Something's Fishy (Atlantis Attacks!)
The satellite image began with the United States Naval Destroyer, the USS Washington, in open ocean. For a moment, it seemed as though nothing unusual was going on, but then something broke the surface. It was a massive ship, shaped very much like some kind of gigantic fish. Weapons ports opened on the strange new vessel, blasting away at the destroyer. Other ships, equally marine-like in nature, surfaced and surrounded the destroyer, completing the process of blasting it to pieces.

The video stopped, and the Fantastic Four's SHIELD liason, Agent Doug Deeley, turned to the assembled heroes. "This is the fifth attack on US Naval forces in three months. We got lucky this time. Most of the crew survived. The craft are clearly Atlantean in origin, though we've been unable to determine if they're proper military forces or a rogue element. Attempts to contact any of the Atlantean royal family have failed."

The balding black man breathed heavily. "We therefore have to presume the worst."

He changed the projection on the screen to a naval map showing the Northeastern coast of the United States. "Strategic analysis of the attacks suggests that they're heading towards Manhattan. We've already alerted the Avengers, but as the Fantastic Four have more experience with Atlantis, we were hoping you'd be able to assist."

Kristoff frowned as he looked at the display. With one member of the team on a very stern maternity leave and two still adjusting to, essentially, new physiologies in very different ways, they did not need this right now.

"Of course we will do all we can. This does not seem typical of Namor, but it is very difficult to judge in these situations."

Andrea's learning curve had certainly been sharper than Vincent's, but this would also be a significant live-fire test for most of her new systems.

"Given that it is somewhat unlikely that Namor is responsible, are there any suspects? If I remember correctly, both Krang and Atuma are deceased."

Val nodded, not saying anything. This being her first real "mission" with the Fantastic Four, she was going to listen Kristoff...and try not to screw up.

Vincent bit at a thumb anxiously. It was a nervous habit he hadn't displayed in some time. The world was a much more threatening place for him, compared to a matter of weeks ago. Still, he wasn't about to hide from it.

He tugged at the mesh undersuit around his neck, still getting used to the fit of the armor Kristoff had constructed for him. It would afford him a not insignificant amount of protection and mobility, while Vincent was still able to provide the tactical and/or offensive elements himself.

How effective they would prove in combat in his new state would have to be seen.

"If it were actually his highness, then he would no doubt have issued a warning to Susan before open war was truly underway." Vincent offered his perspective. "A wide scale coup is unlikely, so my assumption would be a rogue element."

"That's our thinking as well," Deeley replied. "We don't have any suspects, but getting information out of Atlantis has always been a dicey proposition at the best of times."

He paused as his SHIELD communicator beeped. He answered it, responding in quick, one word answers.

As he replaced it on his belt, he turned to the Fantastic Four.

"That was the Heli-Carrier. There's just been another siting of the warships. We've got satellite tracking on them."

Kristoff nods at the first assessment, then, after the phone call.

"I see. Where are they?"

The lead warship was a carrier of some kind, shaped like a fish carrying a massive platform on its back. Atlantean soldiers armed with various types of weaponry and several on hovering single pilot vehicles, stood at the ready as it pushed its way through the sea.
Other warships also rode near surface level beside it.

At the lead of the troops on the warship stood a female Atlantean, scantily clad in bronzed bits of armor. Tall, powerfully built, the stood unmoving in the face of the ocean's spray.

Andrea, as was usual, was piloting the Fantasti-Car. They were at a high enough altitude that they likely should be avoiding detection, while the very advanced systems of the Car enabled them to monitor below.

"Attack suggestions, Kristoff?"

Vincent simply held back and awaited Kristoff's direction for now. He was still trying to assess what his new power levels would allow him to contribute.

While she no longer possessed the ability to generate invisible force fields like Valeria, Andrea did possess new weapons and equipment that more than made up for it (including a traditional force field), in this case a tractor beam.

"Between the two of us, I believe we should be able to handle it."

"I am ready."

Kristoff's evasive maneuvers are quite good, and manage to avoid a considerable portion of the firepower, but a stray shot breaks through, hitting the Fantasti-Car in the engines.

"Engine stability has been compromised," Andrea reported. "It may become necessary to abandon Fantasti-Car."

The ship began to slide back toward the ocean, many of the warriors falling into the drink. Not that that would stop Atlanteans, of course.

But enough of them remained able to fire on the FF.

Marrina was on monitor duty today and was, frankly, a bit bored. Canada just didn't have the kind of super-crime that went on south of the border in the United States.

On the other hand... something on the border watch had just pinged. Placed just at the international waters border were a variety of sensors for detecting incoming threats (largely Atlantean, she was certain, which was a topic for consideration at some time...)

She called up the satellite feed.

"Uh, guys?" she said over the comm. "You might want to get down here."
