Tell a Friend
Characters: Jenny & Sera.
Setting: Various locations throughout the Bon.
Content: SFW.
Summary: Sera is taking Jenny on a date, and they do lots of nerdy things together all while having some awkward conversation on the way.

Jenny had to say that this was one of the better dates that she had been on.

She hadn't, really, been on that many anyway. Quinn had never really called anything between them a date, even if some of the visits over vacations had been like dates, and boys never really wanted to go anywhere fun. Even Charlie usually just wanted to drive around all over the place. It was different going on a date with your best friend; best friends usually wanted to do the same thing that you did. The day had been just like regular hanging out, except getting to hold hands, and sneak little kisses when no one was paying attention.

They had started out the day at the New Orleans museum of art, and then moved on to get lunch. They had made their way to the Bon, gone to eat at Fat Tuesday's, and then visited Brain Freeze. Now, as Jenny was still working away at a cherry cheesecake cone, they were browsing their way through Old Tom's Tomes. When most people came to a book store with her, they always seemed to want to get what they needed and leave, but Sera was actually browsing. It was a welcome change.

She could get used to this.

She wasn't picking up anything herself, not wanting to slop any of her ice cream on it, but she peered carefully over Sera's shoulder to see what the brunette was reading. Her chin rested comfortably against said shoulder, her eyes trailing over the page. "Any good?" she asked, blinking a bit. Her free hand came to rest lightly on Sera's hip. "I'm really having fun," she added, smiling.

Sera was pleased things seemed to be going well. Jenny seemed to be having a good time from what she could tell, which was mostly all she really cared about. Sera had only ever been on two dates and she had never been the one to do the taking, until today. She hoped she was doing an okay job.

Sera had opted out of an ice cream from Brain Freeze, still too full from their lunch at Fat Tuesday's which was one of her favorite restaurants. She paid for Jenny`s cherry cone before heading over to the book store where she began browsing the history section.

"Yeah it's pretty interesting." Sera replied turning her head over her shoulder slightly to smile a Jenny. She felt a warm shiver come over her when Jenny touched her hip. She closed the book showing Jenny the cover. "Its about magic in Ancient Egypt." Sera explained, before placing the book back on the shelf where she found it. She turned, facing Jenny. "I'm having a lot of fun too." Sera smiled placing a quick kiss on Jenny's cheek, after first looking to make sure no one was watching. Not that she thought they really had to worry all that much about running into anyone from school, in a bookstore.

"Is there anything you wanna look at?" She asked, after quickly checking out another book or two.

"Nothing in particular. I ordered a bunch of books online not long ago.. Amazon had a really good sale. I got most of my stuff for like, twenty percent off of the regular price, plus iRewards!" Jenny replied, grinning wildly. "If my mother taught me anything, it's to look for a sale," she joked, pulling away from Sera some to wander over to another nearby shelf.

She let her fingertips run over the spines of the books, reading the titles in her head, just making sure there wasn't anything really interesting that they hadn't noticed yet. "I kind of had somewhere I wanted to go, but it's stupid."

Sera pulled out another book just long enough to check the cover before placing it back in it's exact spot. She wasn't really looking for anything in particular just checking out the collection. She followed behind Jenny to the next shelf.

"Tell me?" Sera grinned, happily. "I wanna do whatever you wanna do?"

"No, it's silly!" Jenny protested, though she was grinning a little bit herself. She turned slightly, giving Sera skeptical look, before shaking her head quickly. "You don't even believe in Divination, you're definitely going to think it's a dumb idea, you'll laugh," she added, just a bit of a hint. She returned her attention to the books, pulling one out and looking over the front of it for a moment.

"I won't laugh I promise." Sera smiled, placing a hand on one of Jenny's shoulders. It was true she was never a big fan of Divination, to her it always did seem a little silly but she was eager to see what Jenny had it mind. "Just tell me." She tried again.

Jenny seemed hesitant, looking at Sera seriously, and then staring ahead at the bookshelf again. When Sera touched her shoulder, she smiled a little, turning her head just a bit to look at the brunette. "I kind of want to go to Cards & Stars. Don't you think it'd be fun to get our fortunes told?"
imperfectly From: [info]imperfectly Date: February 2nd, 2011 10:41 pm (UTC) (Link)
"I doubt I'll believe what they have to say or give it much value but if you wanna go then I would love to." Sera smiled, grabbing one of Jenny's hands, she tried to get the blond to face her.

"Lets go, you're right! It might be fun, I've never actually even been there before." Sera continued. It was silly, she knew but she was a little intrigued, and besides it would probably be funny if nothing else.
867_5309 From: [info]867_5309 Date: February 2nd, 2011 11:22 pm (UTC) (Link)
"I'm not going if you're just going to laugh or something," Jenny replied, turning to face her, and giving her a stern pout. "This is a big deal, it's like.. a real talent. You can't go in and be ignorant just because you think it's dumb," she warned, reaching up to give Sera's nose a playful little pinch. "Seriously."
imperfectly From: [info]imperfectly Date: February 3rd, 2011 12:45 am (UTC) (Link)
"Okay got it" Sera told Jenny, scrunching her face when Jenny pinched her nose. "I promise to hold all my laughter till after we leave. I'm not going to be rude or anything." Sera assured her, sticking her tongue out playfully at the blond.

Only staying at the bookstore for no more than a few minutes longer, the two girls made there way across The Bon to Cards and Stars. Sera wanted to reach for Jenny's hand on their walk over, but was scared Jenny would pull away and didn't want to risk feeling stupid. The Bon was a pretty busy spot after all.

She let Jenny lead the way inside.

When they stepped into the shop, Jenny took a quick glance around. She had never actually come here to have her fortune read, although she had always wanted to. She had been struck with Divination from the minute she began learning about magic, and even if other people didn't believe in the sight or thought that reading tea leaves was dumb, Jenny loved it all.

"I'm not a hundred percent sure how this works," she admitted to the other girl, with another glance around. It was quiet in here, a stark contrast to the majority of the Bon, which was usually louder than all hell with the boisterous sounds of their classmates. "Do you even think they take cash?" she whispered.

Henri Gravis patted his sister hand as he watched the two girls walk into the shop. Odille rose and with her brothers help, they quietly glided through the shop and up to Jenny and Sera. "Hello girls," she said smoothly. "Was there something we could help you with?" her cloudy, blind eyes flicking around the shop.

Henri tapped her shoulder once more and Odille smiled. "Perhaps a tarot readin'?" she suggested warmly.
imperfectly From: [info]imperfectly Date: February 3rd, 2011 02:11 am (UTC) (Link)
"Um Yeah." Sera spoke up, looking up from the candles she had been eying. "We were wondering about having our fortune told but we aren't actually sure how this works." Sera glanced quickly over at Jenny and then back at Odille and Henri.

"Is that okay with you?" Sera asked, looking back at Jenny once again. She figured since it was her idea and she was the once who was actually into this sort of thing that it was better to let her decide.

867_5309 From: [info]867_5309 Date: February 3rd, 2011 02:15 am (UTC) (Link)
"Yeah, that's fine," Jenny agreed, smiling a little. She reached over, hooking her arm into Sera's loosely, as if either trying to reassure her or tease her. Maybe a mix of both. "We'd love a tarot reading. If you have the space to fit us in," she added, returning her attention to the siblings standing in front of her.

The shop was empty other than the four of them, so she figured there ought to be time, but it was only polite to ask.
crescentcitynpc From: [info]crescentcitynpc Date: February 3rd, 2011 02:57 am (UTC) (Link)
"Right this way dearies," Odille said waving with one arm. Henri nodded and led Odille back to their chairs. He silently offered two seats to Jenny and Sera and took his own next to his twin.

"Henri will read, I will act as a translator of sorts," she explained.
imperfectly From: [info]imperfectly Date: February 6th, 2011 10:14 pm (UTC) (Link)
Sera took her seat and waited as Jenny did the same next to her, scooting her chair in just slightly to get a good view of the table. She peered sceptically across at Odille and her brother, trying to keep it hidden with a smile. This was definitely not something she would ever do on her own.

"So are you ready to see what the future has in store?" Sera laughed, looking over at Jenny.
867_5309 From: [info]867_5309 Date: February 6th, 2011 10:49 pm (UTC) (Link)
Jenny took her own seat, mimicking Sera and scooting her chair up slightly. She let her hands rest on the table, just barely, as she looked over at the brunette for a moment. "I'm ready if you are," she joked, smiling.

She returned her attention to the siblings on the other side of the table. "I guess we're ready whenever," the blonde said, resisting the urge to reach over and squeeze Sera's hand briefly. She brushed her leg against hers instead, just a little. She didn't want to come off overly excitable, but this was sort of amazing. She had never gotten a reading from a real legitimate source, if you didn't count professors.
crescentcitynpc From: [info]crescentcitynpc Date: February 6th, 2011 11:25 pm (UTC) (Link)
"Of course," Odille responded kindly. Henri drew out a deck of tarot cards and slid them across the table. He set them between the two girls and tapped them with his finger.

"Who would like to shuffle the cards first?" she asked.
imperfectly From: [info]imperfectly Date: February 7th, 2011 12:04 am (UTC) (Link)
Sera glanced Jenny a look, just to make sure she didn't seem too eager to go first. She looked back across the table. "I guess I'll go." She spoke up, reaching out for the cards.

She tried to her best to shuffle before laying the deck back down in front of her. Sera had made a promise to Jenny to take their trip to Stars and Cards serious, and she really had been trying. She even found herself a little excited as she waited for the first card to be read.
867_5309 From: [info]867_5309 Date: February 7th, 2011 12:58 am (UTC) (Link)
Jenny was pretty happy when Sera said she would go first. She had been expected her to not want to go at all, possibly explain how tarot cards were not logical in the slightest, but she was actually pretty relaxed about it. Jenny couldn't help but be a little proud.

She watched Sera shuffle the deck, scooting up again a she set it down, waiting for the reading to begin. She was almost holding her breath.
crescentcitynpc From: [info]crescentcitynpc Date: February 7th, 2011 01:17 am (UTC) (Link)
Henri took the deck back and laid out the top three cards, in a series of taps and jabs to his sister he let her know it was quite the lay out. "The Death card," she said pointing to the first card. "Do not look so frightened," she said although her blind eyes could not see the girls. "It tells us that you are a facing a big change," she explained. "Perhaps several big changes," she said a bit vaguely.

"The Ace of Cups," Odille said with a smile. "There is a new love in your life, is there not young lady? A very exciting time indeed," she said kindly.

"And last but not least, the blind folded lady, Seven of Swords. You need to find a balance in your life. Do not focus too much on one thing or another. Make peace with all the new things in your life and you will find yourself able to cope with the changes coming your way."

"Any questions for Henri?"
imperfectly From: [info]imperfectly Date: February 10th, 2011 12:31 am (UTC) (Link)
Sera held back a smirk, the death card of course. Take this serious She grinned to herself. For Jenny. She glanced over and gave the blond a smile. Maybe it wasn't complete non-sense, she thought for a moment. She, they were facing a big change?

With the flip of each card, Sera didn't say anything she just tried to take it in. She couldn't help but smile at the second card? How did she know that? "Yeah I guess you could say that." Sera added sheepishly. She tried to look at Jenny without being too obvious but it was difficult. Her face lit up every time she looked towards the blond.

Sera sighed with the last card. Right again, she thought silently. Lucky guesses?, had to be. Those things could apply to just about anyone. couldn't they?

Sera thought for a moment, trying to think of what to say. "What kind of changes?" Sera asked finally, looking curiously at Henri and back to Odille. "Can you tell?"
crescentcitynpc From: [info]crescentcitynpc Date: February 10th, 2011 01:07 am (UTC) (Link)
Henri smiled briefly, curiosity was something he could appreciate in anyone. He flipped the top card of the deck over and placed it on top of the Death card. A few taps let Odille know what the card meant.

"The Moon," Odille said ominously. "This card tells us that the source of this change is a mystery to you now but it will be revealed in time through dreams, visions, illusions," she sat forward a little. "There is dark, primal magic at work," she said in a low voice. It is a dangerous time, inspiring madness in some and creativity in others. Again, remain vigilant when the the darkness comes."
imperfectly From: [info]imperfectly Date: February 10th, 2011 01:42 am (UTC) (Link)
Sera sat back a little in her chair. She wasn't sure what to think. She still didn't exactly buy it but she still couldn't stop the worried feeling that pasted over her. Her mind went immediately to school, a lot of strange things had been happening?, she thought, Could they be a result of the dark, primal magic she spoke of?.

She tried to take her eyes off the table and the cards. She couldn't, even knowing that Jenny had to be freaking out beside her, she really believed in this stuff. "What darkness? What's going to happen?" Sera blurted out, without thinking. It was hard to ignore, even if it was all just lucky guesses which Sera knew it had to be. What if it wasn't? If something worse was going to happen she had to know, had to be prepared.

"The cards are not telling us exactly," Odille said gently, trying to soothe the brunette girl. "Just be on the look out. You must watch out for the sneaks and the tricksters," she said with a final nod.
867_5309 From: [info]867_5309 Date: February 10th, 2011 03:22 am (UTC) (Link)
Jenny was definitely a little spooked. Some of the enthusiasm was gone from her face, and when words like dark and primal started flying around, she had almost had enough. She had reached out, grabbing Sera's knee, and just holding her hand there as she listened.

When Odille addressed Sera with finality, leaving them both wondering, Jenny quickly spoke up. "I'll go," she piped in, glancing at Sera. "While she chews that one over."
crescentcitynpc From: [info]crescentcitynpc Date: February 10th, 2011 03:35 am (UTC) (Link)
Odille nodded to Jenny as Henri shuffled the cards back. He placed them in front of Jenny. "Go ahead dear," Odille told the blonde. "Shuffle the deck."

Once they were shuffled Henri proceeded with the same layout he had used to Sera. His eyes went wide when he read the cards and he looked to his sister.

"Another interesting lay out," Odille said after Henri tapped on each card, giving his sister the wordless code they had devised years ago. "The Page of Swords," she said. "You have received a message as of late from an unknown source. You must be careful with this message and what you do with it dear. Rumors and falsehoods may be the result of a poorly handled message."

She moved on to the second card, Odille's voice dropped. "The Tower," she said darkly. "Henri thinks these readings are connected, he thinks that this is the darkness coming your way. It will shake your foundations to the core and when it is over there will only be the truth, fully exposed," she said ominously.

"The Eight of Wands," she said of the last card. "You must face this challenge without fear in your heart. You can see the in the picture on the card that the girl pushes all others out of the way and strides right up to the lion," she said describing the card she could not see. "Use this girl as your example. Face the beast with no fear," she said gently.

Jenny had been really hoping for a simple reading, maybe something like Sera's first card. Something about new love, maybe something about hiding things from family.. something familiar, conscious, that she could make heads or tails out of. What Odille told her did not fall into this category.

Her hand on Sera's knee had tensed up, clutching at the fabric of her jeans. She exchanged a very brief glance toward the brunette, before looking back to the siblings.

"I.. can't help but notice that this wasn't a really positive reading," she managed, trailing off for a moment. "How am I supposed to do that.. any of that stuff?"

She glanced at her lap quickly. "I have fear in my heart just hearing things like that. I had.. a message, that was true. It's been.. hard to forget about," she admitted. When compared to Sera, Jenny was taking this much harder, much more seriously. To her, this was very real, and very troubling.
crescentcitynpc From: [info]crescentcitynpc Date: February 10th, 2011 04:16 am (UTC) (Link)
Odille nodded in response. "Henri and I believe that the cards are very connected to each other, when the first reading picked up on this... darkness," she said looking down at the Tower card again. "It couldn't let go. It's simply giving us a more detailed reading of the events this time around."

Henri looked at the blonde giving her a reassuring look and flipped over another card. "Strength," Odille said recognizing the card instantly. "It is scary when you look at these readings and thinking you are alone, but you are far from alone in this endeavor. Your numbers are many and your resilience is strong. Find courage in your friends."
867_5309 From: [info]867_5309 Date: February 10th, 2011 04:53 am (UTC) (Link)
There was no deny the way those words immediately soothed Jenny. Worked up as she had been, she definitely had felt more isolated than she really was. She did have great friends, and whatever this darkness was.. well, they'd have each other, anyway. She released some of her grip on Sera's leg, tickling her fingers across the brunette's kneecap for a few seconds before speaking.

"Courage in my friends," she murmured. "I think I can pull that off. I know a lot of them are more brave than I am, so I guess I could learn from that."
imperfectly From: [info]imperfectly Date: February 12th, 2011 02:46 am (UTC) (Link)
Listening as Jenny's cards were read, Sera had a few minutes to think things over. This was silly t, why was she allowing her self to believe any of this.

Sera let Jenny finish and then spoke. Trying to sound as polite as she could. "How is it possible that you know for certain that something bad, or several bad things are going to happen but can't tell us a single detail about what's actually going to happen." She looked at Jenny and mouthed a quick 'sorry'. "How do we know you aren't just making all this up to freak us out?"
867_5309 From: [info]867_5309 Date: February 13th, 2011 09:18 pm (UTC) (Link)
Jenny's eyes widened, and she quickly gave Sera's leg a swift kick from beside her. "She doesn't mean it like that," the blonde quickly blurted, giving the two adults her best innocent smile. Maybe she could still smooth this over. "You might have guessed that my friend isn't a.. strong believer of anything she can't physically touch or provide a logical explanation for."
