Characters: Sibyl and OPEN
Setting: Sunday evening, the commons.
Ratings: SFW most likely
Summary: Sibyl dares to venture outside to try her craft.

So maybe it wasn't the best time to be outside. The sun was setting and it was quickly getting dark. Still, Sibyl was perched underneath one of the lamps in the commons so that she could see in the fading light. That also put her closer to a building in case she had to duck inside.

One of the things she had been attempting to work on in Divination class was her automatic writing ability. If one could call it an ability instead of a curse or something. Still, the point of some exercises was to help her be able to command it. Use it when she wanted it. That was much easier said than done.

Sibyl spent a long stretch of time crouched over her notebook, letting the pen make a series of lazy swirls on the paper as she closed her eyes and hoped for something. Anything. Instead, she got nothing. Frowning, Sibyl sat back and let out a little frustrated huff.

"Sib! Have you totally lost it, or haven't you heard? There be monsters about!" Chuck grinned as she stepped up beside the ginger-haired Senior. She had a backpack slung over one shoulder and a shoulder bag slung over the other. Wearing her robes because she hadn't had a chance to head back to her room to change since classes and some of her other activities had ended. Technically, that's where she was headed now.

She knew Sibyl from classes. They only had Charms together this year, but they'd had other classes together in previous years. The quiet redhead was friendly when they spoke and Chuck always felt more or less comfortable around her. She was a little odd, but everyone at CCI seemed to have their quirks. "You look a little intense, focusing on something important?"

Having been so distracted by the failure in the notebook in front of her, Sibyl jumped at the sudden sound of the voice next to her. She truly didn't notice the other girl approaching. Still, she turned to look up and offered the girl a nice smile despite the temporary pounding of her heart in her chest.

She brushed over the monsters comment, knowing that it wasn't necessarily a good idea to be sitting outside near nightfall. Even if the rumors were highly exaggerated. The redhead had to nod at the question, though. "No, not really anything important. Failed divination."

Chuck made herself comfortable on the same bench as Sibyl, crossing her ankles and leaning back on one hand. She had noticed her jump at the sound of her voice and she wrinkled her nose in apology. "Didn't mean to startle you."

Chuck barked a laugh and shook her head. "Well don't look at me. Next to Defense Against the Dark Arts, I pretty much suck at Divination. Potions, though, I've got those down. So, what are you trying to divine?"

She settled her purse in her lap and rummaged around. She gave a triumphant grin when she found what she was looking for. Individually wrapped Lindt chocolate truffles, milk chocolate with a creamy peanut butter center. She pulled out two and held one out to Sibyl. "Chocolate?"

Sibyl looked down at the notebook in her lap and all of the connected loops her pen had made as she tried to connect and frowned. "I don't really know. Anything, I guess. We have monsters running around campus, so I guess I was hoping for something that might have helped."

Her eyes were torn from the paper at the mention of chocolate, and she couldn't help the "Oooh" of interest as she took one of the offered pieces with a small thanks before she continued. "I've got runes with me, too, but that's more general. 'Bad omens' and the like."

Sibyl spoke as she unwrapped the chocolate and popped it in her mouth. A moment later, she smiled. "I love these things."

"That would be nice. I'm actually surprised they asked for student help with the search in the woods. I am definitely not brave enough to go hunting in the woods." She unwrapped her candy after Sibyl took the one offered to her. Rather than putting it in her mouth whole, she took a nibble out of it. She savored everything.

She cut her eyes to the redhead. "Well, if there aren't bad omens abounding here, I don't know what to call them. Some bad juju is happening here, y'know?" She took another nibble from her chocolate and sighed. "They really are delicious." She inspected the peanut butter filling and then took another bite.

"D'you ever get anything when you do that?" She gestured idly toward the pen and paper.

Sibyl shook in her head, though in agreement with Chuck. "Neither am I. I never was very good a dueling and I'm not gutsy enough to go out looking for whatever is causing all the problems around her. All the, as you say, bad juju."

Her eyes went back to the paper and with a frown, she closed the notebook and set it aside for the moment. "Not very often. At least when I do it on purpose. That's one thing I'm trying to learn in Divination. It's when it does something when I don't want it to that it gets scary."

Chuck had been forbidden from participating in any dangerous activities. She was under careful watch at school and if she did anything that seemed remotely reckless, her parents would take away her credit cards. Or worse, make her go on medication. So whether or not she'd felt brave enough to go, she wouldn't have been allowed to anyway. "Well, hanging out here after dark is pretty gutsy. We're like... living on the edge right now, you know?" She laughed softly and fished around in her purse once more. She was certain she had more than two chocolates in there.

There had been a rumor that something had happened at Sam's New Year's Eve party with Sibyl and someone else's notebook being written in. But Chuck didn't bring that up. She was aware that Sibyl was special. "Yeah, that would pretty much freak me out. I suck at divination anyway, but accidentally being stellar at it would really make me question my sanity." She paused a moment and then held out a hand, her other still rummaging in her purse. "Not that I think you're insane or anything... just, that would be kinda freaky, y'know?"

She pulled two more of the peanut butter truffles out of her purse and handed one to Sibyl. "Last two," she mourned, unwrapping hers carefully before taking a little nibble.

Sibyl nodded in agreement to Chuck's statement, though she hardly considered herself to be the sort to live on the edge. It was a bit on the risky side sitting outside on campus as they were but at least she kept herself close to a door so that there was somewhere to run if necessary.

She took the last offered piece of chocolate with a smile, unwrapping it as she replied. "Thanks. For the chocolate and not thinking I'm insane. Sometimes I think I am, and yes. It's really freaky. I've been dealing with it for years and it still scares the crap out of me."

This time she didn't simply pop the chocolate into her mouth. Instead she only at part of it at first, taking more time to enjoy it. "So. You just hanging around the commons and living on the edge, or were you heading somewhere?"

Chuck smiled as Sibyl thanked her for not thinking she was crazy. "Well, I think everyone has a little bit of crazy inside them." Herself included. "But I don't think yours is any worse than anyone else's." Well, maybe it was, but at least she wasn't on suicide watch.

"How old were you when it first started?" She said years, but how long was that? Was she ridiculed for it when she was younger? They all had their demons, she guessed.

"I was heading back to my dorm, but I'm not in any hurry." She took another nibble of her chocolate and sighed softly. It was nice, being outside, indulging in some chocolate and a little chat time with someone she considered a friend.
