Earth Below Us Drifting Falling Floating Weightless Calling Calling Home
Kalypso hovered high above the Earth in the Mesosphere close to Kármán line where the Earth's atmosphere ended and space began. She looked down at her home planet, the small blue sphere spinning below her. From this height it looked so peaceful and so calm. There was no sound, no air, and only cold. It was almost perfect. Kalypso could stay up here for a very long time.

As much as she wanted to stay there, she knew she couldn't. She had to go to Olympia and talk to Ikaris and the other Eternals. The images that she pulled from the minds of the heroes were disturbing and what they meant was disturbing. It had unnerved her enough that she had barely slept in the past month. She really didn't need to sleep, but she liked doing it, especially with Jack next to her. Kal liked dreaming.

Kalypso enjoyed the calm and peace

War with the deviants would come soon. That much was guaranteed. Eventually they would strike at their ancient enemies, the Eternals. The war between the Eternals and deviants had been going on for tens of thousands of years, ever since the first days after the Celestials created the Eternals and the deviants.

Kal stared down at the planet. Being up here emphasized the point that she was pulling farther and father away from humanity. She had always known she was different, at one point believing she was just a mutant, and a little separate from normal humans. Now it was entirely different. She was an Eternal and even farther from humanity than before. This upcoming war would pull her even farther away.

A few more minutes and then she'd go to Olympia.

Iason hates sleeping.
To be honest, sleeping would be an interesting experience, were it not for the dreams. The dreams are important, sometimes vitally so, but they remind him that he's not only not human, he's not an Eternal - not really. He isn't just an immortal being tied to all the days of Earth, he's an eternal being of the cosmos, for his dreams, when he permits them, go so far, far beyond Earth.

He doesn't need to sleep. So most often, he doesn't. But this hasn't been a normal time. So last night, he allowed himself to sleep. And in that sleep, he saw so many things. Things he's going to need time to decipher and understand.

But one thing was clear, he saw his cousin, here, floating weightless to the sad, sad strains of an Earth song about spotlights and losing religion.

He's almost silent as he joins her, looking down at the planet below for a few moments, before he says the only words that he can in a moment like this, as he reaches out to touch her mind.

*I'm sorry.*

Kal smiled a little when she saw her cousin, her attention drawn away from the blue sphere below her. *Don't be sorry for the way of things*, she replied. *It's just how things are.*

He shakes his head. *I cannot be sorry for what I have no wrought. But my presence brings you more fully into these affairs. Without the influence of other Eternals, some of our number have lived a century or two among mortals undisturbed. I would wish it so for you.*

He sighs and pauses for a bit, looking down at the planet.
*And I am sorry for what comes. I've been sleeping.*

*I would have been dragged in whether or not you were here. It is just the way of things. It was a matter of time until the deviants became strong enough again to threaten the Eternals and the world.*

Kal looked over at her cousin.

*You usually don't sleep. What gives?*

*I prefer not to dream when it is not important. It seemed important. In my rest, three visions came to me before I saw your location here, amidst great sadness. Before that, I saw Thanos. Far away, but the cosmos hates him. His hand reached, so transparent as to be nigh invisible, across the galaxy, six gems radiating about his hand, and numbers, meaningless and forever in some sort of strange equation passing through the stars with his reach.
And then I saw the deviants, and a great war shall erupt, some people lost and returned, and though he is gone, the great devil Set will have his hand in the affair yet.
And most near to hand, I saw the ancient enemy of both our parents, En Sabbah Nur, shifting the pieces and places of the world like game pieces. He is close now, and even awake, my senses tell me they hear and smell his hand in many places.
And finally I saw you, lost here and alone. And for it all, you will, you must, stand as an Eternal. If for nothing else than because you should have been the oracle, not me. You have the finer mind for it, and making sense of such events. But even so, I could not wish this 'gift' on anyone else. But I will need your help and guidance - through all these things. And for that, I'm sorry.*

*Dreaming is the best part of sleeping. Though I guess with prophetic visions I can understand why you don't like doing it.*

Kalypso frowned. *A vision with my uncle is never a good thing.* Kalypso had learned a lot about her father's side of the family, including her Uncle Thanos. It was never fun to learn that you were closely related to one of the biggest bad guys in the entire universe.

*Maybe after we visit Olympia we should visit Titan. It would not hurt to inform them of what is happening with the deviants and about the vision about Thanos. You should also inform your father about the vision of En Sabbah Nur. The Avengers as well.*

Kal shook her head. *I am a deceiver and an illusionist, not an oracle. I would not do well with knowing what was to come. You give me too much credit to think I could handle it.*

She sighed. *The war is about the only thing I think I can deal with at this point.*

*That is the worst part of being an oracle, to know what is coming whether you can deal with it or not. We should definitely warn Titan of Thanos. His scheme seems to involve the entire universe. The deviants are also a grander threat than before.*

He sighs, considering the world a bit longer.
*We should warn them of En Sabbah Nur, but at least from my impression, I do not think that is a battle they will fight. Either because he has already accounted for them, or with other matters and crises erupting. That path, I fear, is mine this time. I do not see my father's hand in it, nor your mother's, but I cannot see why.*

Kal nodded. *After we warn Olympia we can warn Titan. They need to know about Thanos and about possibly need to help their cousins on Earth. And it will give me another chance to see my father.*

Kal nodded again. *They need to be aware of what could happen with En Sabbah Nur. They will spread the word to the other superhero teams and hopefully things will not get as bad as they would without warning. Even if they are not directly involved in the events.*

*We can hope for that, at least. The Deviants are our concern, the rest we can certainly share, even if the warnings are vague things at best. Unfortunately I'm terrible at interpreting these things, having preferred to avoid them when I can. I admit to being slightly uncomfortable going to the Avengers and warning them 'Thanos is coming, he appears to be doing math.'*

*Forewarned is forearmed. They need to know En Sabbah Nur is stirring and there could be problems with Thanos. If you tell the right Avengers, they will know how dangerous doing math can be. We cannot tell them about the deviants. They will want to help and the mortals should not get involved.*

Kal looked at him. *Go ahead and ask your question, cousin.* Kal wasn't used to people who hesitated to speak. She had grown up with her mother after all.

Iason is not normally the hesitant sort. There's just a few exceptions.
*When these types of matters come up, things not for mortal ears, how do you approach or explain to Jack? There is... a mortal girl I feel strongly about, and I do not want to drive a wedge between us, but I cannot further endanger her or draw her into Eternal matters either.*

*These types of things have never come up before, but most likely I will tell him it's Eternals' business and the Avengers need him more if we fail." She shrugged. *I can't even think of another way to put it.*

He nods once, looking down at the world very quietly for some time, waiting for her to signal some readiness to go.

Kal placed a hand on his one shoulder. *She will understand and her feelings for you will not change. As long as you return in the end.* Kal offered him a small smile. *Ready to go see your father?*

*For that, I have been ready. Facing my father and the eternals is not a trial. It is mortals who continually perplex me. After Titan, I should also warn my mother and through her link to him find Adam Warlock. I may be away for a time.*

*I will, difficult a role as playing among mortals is to take back up now. At least until Titan though, we can travel together. You can tell me how poorly I did.*
Yes, he's joking. Mostly.

*But of course.* It'd been a long time since he'd indulged himself in racing, usually versus comets and the like when he was little.
And, to make sure its fun, like he did back then, win or lose, he makes sure its close.
