Happy Birthday Mel! (backdated to Aug 1)(open)
Alex had been spending a lot of time with Sam, but he didn't forget about his number one priority. Mel. August 1st was her birthday and this year Alex had been planning it for a very long time. There was a lot of work and a lot of string pulling, but in the end he had arranged something Mel would love.

He had an envelope with a card inside. Inside the card was her gift.

Whistling happily, he went to find his girlfriend.

Jordan couldn't come up with a way to top last year's gift, so he settled this year, a bit. A donation to the charity whose dinner they were sent to last year in her name, and plane tickets, 4-star hotel and restaurant reservations made - for an all expenses vacation for two in Toronto.

Mel stepped out of a door when he came by. "Hihi." She canted her head a little. "What's in the envelope?

"A gift for the prettiest girl in the universe for her birthday," he said with a big goofy grin. He offered her the envelope.

"You deserve the best," he said as he hugged her. Inside the envelope is an invitation to a charity event hosted by Frida Lyngstad for rainforest conservation.

The smile she had on her face and the excitement in her voice made Alex's year. He'd remember those two things and this moment for the rest of his life.
