Happy Belated Birthday!
Anya felt like a heel for missing Justin's birthday. It was the day after Toni's and it had slipped past her. She quickly gathered what she needed and pulled an all-nighter putting together an obscene laptop for him. The thing was two to three times faster than anything on the market and she installed her custom OS on it. He wouldn't have to worry about it crashing on him.

When it was finished she packed it up and shipped it by special courier to Justin.

Justin is at home gathering up a few more things to take to Xavier's when the courier arrives. He signs for the package and tries to think of a reason Anya would be sending him anything.

It takes fifteen minutes of thinking before Justin remembers what day passed this week. He's had so many terrible birthdays that remembering the date hasn't been worthwhile in years.

When he opens the laptop, however, he does smile and call Anya.

"It met my needs by working. It exceeds them with the awesome you put on it. I almost bought a Dell. Can you believe that?" Justin asks.

"Really, thank you, Anya. This will come in great handy." he says.

He pauses for a long moment before he asks his next question, as he can't imagine what it's costing Anya to think of someone else right now when she's going through her own issues.

"How are you holding up?" he asks gently.

"I wanted you to know that I've been working on a device that scans wavelengths for other universes. I was going to use to go home, but since I've come to really like it here...maybe it would be best used in helping to bring Steve home.

He's out there, Anya. I know it. And we can find him. I'm going to e-mail you my schematics and information so you can search from your end as well, if you want." Justin says.

	Anya was almost speechless. "Justin...that's...I would really appreciate it." She smiled. "You may just be giving your sister a run for the title of The Best." There was a small sigh. "I don't think Steve is going to rest until he gets back to you. Seriously, the man came back from a being /shot/. Something like a dimension switch isn't going to hold him down." Justin tells her.

"I might have to come check out M.I.T. sometime. I never got see it back home, at least, not in one piece and still standing." Justin says.

"The armor is good; I did a bit of a field test recently, but it was only the propulsion systems. I plan to test the weapon systems next." Justin informs her.

"Did he? Well, he asked to meet with me when he got back from his vacation, but then he canceled and said he'd catch up with me soon. If he likes it, though, I'm more than happy to talk about it." Justin says.

In a way, that made him proud. Really, it was all Tony's work, but Justin had been able to put it into action, and now Tony saw that he was good at what he did.

"How are things with the team down there?" Justin asks. He doesn't like the name she chose, but he knows it's just a coincidence and he'll just have to get used to it.

"I could actually use the help with that AI. I've been so busy making sure the armor actually /works/ that I figured I'd just whip up the AI on the fly, but that hasn't happened yet." Justin says. Oh, and Tina's been distracting him, too, but Anya didn't really need to know that, especially with Steve being away.

Justin did not consider Steve to be gone, just away for right now. Once that AI was put together, he'd need to install it in his lab, on his watch and a few other places.

"Hey, how's your mom? She hasn't shot Tony down yet for hovering, has she?" he asks.

"I will gladly work on one for you," she offered. The work would provide her with the distraction she would need to help keep her from moping about Steve.

"I was going to do some upgrades to Goddard and Darlene, but they can wait." She also needed to work on an LMD body for Darlene.

"She's doing well," Anya said. The whole body mix-up thing was weird, but her parents were coping. "Not yet. I don't think anyone is going to win the pool."

He knew that both Anya and Toni were suffering the same dilemma. He wanted to say something comforting to her, but Charlie had been gone for several months now. Justin didn't want to say anything to upset her.

He hands Toni her gift, which at first seems a simple Compact Disc.

"Those are the specs for the new armor I'm building for you, Toni. Maybe you can take a look at them and tell me if they suit you?" he asks.

"Oh, and thanks. Birthdays were decent affairs back home, but being on the run most of the time made celebrating hard. Mom and Dad tried when they could, though.

Speaking of...have you talked to Rhodey lately?" he asks.

Toni wondered sometimes if what she was doing to herself was right. It had been less than a week, a few nights of pleasure, and maybe a promise of something more... But hardly a "I'll love you forever" thing.

"Armor?" she asked. "I mean, that's great, Justin, and I really appreciate the effort, but I haven't used a suit in months. Don't... exactly need one anymore."

"Hopefully, you'll like this though," she added. The envelope she passed him contained gift certificates to Chipotle, which she'd heard through the grapevine he liked.

"Dad? Yeah, I saw him at the cookout, actually."

Damn. He was really not good at the whole birthday thing and it showed. He should have gone with his first instict: the iTunes gift card.

"Well, perhaps it can adapted to help out with your ability a little more? I know we don't know each other so well, but I really want to help you any way I can, Toni. You've been through a lot lately." Justin says.

His eyes definitely light up at the Chipotle gift certificates. Tina is going to love this. In fact, he might need to stop there on his way back to Xavier's.

"Thanks, Toni. Really, thank you." he says. "Oh, he was at the cookout. I was at the one up at Xavier's. I'm doing some work out there while Tina is busy with her own job." Justin says.

"Oh. Well, maybe I'll call him." Justin says, surprised that Rhodey asked about him. His mother accepted him right out when he arrived, and Toni and Anya have been good to him, too. But Mr. Stark and Mr. Rhodes have always been harder for him to understand and read, and he was pretty sure Rhodey only considered him an inconvenience.

He tried not to let it bother him, but it did, in some ways.

	Toni herself is unsure exactly how Justin is supposed to fit into their lives. If nothing else, the timing of his arrival had been especially bad. Her memories of what had happened to her during that time were mercifully nonexistent, but for those around her... "You should," she agreed. "Mom's doing good.
