Test Scene: Some family time
Well, this was quite a view! New york city is so very very different from San Fransisco. in the times he went to the city streets above the Atlas Sanctuary, it was often with Uncle Bob under the cover of his projections and often for small things. A visit to the diner Dad loved so much. A visit with the sea life with Mother. Hell, sometimes Uncle Ken snuck him up for some late night shenanigans that he was never supposed to mention to Dad and Mother and they always got caught for it. But now here he was, on his own.

It was really really weird to him. he'd walk by, giving smiles to people, and not getting them in return. It's kinda weird, but like Aunt Venus said the love is there in the people, you just have to know how to reach it. he doesn't have a magic song like her, but Derek is going to keep smiling and looking around Grand Central Station while he waits for his cousin-wait. nephew. His two years older than him nephew.

Mac walked into the station, keeping a good eye out.

...there. He hurried over grinning. "Hey, Highness!" Mac's propensity to make polite court terms sound exactly like 'Dude' was in full swing.

"Mac!"

Well, this was a happy time! This was great! There he was, his cousin! Sure, it had been quite a while since Derek actually got to see him (well, not really, but when you're the only one your age any amount of time gone between seeing peers is a long time) so he made sure he showed it!

He walks right over to his cousin and gives him a big ol' hug!

"Wumph!" Now this was the kind of bro-hug a guy didn't get in the surface often! "Good to see you, too. You eaten?"

"No, I hadn't. I know San Fran way too well for my own good. I don't know much about anything else," Derek responded once he let go of the hug. He was eager to go out and see the sights!

"Then let's get some pizza. Trust me, San Fran's great for a lot of things, but they can't match us on pizza. Neither can anywhere else, no matter what people from Chicago or Skrullos tell you."

Derek thinks for a moment.

"I've had Chicago style, but that was at a restaurant in San Fran, and I've never been to Skrullos so I really can't say if it's good or not. Still, NY is known for the pizza. Lead on, Nephew!"

And Mac will take his uncle to one of the finest pizza places he knows, one of the ones he goes to with Andrea.

The smell of the place is what gets him first. It smells amazing.

"Oooh. This smells awesome. Is this the best in New York or your favorite?"

"Dichotomy is what you're looking for," Derek says, missing the second part for a bit before it clicks in his head. In an instant he smiles big before unleashing a torrent of questions.

"You have a girlfriend, Mac? Oh awesome! What's she like? What's her name? How long have you two known each other? Is she cool? Does she have any hobbies?"

"She's beautiful and a genius and a Mets-Knicks fan, her name is Andrea, We've known each other 10 months, she's Awesome, and she studies carnivorous plants and works with the Fantastic Four when she's not doing college stuff."

"Pfft. It's all about the SF Giants and the Warriors. And she works with the Fantastic Four? Cool! is she an analyst of some kind or is she..."

Something clicks from what was just said and his own recent studies. Awesome, she was, with the extra emphasis, and her name was Andrea.

"You mean -"

Oh wait, IDs and whatnot.

"...Awesome Andrea of the Four?"

"Wow. Look at my nephew go!" Derek said aloud, elbowing his cousin at the news.

"Good on you. You're dating someone that important in the organization. That's pretty cool. It's weird to think my itty bitty cousin is dating, let alone Andrea."

Is there ribbing? Oh yes there is.

Mac faux-pouts. "You see, this is where you're lucky you outrank me, so I don't kick your ass. 'Cause don't think the fact that you could kick my ass right back deters me in the slightest."

Derek snickers at that.

"No, no. I don't feel like breaking the Avengers stuff tomorrow. I'd rather take in the sights and ejoy the terrible wonderful food. Maybe the day after tomorrow. And maybe add a bit more to your insurance plan. It's been a while since I last let loose."

"Mother and Dad are doing fine. Before I left they were planning a big something against Temujin in Taiwan somewhere," Derek said, not quite as happy as he was a second ago.

Temujin always turned his mood sour.

"We'll get you an Abita, then." Yes, Mac drinks microbrewery root beer. Do not question him. An Auxillary corpsman is allowed to indulge himself a little. "And a carnivore special." The orders placed, he looks to his uncle. "So what do you want to see first tomorrow?"
