Chance Encounter
Well at least they weren't always locked into some stupid mission. How he hated this Suicide Squad stuff, even worse knowing that he couldn't get out of it as long as they had Terry. But they let him go back to Boston occasionally to deal with his business, which was still struggling but still alive. He was outside at the moment, walking down the streets in a slightly better mood than usual. Anything that got him out of the government's grips made him feel better.

Somebody familiar to Jerry just so happened to be in Boston for an event. At the moment she was free, and sitting down at a cafe that Jerry conveniently walked by. She noticed.

Endgame.

"Jerry."

Jerry nearly froze on the spot. Nearly. Instead he took the newspaper under his arm, opened it and pretended to read while walking.

Why oh why her of all people?!

"That's not going to work, Jerry," she said as she stood up and walked over to him. A few heads turned when she made her presence known.

"Yeah well..." So much for trying. What was she even doing here? He glared at anyone looking their way. "What are you doing here exactly?"

Seriously, was she following him now? No, that'd be stupid of her and a waste of time. But ugh, his luck was just the worst.

"Work," she said. "Not that you'd know much about that."

Eyes were still trained on her, and now on the pair of them. But Nala was trying her hardest to ignore the audience.

More glaring was directed at the audience and Jerry looked uncomfortable with all this. "Your sort of work? No."

Great, he didn't need this, not in the middle of the street, and not with an audience. If she wanted to talk then fine. He grabbed her wrist and started walking ahead. "Fine, let's do this somewhere else okay?" He half-muttered it as he tried to lead her somewhere with less of an annoying, staring, audience.

She could've dropped him right then and there for just grabbing her hand and pulling her along with him. And yet she didn't, for some reason she didn't really understand yet. Instead, she hesitated to say anything for a moment before a quick recovery with an eye-roll and a sigh.

"Fine," she agreed. In the back of her mind, she wondered who was taking pictures of this. And then she wondered why she even cared.

She could've easily done so, and he knew that. But he for didn't think she would exactly, might've made too much of a scene. And there were enough stares and potentially cameras around anyway. Though none of that was a guarantee that she wouldn't have done so anyway, he'd just been too preoccupied about getting out of there to consider the possibility too much.

He tried leading her around the corner to a smaller coffee place, and grabbing a corner seat inside. Because he figured there'd be less attention that way at least.

He tried and succeeded. If only he'd pulled out her seat for her, but oh well. Nala sat herself down in her seat and crossed one leg over the other.

"Alright," she said. "We're somewhere else."

It would've been nice, but then again, he wasn't often accused of being nice.

"Yeah," he frowned as he took his own seat. "So what did you bother me for?"

She chuckled.

"Because I saw you," she said plainly. That was literally it.

Oh great. That's it? Damn his shit luck like usual. Now he was stuck in a coffee shop with her.

"So? Not like we're friends," he grumbled. He then frowned at her again. "I'm not here for anything you need to worry about logging hours for you side job for." Well what, he just wanted to make it clear that he wasn't planning on any theft this trip if she was worried about that.

"Well that's good, I guess," she said with a sigh. "You know, we could be friends."

If he stopped stealing and being a criminal and all that.

"Well there's a few things in the way of that," he pointed out with his trademark humourless smirk.

And she responded with her trademark 'no shit' face (literally the icon).

"I should smack you."

"Everybody already recognizes me," she replied, and then smirked. "But do you really want to be in the headlines with a red hand print on your precious face?"

She was teasing a little bit.

That got the smirk back. "Nice to know you think it precious. And I'm just some unknown, they'll read the paper and think 'lucky guy with some hot model long enough to get slapped'." Actually being in the news would piss him off even if he was unknown. He didn't need to become known.

"So I'm a hot model and you're a lucky guy? I'm flattered, Jerry."

He shrugged. "What? Do they hire ugly models now? Just saying what our audience from before will think if they see me walk by with a nice handprint."

She shrugged. That was about as much of a compliment as she'd ever get from him.

"At least it'll look nice on you," she said as she got up from her seat. "I've got work to do, Jerry. Try to stay out of trouble, please. Or at least don't let me catch you."

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"Oh so you can say something nice," he said with that humourless smirk again. "You don't catch me anywhere near as often as you like." Though he had a whole extra bucket of troubles to deal with with this whole Suicide Squad stuff. At least she didn't know about that.

"Good," she said. "Let's keep it that way."
