Home Again, Home Again
It was so good to be back. Sylvie was making her way across furniture and particularly sturdy bits of wall decor, everything just like it was supposed to --  Oh. They moved that chair in the front atrium. She couldn't reach it now.

"The nerve, not preserving everything, amberlike, to await my return," she joked to herself as she climbed down and made her way across the floor. For good measure, she grabbed the chair with her top arms and very slowly but surely dragged it towards its more convenient spot.

"People have a way of changing things." comes the response from the next room.
"But hopefully this will help. I need a guinea pig or two to try some of these sugar cookies I made following old German and Norwegian recipes to give to Moira and Danielle's family for a taste of home. I'm not sure if I did them right, not used to such a well stocked kitchen. Make you a deal, tell me where things should go, and I'll move furniture, if you'll eat cookies and tell me what you think?"

Sylvie looks up, grinning, from the chair that she could totally get to the right place eventually, don't get her wrong. "So I'm bribing you with eating your cookies? That has to be one of the best plans I've ever heard."

He has absolutely no doubt as to her capabilities, but this will be quicker, and is a way to convince willing victims to try the cookies. "You are indeed. I'm going to need a few opinions. This is only a test batch, so feel free to help yourself and make suggestions while you direct the moving process."

"Do I smell..." came a voice, as Rachel rounded the corner, "cookies?"

Surprise overtook everything else. "Sylvie!"

"We have a deal -- Rachel!" Sylvie handsprings over to her. "First: So good to see you! Second: Join me in this cookie situation."

"What's this I hear about cookies now?" Lyta entered the room, a grin on her face. "Hey Sylvie. Thought that was you I heard."

"There is a dire cookie situation. I'm testing out half a dozen traditional Norwegian and German recipes to come up with a gift for Moira's family, but I need cookie testers to tell me which ones are best and which need work. I'm not really used to a fully stocked kitchen and not kind of making due, so I need feedback from the brave volunteers."

Rachel smiled. "What is this? Old home week? First Lyta, and now you? How come nobody tells me anything anymore?"

"The element of surprise. Always works." Lyta smirked.

She grins. "Lyta!" Then to Rachel. "I believe I said something last year about being back 'around-next-Christmas-ish.' People these days. You need things repeated, and you move the chairs." She gets herself a cookie "Which, if you could get that right over there about five feet from the wall, Lucas--" she points with a free hand. "While I get started with Test Group A."

"...Test group?" Rachel asked, cautiously. She'd heard that tone from Uncle Hank before. "What's in those?"

Lyta grabbed a cookie off the plate. "Hopefully, something that won't turn us all purple or something."

Lucas continues shifting the furniture about as Sylvie directs.
"I'm pretty sure you're safe from turning purple. Those ones are butter, sugar, eggs, flour, almond and vanilla, the second is shortening, sugar, eggs, flour, cardamom, cinnamon, almonds and orange juice, the third is brown and white sugar, butter, eggs, salt, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, flour and oats, the other three are just variations on Norwegian sugar cookies, though the last one has maraschino cherries baked in. Just trying to figure out which ones get the best ratings, or if any of them are close, but need more or less of something."

Sylvie takes a bite of control group F in between thanking and directing Lucas. "The cherries work surprisingly well."

"There, that's advice I can use. The only real difference between those last two is the cherries. I'll need more opinions, but will note a mark in their favor." he adds as he shifts one of the couches.

Lyta perked her head up. "Cherries?" She grabbed an F-group cookie, taking a bite of it. "Mmhm...they do." She took a cookie from the third group. "The vanilla is a nice little touch."

"Cool indeed. It's been an amazing year, but I've missed all of you."

"In Group C," she indicates. "The nutmeg may be a bit much. I'm not anti-nutmeg, mind. Just, with what you're trying to do here..."

"I'm not very used to a full spice rack, I'm just following traditional recipes. Normally this is a ways out of my expertise. So noted, less nutmeg, but the sugar cookies with cherries are winners." he finishes moving the last chair.

"I think we're set, everything back where it should be?"

"More than welcome." he replies to Sylvie, pulling up one of the larger cushions usually for extra seating when the room is particularly packed, preferring the floor to the chairs and couches, settling in near the old friends to listen in.

A reddish haired fourteen year old boy came around a corner and raced past the small gathered group.

A moment later a very wet, bathrobe wearing, angry Cait came running after him. Her hair was streaked bright red and her skin was more reddish in color.

"I'm going to kill you, Rufus Drake!" she yelled in Latin as she ran after her brother.
