MMMM, Ev, these scones are SO GOOD, my fingers are all sticky, it's like I have a sticking charm on my fingers! That tastes like cinnamon. Why can't spells have tastes, I don't get that, like they have words? But why can't we taste what Expelliarmus is? I would think it is bitter, like cardamon. And there is a lovely licorice taste to Alohamora, I am sure. I wonder if you cast a spell at something, if you licked it, you would find out? Though if you hexed someone and then you licked them, that would be a bit rude unless you ask, I'm sure, and maybe the taste of the person would influence the taste of the spell since I firmly believe that all people have different tastes too. I bet he tastes like dreams and perfect and orange sherbert.

I wonder what clouds taste like. I'd hope cotton candy, but I bet it's something depressing like chalk dust.

Are you high or is it a natural state of being?

This is just natural! Why?

Have you ever put your tongue on metal when it's cold? How that tastes? I think that's what Imperius tastes like.

Because you sound like you're high all the time. You might want to get that checked out.

I don't think Imperius tastes like anything because it's a spell, not something tangible.

But I like being this way, which is the only way I feel like I should be. Perhaps you need a perk up pop, then you can see how much fun it is to insist on seeing excitement in every centimetre.

I wonder what a hinkypuff tastes like. Shouldn't there be a whole market for magical creature meats, like how muggles have exotic meats like ostrich and bison and bunny.

What? What spells taste like? I think that's a lovely thing to contemplate. I cast a charm on my hair and I tried to taste it, but it just tasted like hair, which I am sure was a biased reading, somehow. Maybe I should hex a chair, that would be a solid, neutral subject to taste. Hex different areas?

I wonder if spells have colours, too.

I didn't hear my hair complaining, though! My tongue is a valid exploratory object for research, and without complaint, it forges on in the quest for taste in spells.

That's what we need, to charm inanimate objects to speak to us, why can't they? I mean, according to Plato, they all have ideals in the world that they aspire to be, so why can't they have thoughts to correspond to their existence? It's like how Muggles have devises to tell them what their dogs or babies are saying, we really need to be able to communicate with the things in the world that have no voice! We're wizards, this can't be impossible for us!

And then we can work on growing bananas here in England, since I have yet to see a banana tree here.

I am? But it's just another sensory object! I mean, think about it: we always think with eyes, ears, nose, touch--taste is so neglected! As wizards, wouldn't our powers expand the more that we tap into our senses? Especially the Inner Eye. As a seer, it's so essential for me to have all of my six senses equally strong, and I think all of us should too!

Don't you think Professor Trelawney needs more poufs in her room for sitting? I think they are so much more comfortable than the couches.

Lisa: poufs are what you sit on, they have nothing to do with the inner eye!

Speaking of: on Thursday, when you are told? Just in advance--I'm sorry that you heard that on your birthday.

You know what our common room needs? Things that rotate, like the stairs. Wouldn't that be amazing, if where you sit moved on a random basis? Think about how much more social you would be with your housemates if you got to interact with different people every thirty minutes because where you sat changed up! Oh! I should mention this to Professor Sprout!

Luna? Luna believes in things that aren't real. There are so many incredible things that are real here in the wizarding world, why wouldn't you want to explore it to its full! I don't understand that. No, but everyone always seems to ask that--maybe because we both have blonde hair, I suppose, but I dye mine so much that I don't really think that should be much matter. Now my hair is green, so that I can show solidarity with Ev's owl, Eleanor, we're green together, like shamrocks! I think I should carry Eleanor with me to classes, I think that we'd make a bang up team.

Don't you think that a shamrock would boost Felix Felicis? Professor Slughorn is about to make a new batch, and I am trying to convince him to let me try a variation. It's like variations on mixing, though once an experiment of mine singed off my eyebrows, but that was okay, it was in the name of experimentation.

I wish there was a potion made of snow.

Harry Potter! Why yes, yes I'd imagine that we all do. At the very least, we all taste like chicken when cooked, or so says the urban legend, but I think we all have individual tastes as well. I would hope that one of my tastes would like like violets, which I love to sprinkle sugar over and eat as a little treat. Flowers are edible you know, but more than that, flowers have so many incredible healing powers! You should really try them, since I know that you haven't been well for a while. I think it might help if more people thanked you, has anyone thanked you yet today for saving us from Voldemort?

Had your father ever been to Thailand?

Spells having taste?

(Reply to this)(Thread)

[info]kennicot

Well why not! Everything has a taste in this world, even the wind, so why not spells! Or thoughts? Or emotions? I hope that love tastes like spun sugar and wonder and a little bit of tart, like a starfruit, because sometimes love hurts which I know very well. The question is, how do we find what the tastes are? And do tastes blend as they come into contact with objects with distinct tastes? Like a table charmed to dance: you have the taste of the table plus the taste of the charm, so that would create a combined taste that I'm sure would be biased and not representative of the elements individually.

I very much want to go to Brazil. Starfruits grow on trees like apples there.

Do you talk in your sleep as well, Kennicot?

What the fuck hell is a starfruit?

Wait; forget I even asked.

Please go die just shut up. Please.

But--you asked questions, I feel obligated to answer first. A starfruit, Averrhoa carambola, is the fruit of the carambola tree, which grows in SouthEast Asia and South America. The fruit is actually star shaped! And you can make wine from it or pickle it? But I like to eat it as it is, when we can find it at the farmer's market, that is, which is hard, even in London. It tastes like a combination of apple, pineapple, and kiwi, and if that isn't enough to make your mouth water, the fact that it looks so pretty makes it all the more appetising!

And...I don't know if I talk in my sleep. You'd have to ask my dorm mates, probably Melanie, I think she is the most lovely of all.

...it's not polite to say "shut up." A simple "please stop" would suffice and lack the meanness, Tracey.

I think I would use accio all day long. Especially Accio Quill so if I absently chew on it, it will be so delicious. I do think better sometimes when I chew on my quill, which I know is disgusting, and you should throw things at me when you see me doing it. But throw things that are soft, like marshmallows and poufs!

What do you suppose colours taste like? I would like to think that red tastes like peppers and hot and dragon, though I don't know what dragons taste like, but I figure they taste like chicken, but meaner.

Scones are brilliant. Especially with marmalade. My mum makes brilliant scones and marmalade for that matter.

I dunno 'bout tasting spells. I imagine some would taste quite rancid.

You need to have some of Ev's cooking: Evelyn cooks the way that some opera singers sing, beautiful and large and huge and brilliant and flying, filling up every inch of everything with wonderful. She cooks like that! How incredible is it to have a gift that allows you to be so big and bold and unspeakably, immeasurably amazing? Eating her scones is like tasting a song.

Why can't we charm ourselves talents? I wish we could, I wish we could charm the ability to be the best of anything in the whole world. I would want to charm myself into being the best rock climber, I've always wanted to get to the top of Mount Everest, they have shrubs up there that you can grind into a paste and put on your fingers and they warm them up like mittens. Of course, it's sad, as wizards we really don't need mittens, since we have warming spells. I love winter, I think its just quite romantic to wear mittens, especially when they are knitted for you by someone that you love.

Well then he knows what I'm talking about! I'm sure his mum's food is nice, but it's more like something that you hum and sticks in your head all day. I much rather have an opera, I love the costumes. The best are when they wear the big Viking hats, I've always wanted one. I think my antlers are pretty close though, don't you?

It's cold, but we have warming charms! What if you cast a charm of a protective bubble? And you got on a broom and just flew to the top! And you could just fly around all of the mountains, it would be so clear and beautiful up there, don't you think?

I've always wanted to go to China. I want to see their dragons, I heard they have red ones, which is just divine, to have dragons the colour of cooked lobster.
