Summary Mari is surprisingly working hard on an art assignment

If it wasn't for the music blaring out of her headphones, Mari probably could have gone unnoticed. She was tucked up in a corner, her hat pulled over most of her face and a very un-Mari like expression of seriousness on her face. Art was the only subject she liked, and it was all she wanted to do when she was a grown up. It was maybe the only thing she could safely say she was talented with and therefore deserved her free time.

On the easel in front of her was the beginnings of a still life study, an array of colourful potions bottles set on a stool next to her that she was copying. The late afternoon sun shone through them and created little rainbows of light, which Mari was trying to capture before the sun dipped too low. Every now and again she would tut, grab her wand and erase a brush stroke until the paint looked perfect.

Sitting back she smiled and began using her wand to dry the wet pain before adding another layer, using the time to stretch her back and look around the room lazily. She wondered where all the other art geeks were, usually the room was bustling after an assignment had been set.

Although she was never much of an artist when it came to sketching or drawing anything, when it came to splashing a few strokes of paint onto a canvas, Brody wasn't quite as bad. Sometimes it was fun to just hang around the art room, and she did so quite often, when she wasn't hovering around the drama club on her off days. On this afternoon, Brody was heading up to art, decided on spending a little while painting something out. Even if the strokes weren't perfect, they helped her relax.

It was one of the few artistic things that she did that didn't stress her out at some point. With things like music and acting, there was always competition. Painting wasn't really a competitive wager for most people.

Pushing open the door to the art room, Brody peered inside briefly, before checking her watch. Was it really that late? And the room was this empty? She had even almost missed Mari at first. Other than her, it was empty. Something had to be up. Stepping inside, already hearing Mari's music blasting away, she glanced over at the other girl. The serious look was indeed very un-Mari, and Brody set out to change it, grabbing up an elastic from one of the tables full of supplies. Stretching it between her thumb and finger, she flicked it over in Mari's direction, aiming for pretty much anything below the neck. Taking her eye out probably wouldn't go over as well.

"Bitch, pay attention to me!" she joked, unsure if Mari would even hear her.

Mari thought she heard something and pulled an earbud out just as the elastic bounced off her shoulder.

"Fuck you" you teased. "Can't you see I'm doing very important things?" By now she was lounging back on her chair, unwrapping a candy bar and shoving it in her mouth.

"Yeah, you look totally absorbed in the brilliance of it all," Brody replied coyly, laughing. She pushed away from the table she had been somewhat leaning on, making her way over to where Mari was instead. She found a closer table, climbing up slightly to sit on it's edge, crossing her legs as she did so.

She leaned forward slightly, looking at Mari's canvas, and then back to the other girl. "Not bad. You got any more of that candy, ho? I'm dying here."
