Gathering of Powers
Julian Howard has made the phone calls requesting the company of both Emma Frost and Roberto DaCosta in New Jersey tonight convenience to discuss matters of mutual importance. The meeting place is a renovated club he's just purchased that will reopen in four weeks under the name of The Violet Room. After long months of waiting, watching and planning, Julian is ready to begin moving in on his primary goal. All that was necessary now was to gather the necessary support to secure his victory. Every last one of the people he is dealing with is dangerous and a manipulator of the highest order. They've all been at this since before he was born, and continued up this point. Besides his own intellect, prestige and power, the only thing Julian can really count on is that he was taught this game of thrones by the only person with more experience than all of them.

The food and drink is hot and waiting, though he doubts they'll partake; still, effort must be made. When Emma and Roberto arrive, they are ushered in through what will be the V.I.P entrance and escorted across the expansive dance floor to. The meeting is here, rather than at X-Factor Tower or even the Popular Outcast because Julian wants to keep this business separate and secret from his other dealings. As they Julian rises and moves offers and comes around the table.

"Miss Frost, Mister DaCosta, thank you for taking the time to meet with me. Food and drink are available if you like, and I apologize for asking you to come out of town, but I'd like to keep prying eyes out of our business, so to speak. Please, take a moment for refreshment and have a seat. I'll begin when you're both ready." Julian says, gesturing at the onyx marble desk at the head of the room. A chair is provided for each of them, though Julian pulls one of them back a little further for Emma.

Secret meetings in unusual locations. Covert phone calls. Gatherings of specific players. Emma knew what was afoot before she even made the drive to New Jersey. This was a game she knew well, one that she and Sebastian Shaw had played ages before. It was interesting to her, however, that the card-holder this time was Julian Howard.

Emma sat in the chair provided her, but declined food or drink. One couldn't be too careful.

"It would seem your little business venture is much classier than it's location, Mr. Howard. Do you intend to clean up all of New Jersey or just this little sliver?"

She didn't expect him to respond. It was just a backhanded compliment.

"Glad you asked, Miss Frost. I've asked the two of you here tonight regarding matters of the Hellfire Club." Julian says.

"The two of you have been going around with Sebastian Shaw for years now, but he's a cagey old bastard. He's got allies inside and outside the Hellfire Club who help him maintain his power. He's even been willing to kill his own son to get that power and keep it.

The two of you have been able to moderate him for some time, but between him and Regan Wyngarde, it's got to be hard to keep that going. The reason I've asked you here tonight is to propose an alliance.

Sebastian Shaw and his lackeys must be removed from power, and I have a plan to do this. I'll be taking some substantial risks, and I want rewards equal to those risks. But if you side with me, the three of us can drive the future of the Hellfire Club and never deal with Sebastian Shaw again." Julian says.

"Are either of you interested in this undertaking?"

Emma considered the young man's words and found herself smiling. Ah. This was something of a flashback to when it was she and Shaw concocting overthrow and power plays. Of course when they did it, there was blood and plenty of it and the types of allies and strengths that surrounded the old Inner Circle were vastly different. Shaw--and to some extent herself--had built an empire of deceit so tight that it was an armor of strength.

But Shaw had certainly outlived his usefulness. Cagey old bastard was but one way to describe her former lover and current enemy.

"Regan Wyngarde is a low-class twit who desperately deserves a spanking of the most humiliating order and Shaw could certainly do with...losing his crown. I'd like to hear a bit more of your plan."

Roberto nods, mostly letting Emma do the speaking. He's been backing her for years now, partly because she's been the better option time and time again, and they've both risked losing their power bases to Shaw several times - and have saved each other about as many times. There's also the simple fact that, as comfortable as he's gotten in the halls of power, she's simply better at this.

"You understand that we're going to need to be convinced of the effectiveness of your plan to put the resources you'd need behind it? I'm interested... but Shaw didn't gain his position for no reason."

"You're exactly right, Mr. DaCosta, and I understand your wanting to know what you're getting into before committing. So, I'll elaborate on my plan." Julian says, preparing himself to deliver.

"Sebastian Shaw has managed to get and stay at the top for a lot of reasons. But mostly, he's built a power base that he feels will allow him to do what he wants and get away with it. With only the two of to oppose him most times, he's certain that everyone else will vote in his favor.

Then he rewards said people for their loyalty, or at least makes them feel like their being rewarded. And he points to anyone outside his circle, being the two of you, as a reminder of those who stand against him.

My plan is to erode that power base. First, we would attack Shaw Industries, buying out as much stock as possible to achieve a take over. Of course, we'd use a shell company or two, to give Shaw a reason to look elsewhere, and I've got one ready to go on demand. Meanwhile, we also bankrupt Regan Wyngarde. Without his Queen to back him, he loses his most valuable ally.

Louis Shaw's fortunes are tied to Sebastian's. From what I understand, he betrayed his father to side with Sebastian, so when Shaw falls, Louis will have to work with whoever is in power to stay afloat. However, there is one more person that needs to be dealt with, in your own ranks." Julian says, going over the steps in his mind, as he speaks.

"Benedict Kine. He's the White Rook at Sebastian's behest, and that gives him some protection from any attempt you might make to oust him. As long as Shaw can count on his support, the two of you will be neutralized in any struggle against him. He'll likely sell one or both of you out as well, if he thought it meant moving up the ranks.

What I want to do is vote Shaw and Wyngarde out at the next meeting. Kine will be removed, and we'll need to secure at least two other votes. I have one person in mind, but Madame Viper is the other. If we can do this, I see a shift in power coming soon.

Power than shifts to our side." Julian says, looking at each of them in turn.

"Its an interesting proposal. I do have the international ties to buy a significant number of shares of Shaw's publically held, and thus more liquidatable resources. He has a lot of his money tied up in investments and the sentinel program... not that he thinks any of us know about that. If we move quickly, he won't have the liquid resources to keep up. But, a question, if I may. You say /our/ side, not your side. I trust that means that if we voted you in, you would be amenable to backing some of our proposals as well, provided both Miss Frost and I agreed on them?"

"Well, it would be rather rude of me to ask for your aid and offer nothing in return. That's how Shaw works; he tells you why you should do something for him, and infers that he might do something for you at a later date. If you'll vote me in, yes, I would be willing to work with you both on proposals you're interested in. I also have some ideas that you both may find intriguing." Julian offers.

"However, I'd like to be clear on something, in case I haven't already been: if I remove Shaw and his cronies, I will receive backing from both of you to become King of the Hellfire Club. I also will choose the next Black Queen. If we can work together, we'll have a strong bloc for advancing our agenda within the Club. And once we have Shaw Industries and its resources, I daresay the sky is the limit.

I have plans and goals that I think will intersect with those you two possess. However, Shaw becomes more firmly entrenched each day, and soon, he might decide to remove the rest of his opposition and elevate his own cronies in order to have complete control.

This isn't a viable future for any of us." Julian finishes.

"This is quite the tidy plan you have put together, Mr. Howard. And it does seem to be very solid and well-thought. You've clearly done some homework on this and I admit that it is refreshing to see someone as power-hungry as yourself come in having an actual plan rather than a lofty idea. Kudos. That being said..." Emma arched a brow. "I make no decision with such serious repercussions without a bit of thought. I need to weigh my own options, look at my own assets. I am very inclined to side with you, Mr. Howard, but I will give you my firm answer two days hence."

"I had come to a decision when I walked in. Emma is, I am willing to admit, better at this than I am. We've both survived in the hellfire club to date by backing one another, even when its difficult. I reward that kind of loyalty... if she elects to back you, I will as well. I will fly to Brazil tomorrow to make sure I have enough liquid assets ready if we go forward with this, and to keep myself away from Shaw's spies. Emma... when we have a decision, call me."

"I understand if you two need to be sure before going forward, so I'll talk to you both in two days. If we go forward together, I'll let you both know what I'll need for you for the plan to come together.

We'll all need to be present at the gathering for the final stroke against Sebastian, but with any luck, he won't be there to stop any of it. I won't keep the two of you any longer. I'm sure you both have things to put together before we meet again." Julian smiles.
