spot against the table and grabbed her sword to rush at the hole in the wall. The fact that there was a hole in the side of the house didn't dawn on her. The only thing that mattered was keeping him out of the house.

"FOR ASGARD!" she yelled!

There's a shout of something that vaguely resembles 'For Jotunheim!', but really, its mostly incomprehensible.

She smacks him hard while he's still trying to extract his tree from the hole, then again. Finally, he pulls it free, staggering back, then going in another mad rush, whether at the wall again, the door, whatever, just trying to widen the gap and cause enough damage to get past the defense.

The hole was a problem, but not for long. While he's moving back to get ready for a mad rush, she slid the table over so it was covering the hole. She put her back against the table and waited for the collision.

The first time, the table slides a little, developing cracks, but holds. The second time, there's heavy, jagged cracks in the wood.

With a howl, he backs up, putting everything he can into a running charge. With more enthusiasm than accuracy, he misses the mostly broken table, putting the tree - which breaks under the impact, through the wall again - along with himself - though he trips over the foundation of the wall that remains, ending up flinging the remnants of the broken apple tree into a support beam. It shudders, then cracks - but holds, after just a bit of shaking.

Meanwhile, he's trying to get his dented and worn pot-helmet off his head so he can see, leaving him prone and wide open to an assault by the defender.

"FOR ASGARD!" she yelled and rushed at him. Her sword was in her hand, but Svalin went for plowing into him with her whole body instead of using her weapon.

He's just getting up, both hands struggling with the pot, which hit the wall with enough force to shove it down over his eyes, and bend it to conform more with his head.

She barrels into him, knocking him backwards, still blinded, and now the side of her sword has the pot ringing lick a gong along with the rest of the effects of the charge.

Unable to see or fight with any finesse, even were he given to such things, he just flails back at her.

Svalin tried to stop his blows, but they were wild and unpredictable. She took the blows, they did hurt, but she wasn't going to give up.

She brought her sword hand up and smashed the hilt down on the pot on his head.

He may be more durable, but he's also been hit by a lot more rocks, and she has a huge advantage in this fight. The ringing pot puts him off balance, sending him staggering. He grabs for her, partly to keep his balance, and partly to try and turn this into more of a wrestling match where the lack of vision and balance still hurts him, but not quite as badly.

Svalin knew she couldn't stand up against him if it was wrestling match. Hal had size and strength on her even at the age of five. Svalin had to fight differently.

She jumped back out of his reach while he tried to grab and then darted in low to swipe at his legs with her sword.

The blow hits and his leg buckles, though he does manage to almost get a grip, tearing one of the sleeves off her tunic on his way to the ground. There's a loud, hollow ringing as his 'helmeted' head strikes the stones, continuing to echo a bit as he sits up dizzily, fighting with the pot again and providing an easy target.

Svalin put the dull point of the wooden sword to his throat. "Yield," she said.

He's regaining hearing enough at that point that the sword, and her voice tells him where she is. Normally, he tries not to play too rough with his sisters... except when he forgets. This is one of those times. He smacks the sword out of the way with a hand, then slams his head forward towards the sound of her voice to try and get some room.

If he can get it, he pushes up, lowers his head, and tries to use the stupid pot as a battering ram in its own right. If its going to get in his way, it might as well be useful too.

Svalin had been looking down at him while she had the sword to his throat so when he comes up with his head, her face and his head connected.

There was a crack as her nose broke and blood started to pour out of it. Svalin stumbled backward a few steps.

Its a good thing the wall is already pretty broken up, because his mad charge carries him right through it, possibly carrying her along for the ride.

Svalin was carried out through the hole and onto the lawn. Once they were clear of the house, she struggled to get free of his grasp.

She's almost free when he finds his way back to his feet as well, screaming the whole time... which, echoes rather oddly under the pot.

Not quite loose, he tries another tackle, this one aiming them both at Einmyria's blackberries.
