One of the private lines rang at the consulate. Giovanna answered the phone.

"Genoshan Consulate. Giovanna Bennet speaking. How can I help you?"

Lottie gave a great sigh of relief, slumping a little against the counter of the diner she was calling from. "Gio...it's Charlotte...Charlotte Lensherr," as if there'd be confusion. "I think I may need a little help..." (Reply to this)(Thread)

Really, like there was some other Charlotte that mattered. "Okay, stay calm. Breathe. Where are you, and are you injured?" (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"No..no no, I'm okay...at least..I'm not hurt." Deep breath Charlotte. Make sense. "I'm in Los Angeles. I think. I'm pretty sure at least." (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"How... never mind, we'll deal with that later. Angelo and I are going to come for you and bring you to Andrew. Is there anything we need to know immediately? Can you find out what street you're on?" (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"I'm at a diner. It's near the water." So helpful. And descriptive too. "Listen...Bring Angelo and Andrew..but don't tell anyone else yet, okay? Not even my dad. ESPCIALLY not my dad..." (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

burnwithlight 2011-09-14 10:58 pm UTC (link)
"We are certainly not telling your father before we have you somewhere safe. If he panics, he might send my father, and you know what a disaster Father in America would be. But I need more information, Charlotte. Get the name of the diner. I have to tell Angelo where to go." (Reply to this)(Parent)

lottelensherre 2011-09-14 11:01 pm UTC (link)
"Just a sec.." There was a long pause where the sounds of the diner became clearer as she put the phone down, and then was back. "I'm at Marlin's at the Santa Barbara Marina in Santa Barbara, home of the 3 pound fish burger, eat it in 10 minutes and it's free..." (Reply to this)(Thread)

burnwithlight 2011-09-14 11:02 pm UTC (link)
If Gio wasn't worried, she would laugh. "Okay, we'll be there within ten minutes. I'll see you then." She hangs up. And goes looking for her beloved and her brother. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Ten minutes...MORE then enough time to eat a 3 pound fish burger apparently....she had to, since she didn't have the money to pay for it. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Andrew is, as ever, really very easy to find. He's settled in, looking through work papers, not even noticing Gio at first. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

burnwithlight 2011-09-14 11:19 pm UTC (link)
"Mon ange," she says hand touching his shoulder. But her face is serious, not romantic. "We have a situation." (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

assaultnbattery 2011-09-14 11:21 pm UTC (link)
He glances up at that, quickly putting the papers away. She wouldn't use that tone if it weren't serious. "Go on." (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

burnwithlight 2011-09-14 11:25 pm UTC (link)
"Your aunt Charlotte just called from Santa Barbara, California. Your grandfather doesn't know where she is. To avoid the disaster which would be Father in California, we should keep it that way until we have her here safe. I told her I'd get Angelo and be there in seven minutes. I've got him a map with the address pinpointed." (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

He nods, starting to get things together. "Of course, and good thinking. Be sure to send Angelo with some money, in case she's incurred any immediate debts. Make sure tea and coffee are being made... and tell Angelo we'll be dining here tonight, and need seafood made... significant portions, but something familiar to Genoshans... she's going to be in enough distress, having tea and something familiar might help." he replies, thinking as he talks.

"I'll make sure everything is cleared for the rest of the day, and be ready to receive her."

Angelo was contacted in short order, and nearly flew into a panic. Miss Charlotte, a daughter of Magneto(!) was wandering around a major American city without protection! Personal standards and a sense of duty prevented him from giving in to that panic.

Immediately, multi-tasking ensued. Researching a shopping list for dinner took secondary concern to confirming a safe landing zone. It wasn't like going to a safehouse back home, or returning to the Consulate, he had to have as absolutely clear an image of his destination as possible, and it was new to him. Satellite imagery, street views, and publicly available city records and, in this case, restaurant listings, were a godsend. He also retrieved a roll of unmarked bills, tucking them into a pocket.

Los Angeles was far enough away that he wouldn't be able to turn on the proverbial dime and jump back, but it would be less severe than the New York to Genosha trip. Once he's confident in his preparations, and having been doubly sure to hydrate and nourish himself, he joins his sister.

"Everything is ready." He extended a hand.

"Remember, Santa Barbara, right outside the restaurant." She takes his hand. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

It wasn't precisely a den of danger...Unless you counted the fish burgers. Really, who could eat 3 pounds of that? Not Charlotte, that was for damn sure if the slightly green tinge was any indication.

Besides, her mind was focused on bigger problems. Like exactly how she'd keep her father's people from sending her right back home at the first snap of his fingers. Then again...he probably wouldn't want her back home, would he? She knew her father reasonably well, and whatever affection they had...this would come as a relief, wouldnt it? She kept telling herself that at least. This took care of a glaring problem that was growing larger and larger as time ticked by - it was an oppertunity to let it slide under the radar before having to address the problem, hopefully.

Either way, her first expierances in America and with American food...? So far, not a promising country or cuisine as her stomach rebelled against the highly-processed, completely saturated lunch.

When they materialize outside the restaurant, Gio hurries right in. "Charlotte." (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

lottelensherre 2011-09-15 04:35 pm UTC (link)
Charlotte looked up, a little suprised at the promptness, even though they had told her how long it'd be, the worried countenance driving home just how dangerous what she'd done had been. "Gio..you didn't call anyone did you..?" Anyone really meaning only one person, the big pubah person. (Reply to this)(Parent)

Angelo arrives several yards away from the diner, a spot he had deemed least susceptible to colliding with anything or anyone. As soon as the momentary disorientation of the long jump passes, and he gets his bearings, he makes a beeline for the diner.

Good heavens, a diner.

This was not the sort of peril he dreamed of rescuing a fair damsel from, but it was valid peril.

"No, Charlotte. We're bringing you back to our place before we decide anything more." Gio's eyes narrow. "Are you sick? Angelo, how long do you need until we go back?" (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"Not yet I'm not..." She eyed the fish burger like it had caused a great offense. "Please...take your time, I'm sorry I had to interupt you in the middle of your day" (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"Yeah... Fish in America... you've got to be careful where you get it; it's not like at home. And nonsense. You're family, of course Andrew wanted us to get you immediately." (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"was he mad..?" Because this whole thing had really been an attempt to make life easier on her family, not harder. "I didn't mean to cause any trouble.. But I don't know what else I could of done." (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)
